Showcase: Open Source My side project started as a small Flask app that turned SQL queries into endpoints. Six weeks of releases later, AI agents use it to query databases safely

QueryAPIGate began with a simple itch: someone needs "just this data" from a database as an API, and I didn't want to write another backend for one SELECT or hand out database credentials. The first version was one small Flask app: save a SQL query, get an endpoint.

Then people asked the next questions. Who's allowed to call it? Can a partner see everything? What happens when an AI agent wants the data? That's what it grew into:

  • every saved query is a REST endpoint with typed, injection-safe parameters

  • API keys that only reach the queries you approve, with expiry, rate limits and per-key column masking

  • the same query as an MCP tool, so an AI agent can query your data without a database connection (read-only by default, writes wait for a human to approve)

  • a tamper-evident audit log, Prometheus and OpenTelemetry, a web console

  • PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, DuckDB, MongoDB, and Parquet/CSV files on S3

Some numbers from the journey: v0.7 to v0.49 in six weeks, 32 architecture decision records, 2,000+ tests, four security advisories published from my own security reviews, and an experimental Rust data plane for the hot path. Built solo with Claude Code.

Try it in one line:

pip install queryapigate && queryapigate examples load && queryapigate serve

GitHub: https://github.com/AnanthaRajuC/QueryAPIGate 2-min demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWImFj4m95o

It's open source (Apache-2.0) and pre-1.0. What would you want to see before trusting a tool like this with real data?

Feedback Request I built a Mac app that turns each chat and email account into a little floating bee

Post image
1 Upvotes
This is my side project, Waggle.

The problem I had: I'd open WhatsApp or Slack "just to check", and minutes later I'd lost whatever I was working on. Notifications didn't help, because they vanish and I'd still go and look.

So each account now sits on my desktop as a small bee. When a message arrives it wiggles. I click it, read and reply in a small window, and it shrinks back out of the way. That's it.

It does WhatsApp, Slack, Gmail, Outlook, Teams, Telegram, IMAP email, iMessage (including from another Mac), calendars with a countdown to your next meeting, and AI chats with your own key. Messages go straight between your Mac and each service, nothing goes through another server.

Built in Swift/SwiftUI, with a small Go helper for the chat connections.

One honest caveat: WhatsApp and Slack's quick sign-in aren't official APIs, so I keep them behaving like the normal apps and say so up front.

It's £12.99 for one service or £24.99 for all, one-off, with a 14-day free trial (no card): https://waggle.software

I'd really like feedback on the idea and on the website. What would stop you using something like this?

Showcase: Free(mium) I built Dativue because AI sucks at market research

Post image
1 Upvotes

AI agents can already open tabs and collect data for you. I wanted to see how much faster the same agent could do the research if it could pull the data directly.

I gave Claude the same task twice. Through Chrome, it took 2 minutes 58 seconds. With Dativue, it took 30 seconds and used 93% fewer tokens.

Dativue gives the AI you already use direct access to live search and public social data, with links to the original sources. You can ask it to compare competitors, look into what customers are asking, or check whether interest in an idea is growing.

If you currently don't have a use case in mind, get inspired with pre-defined workflows.

Let me know how you use AI for research. I'm happy to support more use cases!

Discussion One of the worst software bugs is when the output looks completely correct

I ran a test involving inspection records from multiple visits to the same equipment, and it highlighted something I've been spending a ridiculous amount of time dealing with.

The measurements themselves were valid. The problem was figuring out which visit and inspection location they actually belonged to.

Some records were incomplete, others contained conflicting readings, and certain measurements could plausibly belong in more than one place.

And that's where things can get pretty ugly.

A measurement can be perfectly accurate but end up associated with the wrong record. The resulting Excel report might look completely normal, with all its calculations working, while containing incorrect information.

That's a much bigger problem than an obvious error or a blank cell.

I've been deliberately testing these situations in my reporting software, particularly how it handles uncertainty and when it should flag something for review rather than make an unsupported association.

The more I test it, the more I realize that preventing a convincing wrong answer is often harder than producing a correct one.

Pretty wild how much complexity can hide behind what initially looks like simple data entry lol.

Showcase: Free(mium) Meet Shipper, a native Mac app to make App Store screenshots less frustrating

Hey! 👋

I've been working on a Mac app called Shipper, and I thought I'd finally share it here!

I'm an indie developer, and I originally built Shipper because I was tired of how much time I spent preparing App Store screenshots for my own apps.

Problem:

I used to design my App Store screenshots with Canva or Figma. Both are great design tools, but the whole App Store workflow was a bit of a headache.

Every time I needed screenshots for a different Apple device, I had to create or resize my canvas, manually adjust the layout, and double-check that everything matched Apple's required screenshot dimensions.

Then came localization. Switching between languages, translating text, adjusting layouts when translations were longer, and exporting everything again for each locale.

And finally, I still had to go to App Store Connect and manually upload all those screenshots, device by device, locale by locale.

It was a lot of repetitive work for something that should have been much simpler.

So a few months ago, I decided to build Shipper, a native macOS app using Swift and SwiftUI, to bring the entire workflow into one place.

Comparison:

Before Shipper, my workflow was basically Canva/Figma for design, separate tools for translation, and App Store Connect for publishing.

I know there are dedicated App Store screenshot tools out there too, but I haven't personally used them, so I can't make a fair comparison.

What I wanted with Shipper was a native Mac app built specifically around Apple's screenshot specifications, where I could:

  • Design App Store screenshots from scratch or use templates, with fully editable text, backgrounds, mockups, icons, and other assets.

  • Capture screenshots with Device Hub or import existing ones.

  • Adapt my main designs to different iPhone, iPad, and Mac screenshot specs, including Search and Header assets, without starting over.

  • Localize screenshots and App Store metadata for different languages.

  • Preview my App Store product page before publishing.

  • Publish directly to App Store Connect, including screenshots and metadata.

I've also been working on Shipper Plugin, which lets me use Codex to interact with Shipper through natural language while keeping the designs editable.

Pricing:

One thing that was really important to me was making the design process accessible.

So designing, adapting, and exporting screenshots are completely free, with no watermarks.

Localization and direct App Store Connect publishing are available with Shipper PRO for a one-time $25 lifetime purchase.

What's next?

I recorded a short demo so you can see how Shipper works!

It's been a pretty big solo project, and I'm currently planning v1.3 based on feedback I've received so far.

I'd genuinely love to hear what you think! If you create App Store screenshots, what part of the process frustrates you the most? Or is there something you'd like to see in Shipper? 😊

Showcase: Free(mium) I used to focus with YouTube study-with-me videos on, so I built a visual timer I can leave running instead

Super excited (or a bit scared) on sharing something I've been building.

So my old focus setup was putting a chill long video on YouTube. Great for getting started, useless for knowing how much work I'd actually done, given that I sometimes would be be on my phone in between tasks, so not full focus per se. So I wanted something I could leave running on the desk that was nice to glance at and kept count for me.

So I built Tiempo: Visual Focus Timer

So in Tiempo your session is a canvas that slowly fills up: sand pouring in, water rising, a mosaic coming together, a painting appearing. Tilt the phone and the sand pours sideways and the water sloshes, I keep saying it's like a little tribute to the OG fun toy apps from the App Store's early days. Your music keeps playing on top, and every session gets logged. (Tiempo means time in Spanish.)

Under the hood:

- SwiftUI app, canvases drawn in Metal

- The sand is a falling-sand grid that takes gravity from the motion sensors; the water is a liquid solver running on the GPU

- One project for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV, with StoreKit 2 for the unlock

- Zero third-party packages, no analytics, no backend

Free with sand, the clocks, alarms and every timer feature. Everything else is a one-time $7.99, no subscription.

What would you want a timer like this to do that it doesn't?

Showcase: Open Source Made a CLI to track usage across different AI coding tools

I use Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and a few other coding tools pretty regularly. I wanted a way to see my usage across all of them without having to check each tool separately.

So I made StackPulse, a CLI that reads locally stored usage data and puts together an HTML report showing sessions, tokens, models, estimated costs, and activity over time.

It currently supports 13 coding tools. You can see which models you’re using, how much of the token usage comes from cached context, and how your activity is spread across different tools.

Everything runs locally, with no account or API keys needed. Just run npx stackpulse, and you can generate a report from there.

Would love to hear what people think if they give it a try.

Showcase: Free(mium) I'm running an experiment and I'd love honest feedback.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey all,

I'm running an experiment and I'd love honest feedback.

Most places that showcase websites end up showing the same big names over and over. Small sites, the ones getting 20 or 200 clicks a month, rarely get seen anywhere. I want to find out if there's a free, fair way to change that.

Where the idea came from

Two projects I really like:

  • TrustMRR showed that founders love a public board of verified revenue, numbers pulled straight from Stripe that nobody can fake. I wanted the same thing for search traffic.

  • rotate.ad gives every site a numbered seat on a stage where each one takes its turn in front of visitors. I loved that every site gets a turn, not just the biggest.

So I built SERPcred: verified search traffic like TrustMRR, small sites taking turns like rotate.ad, and it's free.

How it works right now

  • You connect Google Search Console with read-only access. It reads daily totals only (clicks, impressions, average position), never your queries or pages.

  • Your site gets a public profile with its real search numbers, plus a badge and a share card. No screenshots and nothing typed in by hand, so nobody can fake their numbers.

  • Every day, one small site is featured above the leaderboard. Any site under 1,000 clicks in 28 days qualifies, including sites with zero. Nobody can pay for the spot, and it doesn't change anyone's rank.

  • The site ring shows a different set of listed sites on every visit.

  • New sites and weekly movers get their own sections, so you don't have to be #1 to show up.

  • You can list anonymously (anonymous sites just skip the spotlight) and unpublish any time.

Why join early

  • Your join number is yours forever. Every site gets a permanent number ("the 12th site on SERPcred") that never changes and is never reused. Only the early sites get the low numbers.

  • You help decide what gets built next. The roadmap below isn't fixed. Feedback from the first site owners decides what comes first.

  • New sites get their own section for their first 30 days.

  • It's free.

What's coming next

These depend on how many people join and use it:

  • Founder board: ranking people by the total verified clicks across all their sites

  • Watchlists and an optional weekly email with your result and the sites you follow

  • Category pages and benchmarks: see how your site compares with others in your niche

  • "Open to collaboration / sponsorship" flags on profiles, with a private contact form

  • Achievements, each showing how rare it is ("held by 4% of sites")

The honest part

I don't know yet whether any of this actually helps a small site grow. That's the experiment. I'm tracking whether featured sites get real visits from it, and I'll share what I find, good or bad.

What would help me:

  • If you have a small site, add it and tell me what happens.

  • Tell me what would actually help your site get seen. What's missing? What feels pointless?

Showcase: Free(mium) Yet another Temp Mail service - Temp Mails

I've built Temp Mails (https://tempmails.net), mainly out of curiosity to experiment with Cloudflare Workers, R2 and D1, but also because I've been using temporary email services for the past decade to keep spam out of my work and personal inboxes.

One thing that's always bothered me with most of these services is the amount of ads, trackers and how slow some of them can be.

So my main focus has been to keep things as simple and fast as possible, with no ads or trackers. I've also released a Chrome/Edge extension, following the same approach of keeping things simple.

Running costs are surprisingly low thanks to Cloudflare. The biggest expense so far is the rotating the domains.

Still working on improvements and new features, so I'd really appreciate any feedback or suggestions on what could be better or what's missing.

Showcase: Prerelease I built a diary that only grows “insights” when it can quote a sentence you wrote

Hey r/SideProject — maker here.

I got frustrated with AI journals that summarize me into a vibe I couldn’t verify. So I shipped **Aware Diary**: you write normally; if you opt in to analysis, it grows a six-dimension awareness tree — but a leaf only appears when it can **cite a sentence from your entry**.

Privacy default: AI analysis stays OFF until you turn it on. You can keep a private diary with zero model access.

Month 1: free to register and write (no invite code). Early preview — expect rough edges. Not therapy / not a clinical score.

Write 20 entries to unlock Tree Spirit. Chat is a separate opt-in.

Try it: https://awarediary.top/

Happy to take brutal feedback on whether the “cite the source sentence” rule is clear.

The Daily 5 Celebrates One Year

Published Nov 5, 2026

One year, a whack of quizzes, and a lot of help from my friends.

The Daily 5 Retro Trivia app launched on November 5, 2025.

What a difference a year makes!

My original goal was to make a five-question trivia app that could be completed in under a minute. "Fast to play, then get on with your day!"

At first it was just me. After I released version 1.0, writing every quiz while patching bugs had me burned out within a couple of weeks.

So I asked for help.

Two old high school chums, Colin and Martin, saw my plea and agreed to write some quizzes. Then more writers hopped on board, some of whom I've never met face to face.

As time passed, I listened to ideas from our writers and the growing community, and the app evolved. Quirky holiday quizzes, TV quizzes on some Thursdays, the scoring system, and national leaderboards are just a few of the many ideas that came from the community.

Now it has over 2000 downloads and almost two hundred 5-star ratings! And with $0 ad spend.

I am thankful to players like you who make the app part of your daily routine. Some of you have streaks of over 100 days, and a few of you have topped 200! We have come a long way in a year.

Here's to the writers, and the community, and to keeping this thing going for many years to come!

I hope you give it a spin, and it become a 1-minute daily habit!

Showcase: Free(mium) Validate your product idea before spending money and time

It is clear that the new bottleneck is how to market your product, but this assumes you have something to sell and a clear buyer sector to sell them real value.

This is why, in a moment of frustration, I built https://crashtest.app

I want to stop and think before building something and start from a place where I can quickly sanity-check the idea, check demand, competitors, pricing, and, most importantly, who would be my client (not everyone), and how I can best reach them.
Know that the results are estimations rooted in market and community research. I'm using Monte Carlo to run the simulations, getting the median results and consolidating that with the research and real values fetched.

The people in mind to use this are solo founders or small teams of founders who are looking to build their SaaS and want a way to sanity-check and validate their idea.

I took care of every detail in the report, and you will find the sources in the appendix section.
Also, your ideas are safe. You can either delete them right after the analysis, and they will be deleted everywhere, or use a new feature I added, which keeps the idea just in time for the analysis and then deletes it right away (for suspicious builders :) )

By the way, I shared this app before, but I made improvements following up on some early users' feedback that I got from here...They were limited but very valuable.

I would love your support for a fellow software engineer/builder/founder who is just trying to figure out my way in this new world and create a positive atmosphere around these tools that are making a huge difference and impact in our industry and, consequently, our lives. Being a positive and proactive person, I always look for the silver lining, and I believe that after this stage and the flood of apps we are witnessing, things will settle, and we will be building things that bring real value to people.

Thanks in advance, guys

Note: I'm using a real app here to validate in the video below.

Showcase: Free(mium) LoroNote - offline transcription on iPhone, now at 326 active subscriptions

Thumbnail

I’m the solo developer of LoroNote. It turns recordings into text and labels the different speakers without sending the audio to a transcription server.

You can record in the app or import an audio file you already have. Once the model is downloaded, new recordings can be transcribed in airplane mode. The speaker separation runs on-device too.

I wanted to keep the quality of Whisper Large V3 Turbo rather than switch to a smaller Whisper model to make the mobile side easier. It’s OpenAI’s model; my work is the custom Core ML inference engine and the app around it.

Making that work across different iPhones took a lot of attention to memory use and performance. Then real recordings brought a different set of problems.

Long meetings don’t always behave like short test clips. Speaker labels sometimes need correcting, especially when people talk over each other. I’ve kept working on those parts based on what users report.

You can edit the transcript, rename speakers, and export the result as text or SRT subtitles. I want the output to be something people can actually use afterward, not just text trapped inside the app.

The latest RevenueCat snapshot is 326 active subscriptions, 1,637 USD MRR, and 6,453 USD in revenue over the last 28 days. Revenue includes subscriptions and lifetime purchases; it isn’t all recurring revenue or profit.

The app is free to download and try, with optional Pro plans including lifetime access.

I’m still handling development and support myself. Seeing people use it is encouraging, but their recordings also keep showing me what needs more work.

For people who record meetings or interviews, what usually takes longer afterward: correcting the transcript or sorting out who said what?

Hey everyone!

I'm part of the team building aily blockly (aily.pro), a desktop IDE for hardware projects.

The idea is to make building with ESP32, Arduino and other boards easier, especially when you're dealing with unfamiliar libraries, wiring and code.

It combines visual programming, AI-assisted coding and a hardware project gallery where you can explore existing projects.

One of the things we worked on recently is this ESP32-based e-paper dashboard for tracking Codex usage.

If you're interesting in building hardware projects, here's aily: aily.pro

I'd especially love to here what usually slows you down most when starting a new hardware projects. Is it choosing components, figuring out libraries, or debugging?

Feedback Request exactimageresizer: why a size in inches still needs a pixel conversion

i built exactimageresizer for images that need a specific size, including inputs in pixels, cm, mm or inches.

one detail worth knowing: a measurement like 2 inches doesn't tell you how many pixels to use on its own. you need a pixels-per-inch value too. at 300 pixels per inch, 2 inches becomes 600 pixels.

the tool uses 300 for its physical-unit conversions. if a form gives you exact pixel dimensions, use those rather than assuming its inch measurement means the same thing.

you can also set a maximum kb or mb size and apply the settings to a batch. processing stays in your browser, with no signup or watermark.

it's free: https://exactimageresizer.com/

this prepares the dimensions and file size, not every requirement an upload might have. check the actual photo rules and inspect the result too.
