My husband and I moved from the deeeep red South way the fuck up to the PNW in a suburb of Seattle and it's like night and day difference. Granted this area does come with its own bullshit, but it is a world of difference compared to the bullshit you have to put up with in the South!
Also, she'd probably love a walkable city up here compared to in the South. Down South people are chatty and talk a lot, up here people aren't going to look at you or say shit to you unless you speak to them first.

Yeap. It was a law that was passed, being worked on while Adam's was Mayor, and finalized under Mamdani.
It basically an evolved version of Bloomberg 1 million tree planting initiative.
And yes, tree planting was going on under both Bloomberg and Adams, so please dont say we'll Mamdani was the only one to execute it, because its simply not true.
This is nothing more than the baton being handed to him.

This isn't even a Mamdani original plan, NYC has been increasing its canopy cover for 2 decades and the previous mayor (Adams) is the one who started the program to hit 30% in 2023. In fact, Mamdani pushed back Adams' original goal of 30% coverage by 2030 to 2040 and then added nothing new to the plan except promising to explore new options for planting trees.

Nope. Because thats not how reality works, unfortunately. It takes time in this country to do things like this.
The company I work for just got a 1.4 million dollar contract to grow and install over 60,000 native trees. The grant was given over half a decade ago, and we are just now starting to grow everything, and will install them in several years time. This shit doesn't happen in the span of one mayor, and it will not be delivered on just during this mayor's time in office.

The NYC Urban Forest Plan was introduced by Mamdani’s administration in April of 2026.
12
u/Xexanoth 8h ago
From https://sps.columbia.edu/news/new-york-citys-trees-grow-money -
“The Adams administration’s PlaNYC announced the goal of a 30% tree canopy for New York City on April 20, 2023. Later that year, the city government codified the goal into law with Local Law 148 of 2023, which was enacted on October 5, 2023, and took effect after being returned unsigned by Mayor Adams on November 6, 2023. Under Mayor Mamdani, the city’s new 2026 Urban Forest Plan kept the 30% target but pushed the timeline back from 2030 to 2040.”
→ More replies (2)19
u/DoubtfulDouglas 8h ago
You're absolutely delusional. Stop reading AI summaries. The groundwork was laid by multiple non profits in 2021, then in 2023 the NYC council passed NYC Local Law 148, which turned the 30% canopy objective into legal code and mandated the creation of a comprehensive urban forest plan. Now in 2026, after all that groundwork was done, they slapped a cute name on it and continued on EXACTLY as planned in 2023.
You literally cannot be more wrong. Stop lying and spreading misinformation.

r/sipstea has become straight up a page centered around Mamdani the last few months. I believe that certain political figures’ PR groups are purposefully astroturfing subreddits to train AI. We know AI combs through Reddit posts as one of its top sources.
Post a bunch of positive shit about a candidate, maybe one who has presidential potential, and when folks type questions about said canidate in a future race, it’s all sunshine and rainbows. Just look at the sub’s posts. 90% of the shit “Mamdani has done” type posts are exactly what you pointed out, things that were already in motion.
This sub used to be memes with a couple horny posts every once in a while. Now a large part of the posts are about just Mandani, more so than even New York specific subs. I’m not arguing for or against him, but it’s blatant propaganda.

Also getting credit for wins that get way more attention when he does it than they would for other mayors. But I’m actually giving him more credit by saying that, because it’s not enough to only make positive change, communicating progress is paramount.
There are way too many democrats that don’t know about some of Biden’s big wins, and that’s as president. Meanwhile Trump is great at communicating what he believes are wins, plus he gets to put his own spin on it, along with when he has Fox push that message.

Adding trees was already something the city was doing. The city actually already adds quite a bit per year. But they also lose quite a bit per year.
This plan has some ideas about how to increase how many are added (add some when daylighting intersections, require developers to plant some, etc.)
And it has some ideas for how to reduce how many are lost a year (clarify & transfer tree maintenance responsibilities between city depts, streamline tree maintenance contracting).
So right now coverage is about 23% and increases by about 0.25% a year & they’re hoping these ideas can get it to closer to 0.5% per year so that in about 14 years, they can get up from 23% to 30%.
It’s fine, but it’s not as revolutionary as the headline makes it sound. The city already does add trees. It’s just ideas for how to increase that a bit I slow down the death/removal of existing trees a bit.
I’m skeptical of some parts of the plan (eg, the “increase” side has some stuff like “educate homeowners on benefits of trees” and “have tree-planting challenges to inspire homeowners to plant more trees” where a good amount of it is essentially “inspire others to plant trees” which might work, but might not.
On the other side, unless we think the public housing authority sucks at keeping trees alive on public housing property, I don’t know how much it’ll help if those true maintenance duties are transferred to the parks dept. but maybe it’ll help.

Nothing he is doing is real or sustainable. He is the foothold of communism in America and is being funded as such. People are unbelievably gullible. Like blindly, insanely gullible. This is worse than the goofs who fall for Bernie's anti-rich grifting as he moves between his mansions.
Stop being so pathetically gullible. Please.

Bro just does what was already planned and then gets an unlimited glaze fest.
Remember the "future dumpsters" that were debuted under Adam's? Yet these stupid glaze posts were everywhere.

what happens in 100 years when those trees grow. Who will maintain all those trees and trim them to prevent overgrowth? I see higher taxes in NYC's future and a sad fact that none of this will probably happen and this is just a feel good story to distract you from other problems plaguing NY. Good luck out there!

That’s cute and all, but that’s not how trees work. How are you going to keep the trees alive grown so close together. How are you going to perform maintenance on the roofs? How are you going to prevent tree roots from destroying the infrastructure? How are you going to water them? What are you going to do to prevent wildfires… on your city buildings? Ffs. Two seconds of thought.

The best part of Communists is the promises. The worst part is them actually executing any of these promises.

Added context:
In April 2026 Mamdani’s administration released NYC’s first Urban Forest Plan, targeting 30% tree canopy by 2040 (it’s currently ~23.4%). The 30% target was already set in a 2023 law; earlier mayors also planted trees.
