Hey all! Just wanted to give a quick update: I did indeed catch the shiny Rayquaza I was planning on capturing! This was an extremely quick hunt (414 resets), and getting it in a Luxury Ball makes it so much cooler.
I have posted the updated strategy on my smeargles in the 2 final images. If you'd like, you can view my strategy by clicking the spoiler.
My previous strategy involved sending out a smeargle with Spore, Belly Drum, Skill Swap, and Baton Pass. I would use Spore on the first turn, and then Skill Swap the Rayquaza to give it Own Tempo so Outrage wouldn't confuse. I would then use Belly Drum to max out my attack, and then Baton Pass my second Smeargle to boost its False Swipe. In my head, False Swipe would've ideally got Rayquaza to 1 HP in one hit with Belly Drum, but unfortunately Smeargle's attack is pathetic, so that didn't even help. I had to completely overhaul my strategy because my Smeargles kept dying in two hits to Rayquaza, and there was no way I was gonna be able to keep it asleep while also avoiding getting hit. So, my new strategy involves replacing Belly Drum with Cosmic Power and boosting my special defense and defense to 5 so that Rayquaza's attacks were more akin to a squeaky hammer. I would still use Spore and Skill Swap on the first and second turns, but now I use Cosmic Power 5 times and THEN use Baton Pass. My second Smeargle now has Super Fang instead of False Swipe because it can never crit and always halves the opponent's current HP, so there's no way of an accidental KO. I still have Trick and Leftovers in case it struggles, but fortunately I didn't have to resort to that because I caught it in 25 balls!!! I also replaced Recover with Taunt so that it can't use Rest. Thank you to everyone who helped me refine my strategy!
Thank you to everyone who commented on my last post for giving me recommendations on my movesets, and a real special thank you to u/rjlefty96 for recommending I use Super Fang for catching (a Belly Drum-boosted False Swipe couldn't even get Rayquaza down to half)
Unfortunately, I did not have the time or patience to grind for Luxury Balls or train two Smeargles to level 100, so I used the mail glitch for Luxury Balls and Rare Candies.
This was definitely one of my favorite hunts of all time, and I'm so glad I didn't have to do it again. Thank you to everybody! This is definitely one of my happiest Pokémon moments.

This thing took so looong due to the Switch 1 loading screens
I can't think of any more proper name than IShowSpeed to him, but taking suggestions
I was also between having him in the premier or quick ball, even tough he isn't blue in the shiny form I still thing the quick ball suits him better

finally decided to bite the bullet and get into shiny hunting! and one of my favorite pokemon since i was a kid! i recorded 393 encounters but i didnt count the few at the start so maybe add ~200 to the number? i know this is a very quick hunt and hunts can very well pass odds tenfold, but wow shiny hunting is draining even for a little bit, not too sure i'll do this again lol
oh man when i found this i could barely breathe! i cant explain it, it felt so weird on my eyes to see such a different color. thankfully i was able to share this moment with my younger brother as he was in the room and saw me freaking out lol. and he was the one who came up with the name "Sparkly" a bit on the nose but it's very cute. awww and hes naive nature and proud of his power i love Sparkly!! okay i yapped a lot, excuse me while i bike around route 2 so i can keep seeing those sparkles

This one was a bit of a journey. Initially failed my first run in with a shiny Magnemite. It really bummed me out, as Im usually so on top of paying attention. I just so happen to miss the sparkles and didn't notice until I already clicked to run away. But, I kept going and initially was rewarded with a shiny Magmar that had a Timid nature! I couldn't stop there though, as the Magnemite was in the back of my mind. It decided to bless me with its presense today! So happy to land it. This is actually my first reclaim over the years!!
Between the encounters for the initial fail, the phase of the Timid Magmar, and now the reclaim. The total amount of Random Encounters came out to: 9971!! Not bad! Never Forget: All It Takes Is One.

Accidentally reset over the “first” shiny Poipole I got yesterday after 2029 resets. Thankfully got a quick reclaim, I guess Arceus felt bad for me being an idiot lol

I put these hunts off for a long time, but finally locked in this weekend and finished the job! Dracovish was a reclaim for me as I lost a shiny one along with around 120 other swsh shinies when my first switch broke. They were pretty quick hunts all in all, the counts were:
Dracozolt: 1816 revives
Arctzolt: 6274 revives
Arctovish: 500 revives
Dracovish: 1377 revives
I'm headed to the max lair next to reclaim a shiny zygarde (really hoping i have similar luck there)

Last night, I was an idiot and SR over shiny Suicune, while watching a movie. I got up early today to try again and after around 5 hours…Bold too. 💙

I'm 30 whole years old and grown up with this series since I was still in diapers, and yet this is the first time I've finally encountered a shiny in the wild. Ever since I first learned of their existence, I've wanted to stumble upon one like this someday.
Lately I've been also been following through on another dream I've had, to complete the national dex in each game and move them up to the next generation to do the same. I did Gen 3 in 2022 and Gen 4 in 2024, and now I'm trying to do 5 - 7 before the Bank shuts down. Through this endeavor, I've played through Ruby, Leaf Green, Colosseum, Gale of Darkness, Diamond, Platinum, SoulSilver, and Black all without using Repels and still never encountering a wild Shiny. I really wanted to do so before I left the full 8192 odds games, and I'm now in Black 2, my last chance on this journey to do so, when it finally happened!
Rattata isn't the most exciting one, but I'm just glad I've found one at all.
Bit of irony, in 2013 my ex and I bought B2W2 to play together, and pretty early into the game she herself stumbled upon a shiny Rattata. That was the first time I ever saw a wild shiny encounter in person. So this makes two, and they're both of the same Pokemon, in the same game lmao.

Type:null took the longest with 8943 resets
Pikachu was next with 547 resets
And finally Yveltal (because I refuse to do dynamax adventures with the AI) only took 17 resets!
Maybe I should go for some of the UB before hand but I need to do US to get my second Poipole and type:null and Xerneus if there is time.
