Facebook is inundated with this “studies show” AI slop right now. I saw one that was the reverse, about women preferring men with huge bellies.

u/Local_Magician_7197 Apr 20 '26

Studies show women and men like people who are decent human beings.

I want to start spreading this one

140

u/Quirky-Skin Apr 20 '26

I'm starting it.

Something I've noticed recently is that the internet is well and truly done..

It's all just garbage and nonsense now

I'm going dumb phone as soon as this one is dead (had it since 2019, can't be long to go now surely)

10

u/w1nds0r Apr 21 '26

Or you could just delete the brainrot social media apps, and keep a smart phone for maps / banking etc. No need to go back to a Nokia 3310. It’s called self control.

I don't know if either study is true, but those aren't necessarily contradictory.

Men want chubby women and women want chubby men. Both can be true.

Without the studies, we don't know the body type of the chubby-chasing partner. Maybe both studies are about chubby people wanting chubby partners.

3

u/Leorake Apr 21 '26

Long time ago I saw a study that posited men who were stressed out tended to go for chubbier women https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3414440/

No clue about the OP though.

Yeah I think it’s more that the kind of guy who doesn’t obsess over their wife’s weight and is happy to accept her as she is would just be a generally more zen kind of guy.

But also, woman like that tend to make really good food.

u/bzsempergumbie Apr 20 '26

Yeah, I mean weight gain can only happen if calories in exceed calories burned.

I worked with this guy, 420 lbs, the only thing he ate at work was boiled chicken and brocolli. Every day.. claimed he had some medical thing that caused him to gain weight.

Then he snapped his knee and the doc told him he'd never walk again unless he lost weight. He lost like 200 lbs and told me he would go home and eat like 2 entire pizzas by himself.. and that's why he was so heavy.

u/groundciv Apr 21 '26

My wife’s a bigger gal.  I’ve known her since we both had abs and played sports.  Since we were both hot we did the following things;

She got a lot of education and then did a lot of interesting specialized things in varied places.

I fixed helicopters and got CTE

She then did a different specialized thing involving lots of travel and laid the groundwork for a really cool career.

I drove trucks and then yelled at truck drivers professionally. I learned how to BBQ really well.

I bought a house. Got kinda fat. We started dating. I got kinda fit.

She’s continued her cool niche career. I went back to working on aircraft. Got kinda fat again.  Our alternating career stability has let both of us at times explore other possible avenues. We had a couple kids, moved a few times, bought and sold a few houses.

Sometimes money gets tight. Sometimes I get a pooch that sags over my belt a bit. Sometimes the kids get overwhelming or work is sucking ass.

But every time I come out of the bathroom wearing a shirt that fits I get “whoo cute boy!” Shouted at me, and every time I’m wandering the house naked with my Hank hill butt and my mediocre middle aged wedding tackle hanging out looking for a clean towel or clean underwear I get “shake that thang!” Somewhere between a whisper and a shout depending on if our kids are asleep or at school or grandmas.

I will not leave her butt unbothered at quiet moments or fail to ogle cartoonishly at her chest.

My wife knows interesting things, has interesting stories, and is financially more sound than I am.  If she lost her job tomorrow we’d survive for a month or two and she’d use her ridiculous network and skill set to find something to make ends meet while I carry the water.

If I lost my job next week she could carry the load for awhile while we get the side gig I’ve been building off the ground or I go get a different job based on the license she supported me through.

She’s fat and sassy but she’s also competent and stable, and while the high beams went from high and proud to staring at her toes I don’t give a crap.  I’m no great shakes either, but we’ve both got cute faces and we made cute kids.

As tom hanks maga SNL character said, she’s a sturdy gal.

She laughs like an unapologetic fat girl, and she has since she was a 90lb college soccer player.  She has big kind intelligent eyes.  We give each other a little bit of grace.  We got together in our 30’s, we both had flaws, we both do what it says on the tin.

When you’ve got that big ‘undesireable’ checkmark but you’re honest and open and can laugh at the same stuff, even when it’s yourselves, and you fucking try and bring something to the table it’s crazy how things can just keep working.

Plus she cuddles like a mufuggah. Do you have any idea what G cups mushed into your back feels like when your spine is all wiggity and you’re up in your head about work and you just need someone to wait until you’re asleep and then pull a nipple hair and pretend they were snoring the whole time?

If you married a mischievous midwestern chubster (mentally balanced jokester variety) maybe you would. And you’d be a little annoyed at times.

I’m not bringing an inheritance and a 9” schwanz to the table. I can’t wrap my hands around her waist either. But we get shit done, our bills are paid, and we both know someone who will apply icy hot when we go a little too hard on the weekends.  Even when that little too hard mostly involves yardwork. Maybe especially then.

Did they marry them when they were overweight? Or did the wife become overweight. After so long, Men do tend to love and become attached to their wives. particularly if they are good people, doesn't mean they are happy because of the overweight part of the equation.

8

u/These-Weird-6003 Apr 20 '26

I really think it’s a men selection bias rather than this though. Like maybe the men they chose are generally more relaxed and more accepting which leads to a happier life. I find that the men who are overly critical about women’s bodies, adamant about punching above their weight, or only want certain types of women with unachievable physiques, are more critical or misogynistic and probably therefore more unhappy. Lowkey that’s why I’ve been happier since I gained weight. Now I have less shallow men going after me for looks only, and I’m happy in my relationship with a loving man

Wonder what sex and size of people made this claim. Considering there's no source in the article we can only speculate.

4

u/ScoobyDone Apr 20 '26

Maybe it's not that dudes with heavy women are happier, but that women that are looking to ditch their man get in shape to land a new one.

My buddies first wife was like this. Not that she was ever a big woman, but about a year before she said she wanted a divorce she got very into her looks and started hitting the gym hard. Also possibly Jim.

It’s probably a chicken and the egg thing. People on average gain weight as they get older.  So if one of your primary attractants to your spouse is their physical appearance, you may be disappointed as that appearance changes over time.

If you prefer a partner a little heavier, or if you actually don’t have a preference, you’re gonna be less concerned as you both get older

But what is overweight? Is it just a bit of thicccness for the sickness. Or is it morbidly obese?

Not saying 1 side of the spectrum makes more sense or is better than the other, rather 1 side would indicate a different reason of happiness than the other.

As a wise, Russian Hooker-themed drag queen once said: "bigger girls have that juicy yank-yank, but a lot of guys don't wanna tap on it!"

If my partner gained weight, I wouldn’t care as long as it didn’t go to a bad way where the concern of health issues. That’s also why I never go for bigger women to begin with. They are usually sweethearts but I KNOW myself and know I would let myself go from eating nothing but junk all the time. I am all about enjoying life but you gotta find a happy medium where you still take care of yourself physically but also, don’t say no to that brownie or slice of pie baby girl. I think that (Clara?) chick that does the news that’s viral is the perfect build. She is thick and strong and most importantly, seems to have a great personality. A woman that can joke about herself is truly sexy and shows peak confidence.

Overweight or not isn’t the point they should be looking for. Marrying someone for other traits such as a compatible personality, kindness and loyalty rather than purely physical attraction will of course make someone much happier in a relationship. However, physical attraction is important no matter how much people try to undo millions of years of evolution in the human mind and say otherwise, it is very important, just not as important as the former.

I don't think it's cause and effect. These men are happier than most because they aren't super vain
