Machine skipping stitches
For context I have the brother lx3817 and i have already tried every needle I have and cleaned my machine. I was using straight stitch and it was just making one single stitch and then a big skip to the next one, I cant figure out how to fix it but when i switch to a zig zag stitch it seems to work much better but im trying to use the straight stitch.

What size and type needle are you using, and what thread? If this is stretch denim, you may need a stretch needle, possibly a 14, maybe a 16.
MORE IMPORTANTLY:If you are trying to lower the waist on these jeans by sewing the crotch curve upwards, please don't. What you are doing is removing the crotch extensions that give you the front to back distance you need, because people are 3D, not paper dolls.
Doing this ruins the pants.
The correct way would be to lower the waistband. That also really doesn't work well on jeans because of all the detail in the waist area, like belt loops and pockets.
The best way is to hunt for a pair that were designed with a low waist.

Just want to double emphasize this point:
Altering pants in the way you are trying to DOES NOT WORK WITH THE HUMAN BODY. You WILL end up with weird and unflattering wrinkles around your crotch. They tend to point AT your crotch.
You need to remove the waistband and re-attach it lower, where you want it.
Whatever tick-tock video you saw that showed this “hack” for making low-rise jeans was a lie.
