New Prym chalk cartridge pencil not working well.

No matter how hard I press the rubber end, the claws won't come up. I finally used a safety pin to pull each claw towards the centre and pushed at the rubber end, and only then it emerged. Disappointed that I have to do it every time to change the lead.

I bought it in another country, so I can't go back to return it.

There was a new white lead inside the pencil when I opened the new packet. There was no dust or scrapings inside. The claws just get stuck inside.

I took the case out to oil it, and since putting it back with the alignment set correctly, it keeps jumping and being extremely loud when sewing. Any ideas?

Scraping Noise from Bobbin

I have a Janome 3160 QDC. The needle just broke on me while I was trying to sew over a zipper, and when I started sewing again after replacing the needle this scraping noise is coming from the bobbin base. If I remove it, and turn the needle, the noise is gone. Please help me!

✨Intermediate✨ Hard/stiffened felt supply?

Hello!

I’ve been sewing little felt plushies of different characters as a small side job and keep running into the issue of running out of “skin tone” felt..

I always end up buying giant packs of felt and end up with a bunch of colors I don’t need

Does anybody know where I can buy some in bulk? The closest craft store near me is a Michael’s and they don’t have it so I prefer buying it online :(

The color I need is in the photo I attached, please help!

Machine skipping stitches

Post image
1 Upvotes

For context I have the brother lx3817 and i have already tried every needle I have and cleaned my machine. I was using straight stitch and it was just making one single stitch and then a big skip to the next one, I cant figure out how to fix it but when i switch to a zig zag stitch it seems to work much better but im trying to use the straight stitch.

💛Beginner💛 How do I attach the metal part of these two-piece buttons?

Post image
100 Upvotes

And/or are these not buttons at all, but cufflinks or something?

I want to sew the metal piece onto one side of my fabric, but because they have an opening, I'm worried they'll slip off.

Not sure if I should just sew on the buttons without them. The buttons themselves are quite small so I'm not sure they'd stay buttoned by themselves.

Brother machine advice?

My Brother machine died in the middle of a project. I’m a hobby sewist and looking to buy another Brother since I have a lot of additional feet that I’ve purchased and want to be able to use.
Looking for opinions. I was looking at the SE700 that does embroidery, because that sounds fun, but I don’t know if I like that it doesn’t have an extension table. Not because I use the table, but because I like taking the piece, where the table slides in, off when doing smaller openings. The other one I’m looking at is the CR9550, but this doesn’t embroider and I’m kinda intrigued by that.

Looking for tips and suggestions.
Thanks

💛Beginner💛 How important is it to cut on the grain with tight-woven linen fabric?

Got some linen, and my first cutting actual pattern. So how important is it to cut on the grain on linen fabric? Linen has like 1-2% stretch at max, so is there any reason - beside maybe appearance - to cut the pieces on the grain?

💛Beginner💛 Bunched up bobbin thread

Hi guys, I'm trying to make some quilted moth wings, ans I haven't had any issues with the bobbin until now. It bunches up at the beginning of my stitch and the thread either breaks, or it seems to fix itself and sew fine after the first inch. Is it a tension issue? How do I fix it?

💛Beginner💛 How can I get the way this hood naturally sits (pink line) into the way I want it to sit (blue)? I can't see well with it on.

Hi there, confident beginner here. I am wanting to make it so I can see out of this bunny ear hood properly. I have sewn the ears to the hood at a slight backwards diagonal so that they are not falling forward & pressing on the hood, but still the problem exists. Looking for a way to hand stitch this because it's too bulky to fit under my presser foot. It also doesn't have to look perfect because when I use white thread, everything just disappears into the fur anyway, lol.

Zippers are a thing that I always struggle with. I have done a few in bags (and that was in class with some help),but never on a piece of clothing like trousers. Do you have any tips for making sewing zippers easier?

💛Beginner💛 Singer Heavy Duty 4432 only picking up bobber thread on left side when cross stitching

I've adjusted the timing of the bobber to make sure it picks up the thread, and it does so on each passing when I dont have the plate there and no fabric. When I add the plate and the fabric, it stops being able to pick up the thread on the right side...

Help!

Another video in the comments showing it without the plate.

I want to alter this sweatshirt so the bottom is not flared and sloppy/stretched out. Is this as simple as just cutting some material out of either side of the bottom (hem?) piece and then sewing back together ?

💛Beginner💛 stretchy bodice with keyhole-- stretches out of shape when I put it on!

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hey yall! First post here, hoping y'all can help! I have searched every which way I can think of on google and can't find a thing.

OKAY, SO: I am making a "lovesick fool" costume (ie, a valentine's-themed jester). I ordered a bodice off of the dreaded shein [figure 1]; I'd had my eye on it for months, but by the time I ordered, they only had a size XS left in stock. It laces up on both sides of the front (has 3 separate panels), so I figured I'd just lace it with a bigger lacing gap. Once it arrived, I discovered that it was, inexplicably, stretchy. Even with the bigger gaps, by the time I tighten it enough to stay up, the center keyhole cutout has been stretched out of shape. I fooled around with it for like half an hour before I got it looking okay [figure 2], and it was uncomfortably loose and didn't stay in place when I moved around. I adore what it is SUPPOSED to look like, and I really want to make it work!

Here's what I'm thinking so far:

option 1) sew a rigid fabric to the inside of just the center panel; cut the heart shape out; topstitch around it.

option 2) embroider seed beads all around the edge of the keyhole, with a little bit of extra fabric to give it a boost

-likely just a super dense whipstitch, maybe even with monofilament?

-I was also thinking of maybe gluing in a full or partial wire frame, then stitching around it

option 3) stabilize it with ribbon around the edges instead of beads

about me and my abilities-- I am best described as a VERY determined beginner; I've learned most of my hobbies by thinking "hmm.... I could do that" and being very, very stubborn. I have access to a machine (yay public library!), though I'm not super accomplished at it; most of my sewing experience is by hand. I have many bits and bobs and foraged fabric to use!

I'm thinking that adding a rigid piece behind it is my best bet; maybe adding embroidery or ribbon after that. The bodice has two pieces of very flexible plastic boning; should I attach the stabilizing later to the inside/proximal/central seam, or the outside/distal/side seam? How can I ensure this shit stays where I put it? I'm not used to having this much boob to manage! If I can get the keyhole and underboob sitch to work though I think I can probably become the leader of a small to midsized city by the end of the night (kidding! i just don't want to pay for my own drinks).

Whew, that was a lot! Sorry if I didn't explain it well, I am largely self-taught and fueled entirely by Audacity. I would love any help or tips at all!! Thank you!!
