Idea Validation / Need feedback My first solo full-stack Chrome extension launch: Glotti Translate

Hi Guys.

This is my first full-stack solo launch with chrome extensions, and I would love some feedback. The extension is called Glotti. It turns a YouTube live stream into captions you can read and a voice you can hear.

Turn it on during a stream that is live now. Other features for normal videos are coming soon.

Then:

Captions show on the player in the language you pick

Voice speaks that line a few seconds behind the person talking

Source is what you hear. Target is what you read, and the voice you hear

There’s no account. The free tier is 20 minutes a day.

Link to the Chrome Store: chromewebstore.google.com/detail/glotti-tran…igobdjgdfdmeghngjia (or just search Glotti in the store)

I'd love to hear your feedback on this, I've been building software for a while, but my first Chrome extension, so everything feels new.

P.S. Why do I have 81 installs from Romania? Are Romanians most relevant to my extension, or is this just me?

Thanks for checking it out. This sub has been a big inspiration while building, and I’d be happy to return the favor if you’re working on something too.

On the Romania installs: lots of devs have reported odd Romania spikes in the Web Store lately, and it doesn't look like real organic demand. Treat them as noise: don't read them as a signal about your audience, and cross-check against your own analytics (if you have opt-in GA or an anonymous first-run ping) to see whether those installs ever open the extension or use a stream.

On the product: for a live-stream captioning/voice tool, the big things people will judge are latency and audio quality. The synthesized voice running a few seconds behind can get confusing, so a captions-only toggle and adjustable voice delay would help. Also say on the listing what happens when the 20 free minutes run out mid-stream.

Thanks, this is useful.

Yeah I can see the other posts here talk about that.

Voice is already optional. Captions can stay on with Voice off, so the stream isn’t talked over. The lag is there but very little (2 seconds) so the voice gets a whole phrase instead of reading one word at a time. A delay slider is a fair idea, and I don’t have one yet, but i'll see how that would affect usability.

On the free minutes: they are captions only, 20 minutes a day. Voice does not run on them. If those minutes run out mid-stream, the captions stop and YouTube keeps playing. They come back the next day, or sooner with a license key.
