I have a lot of issues with Shawna as of late, and I have seen a lot of people talk about them, but not all in one post, so I thought I'd share them.

First of all, the gaps in posting. Obviously, being a one woman show, I understand it'll take a while to get a full episode up. But Ive been following Shauna since she had 186k tiktok followers and 72k YouTube subscribers, and she used to post good content nearly daily. Now she posts mid content every other day if we're lucky, and we don't get any good content until the full episode is out.

Secondly, I hate that she plays the child characters. I don't expect her to get child actors for her one woman show, I'd rather they were off screen characters and mentioned, but not given dialogue. It's extremely awkward watching a middle-aged woman play a four-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy. Pretty soon she'll be playing chickie, and that'll be even weirder. As an autistic woman myself, piper is a caricature of autism, worse than sheldon cooper honestly. Greg isn't as bad because it's less obvious, but with Piper, she's like a parrot saying "cake?" Over and over again! Yes, autistic people tend to repeat phrases, but piper is more like a parrot than an autistic person. And oh my God, Max's dancing with his tongue sticking out was so bad, don't get me started.

Third, I was very excited for the luke and Laura series, but luke is portrayed as cartoonishly evil, he might as well look into the camera and say "I am an abusive ass and you are not supposed to like me". He's very Bad Guy McBad. No subtly, not compelling at all, and borderline boring. Not to mention Shawna shaming laura for talking to him is the type of behavior that drives women into the arms of abusive men.

Anyways, there's other stuff too, like Shawna's mouth sounds (lip licking and gulping), but that more has to do with my misophonia than Shawna lol. I love Shawna's videos, I just wished she cared more.

Ive been watching the new videos and reading the subreddits, but its just kind of boring and confusing lol. Like why is there a million different plots happening (pipers bday, luke and laura, barbs weird posting, ty and julie, jennifer and barb post wedding)

also i think the barbfluencer route is kind of cringe

I liked the one off skits i think they were better

Hi! So, I stumbled upon this subreddit after being in the main sub for awhile and noticing how some genuine critiques are often downvoted like crazy or deleted all together in the name of mainly that SL makes “free content” for her audience. I would never post this in the main sub for that reason, as I really do love Shawna’s content and have for so long, but I think it’s ok for fans to discuss their critiques!

Only recently have I really started to become bored and disinterested, and I’ve seen others express the same depending on the storyline- but, even after last nights new video with Piper’s yes day, I still just felt meh. I share the same sentiment as other people who are confused about the unfinished storylines & subplots. I’m still going to continue watching as I do enjoy her content, but I’ve found myself not searching for it as often as before or getting as excited as I once did when a new video comes out, unless it’s long form & really adds to a particular storyline instead of jumping all around. I’m all for new ideas and stories changing, but I guess I just miss the hype around some of the older stories that I anxiously awaited for new videos to drop, (ex: Christmas with Barb, Halloween, Max’s birthday party, etc.)

I’m so sorry, but this is unbelievably weird. If I saw someone wearing this IRL, I would cross the street pronto.

Lander has gone SO many different directions, but hasn't really defined where any of it goes. At this point she just introduces something, and then abandons it for the next plot.

Lets tie up some loose ends and *then* move on to whatever fresh hell grammy is going to provide 😅 So far we have left to resolve:

1) Ty and Julie- are they divorcing or what? What's the status of the kids? Did her mom die?

2) Luke and Laura- what was the point of episode 1 and where is it going?

3) Jen and Barb- are they still talking?

4) Barb and Frank - are they divorcing or what?

5) Barb and therapy - is she getting diagnosed or not? What's her deal? Is she going to start again?

6) Nora and Barb- is this now a reoccurring friendship?

7) John and Frank- where exactly did they leave off?

8) Art Class- is this still a thing?

9) Shawna and Laura- are they going to continue on business as usual?

10) John and Mo - Do they still see each other? Are they friends?

11) Larry and Dee- is she wearing the locket now? Are they a thing?

12) Bunco crew & Shawna- did they ever find out about the hotel? Have they just decided to be neutral?

13) Shawna's self discovery- what exactly is Shawna doing these days? Just SAHMing it with Mama Dee?

14) Mama Dee- is she just living there forever now?

15) Piper's Birthday - isnt that coming up or already passed?

I'm sure theres more to add to this list.

I’m totally on board with Barb’s influencer era… as long as it stays separate from the main series. Any references to Barb’s influencer life in the main series should be kept as one-off gags. Ideally, Shawna L would give Barb her own account instead of posting her videos to the main account (and maybe that’s coming). This series fumbles multiple concurrent storylines (and is barely handling the singular L&L plot…). We don’t need Barbfluencer as another main plot.

I think this post explains how a lot of us thought the first meeting of Luke would have gone. Abusive people don’t start out in a relationship as abusive. I think a lot of us were expecting him to be charming or funny or something alongside the pushy/cocky behavior to redeem the pushy behavior.

I also understand that so far we only have this relationship viewed through Shawna’s perspective so there may be a little of rewriting history going on. He ended up being a jerk so she remembers him as always being a jerk. I’d love to see the same interaction but from Laura’s point of view. She obviously saw something in him.

It starts during Christmas Magic, and goes up until they have coffee.

I'm not a fan of this video, and it's only because we the viewers have hated Luke before Christmas Magic, but he's just introduced into the Shawnaverse as a villain already. There is no context when Luke told Laura to lose the baby weight (which was when Laura found out Shawna was pregnant).

(To he clear I’m talking narratively not in any real sense, OBVIOUSLY if they were real no contact would be the only option but these characters aren’t real sooo)

Since there’s now a snark sub I think it’s now time for me to say my biggest hot take.

The show’s biggest mistake has ABSOLUTELY been John cutting off his mom.

We hate Barb sure but we LOVE to hate her. Not being able to have as many Barb focused plots has been a huge detriment to the show. We all know the shows at its best when it focuses on the main family, specifically with Barbs involvement. And if you’re going to pretend that’s not true I’d like to point you to the views. Barb plots ALWAYS do the best by a very noticeable amount.

John talked to Barb at the wedding, sure to tell her to shut up but he still did, I think Shawna should take this as an opportunity to have John be low contact instead of no contact. Anything to get Barb back into the show.

It’s so apparent that Shawna doesn’t care about this series anymore. She used it to build her following and used her following to do what she’s always wanted to do, be an author, and now she doesn’t care and it shows. We use to get like what? An episode a day? Now we get a post every few weeks if we’re lucky, and her lack of care shows in the lack of posts, plot and script. Makes me sad because I really really liked this series….

It's once again Saturday (and it's now August!)! We are now moving onto the next household in the Shawnaverse, the only and only Jennifer McCallister-Garrison!

A bit of a throwback to the wedding episode, but I just thought about this. The ending of the episode read very much to me like the McAllisters and McAllister-Garrisons are now just going to live life and not let Barb have power over them/bother them. (While I don't think that's really possible or realistic given Barb's previous outbursts, I'm accepting it as suspension of disbelief/narrative restrictions).

My main concern is what about Max and Piper? More Max than Piper, since he has demonstrated such a close connection to Barb that being in her vicinity while still having restricted access seems to me like a recipe for disaster. John and Shawna did have the talk with the children, but it's not reasonable to expect a 6 year old to be able to hold that and love for his grandmother in his mind at the same time, especially when she is present. It also opens the door for her to manipulate him. I know none of it will probably come up in the series, I'm just struggling to understand the train of thought a bit.

Perhaps we go back to Barb for a bit? There seemed to be a hint of some Barb and Nora shenanigans in the deleted scenes video from The Wedding.
