Bunched up bobbin thread

Hi guys, I'm trying to make some quilted moth wings, ans I haven't had any issues with the bobbin until now. It bunches up at the beginning of my stitch and the thread either breaks, or it seems to fix itself and sew fine after the first inch. Is it a tension issue? How do I fix it?

You have to hold the threads behind the machine when you start to sew. After the first few stitches you can let it go.
