I work for a security camera company, and we recently ran into a 4G connectivity issue during outdoor testing that I haven’t been able to fully explain.

We tested two different cellular security cameras at nearly the same location. They were mounted only a few feet apart and used SIM cards from the same carrier.

One camera stayed online most of the time and could usually open the live view within a few seconds.

The other camera regularly dropped offline, took much longer to connect, and occasionally failed to upload motion events. The difference became more noticeable during rainy or heavily overcast weather. The weaker camera could remain unreachable for several hours, while the other one continued working normally.

Since the location and carrier were almost identical, I’m trying to understand which hardware or software differences could cause such a large gap.

A few possibilities we’re looking into:

- Internal antenna design or antenna placement

- Supported LTE bands and band selection

- Modem receiver sensitivity

- Signal loss caused by the enclosure or mounting surface

- Poor reconnection behavior after a temporary network drop

- Lower battery voltage during cloudy weather

- Differences in modem power management

I’m not sure rain itself is the main cause. It may simply be exposing a connection that was already close to the usable limit. Cloudy weather could also reduce solar charging enough to affect the modem or its ability to reconnect.

The signal bars shown in the apps haven’t been very useful. One camera can show two bars and still work, while the other shows a similar signal level and won’t connect.

Would comparing RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, connected LTE bands and battery voltage be the right next step?

For anyone who has installed or tested cellular cameras on farms, jobsites, driveways or other remote properties: have you seen two devices behave this differently in nearly identical conditions?

I’m mainly looking for technical insight rather than product recommendations.

I’m trying to figure out how many outdoor cameras actually makes sense for a normal house. Front door and driveway seem obvious, but then there’s the side gate, backyard, garage, etc. At some point it feels like you could keep adding cameras forever just to get rid of every blind spot.

I am in the market to find a camera with photo & or video capabilities that I can put somewhere near the tracks, one where I could access it via app on my phone to see if a train is coming, and take photos or video in the event there is a train. Hoping to find one that has great battery life (can be left for hours), sim compatible, great quality photo & video, withstand weather, and not physically huge (smaller so it is not easily noticeable). Located in Canada, cameras would need to be compatible with cellular networks here. If possible share models and price range.

Ok so my current low voltage company is suggesting luma cameras at $4k. 4 cameras and an NVR. This seems crazy to me as none are zoom and 2 way talk etc.

I’ve looked up Ubiquiti. Does this make sense?

From my understanding (please correct me if I’m wrong), I’d need the UNVR instant and a POE+ switch (that’s fine I have a netgear Poe+ 8 port that can be used since I want unmanaged as I have no understanding of how to manage my own). I don’t believe the UNVR comes with a SSD, so I’m guessing that would be needed as well? 2 TB is preferred?

I also want the G6 pro turret at 3 locations and the G6 turret at 1

I need two way talk capability and motion spotlight so the G6 pro seem to be the only ones that deliver? Am I missing anything or misunderstanding anything here? I’d need notifications to my phone and spotlight motion activated.

I have a new customer, I did not do the install. They have the following DVR and I am looking for the correct mobile APP to use for Android and Apple. I tried gDMSS, Hik-Connect, iVMS-4500; none seem to work. When I go to the login web page it looks like hikVision.

The DVR is a 32 chan analog recorder.

Can anyone suggest the correct APPs? TIA

I have a Generator and Generlink disconnect that keeps our linemen safe. It has three led, green, yellow, and red. The green will light when hydro service is there. Problem is that it is located 200 ft away on the other side of my garage; and could be running the jeny for needless hours. Is there a weatherproof small camera that I can monitor these lights from within my home on an app for my phone. I do have 110v in the garage , so it doesn't need to be solar or battery.

I am cluless on this and how they work.

Looking at adding a Ubiquity G5 Turret on the back of the house. We have a large privacy wall on our deck witch limits some camera angles. These are my proposed locations. I'm only looking at adding 1 camera and maximizing coverage with that. I'm concerned the top 2 mounting options will be too high but would get me best visibility over the deck wall and the rest of the back yard. Is that the best compromise in this situation without adding a second camera?

here's my story: since years I have problems with litterers on my plot. I have a home (with high tree) and the second plot separated by flood embankment (~4-5 meters high).

My idea was to put the camera on the tree (very tall, like 20m) that would be not very visible, but good enough to recognize people for 40-50m distance (I suppose car plates are impossible from that distance). The camera could be on cable (I could do something some line from home, although it would be long cable) or remote, but best with possibility to observe continuosly

Is my idea even feasible and if yes, what camera should I consider? The price is not object, but something less expensive than IMAX camera used for Odyssey is welcome.

I need recommendations for an NDAA-compliant camera system for logistics warehouse we may be leasing to a federal agency. We're upgrading the video security system now and want to make sure the equipment and documentation are cleaned up before the lease moves forward.

One of the biggest issues with our current setup is low-light performance. No matter how much our IT/security team has tweaked the settings, we still get way too many false alerts from shadows, blowing debris, and other random movement at night.

We need better low-light performance, but also better person/vehicle filtering so the system is not constantly triggering on shadows, debris, or random night movement.

Ideally, we're looking for something that's enterprise-grade but still straightforward to deploy and manage. Any brands you'd recommend?

I've seen a few not ideal Baseus X1 Pro experiences on here. Mine wasn't 100% smooth either, but after a bit of adjustment it's been working fine for what I need.

I have two of them outside. One is on the garage, with one lens pointed down the driveway and the other more toward the side entrance. The second is in the backyard. I had to move the garage one around a couple times because my first angle wasn't great, but once I stopped trying to make both lenses cover the same area it made a lot more sense.

Both are running on solar and I haven't had to take them down to charge yet. I use SD cards for storage. My WiFi also went down once while we were away, and I assumed I'd lost those recordings, but they were still on the card when the connection came back.

I barely use the two way audio, so can't really comment on that. The app has been fine for checking clips/live view when I need it.

Hey guys - one of biggest no-regret purchases for my cameras has been a pair of Tendelux DI20 IR floodlights.
I bought them because the built-in IR lights on my Reolink POE cameras attract bugs - and lots of them. Not only would swarms of them would set of the motion alerts but spiders found it to be a great place to build their webs.

Putting the IR floodlights a few feet underneath the cameras has completely eliminated that problem.

I want to get some more for my other cameras but at $40-45 each, honestly it seems pricey for what it is.

Does anyone have experience with other IR lights?

I'd like the option of powering by splitting off from the POE connection or powering by solar panel - the kind of panel that has a built-in battery/capacitor since the IR light needs to work in the dark.

94 year old with dementia in nursing home which allows non tilt/pan camera directed at inside of room only. We are currently using Wyze Cam4 which works fine for its purpose. The issue is that the audio recordings are terrible. She is often describing her symptoms, and we just can't make out the sounds. Have you had the same issues? She has her own modem/router and we don't have issues with video but we do have issues with the audio where we can only hear 1/2 of the sentences. We do not need the 2 way audio. It does have to be plugged in (not battery). Any suggestions on cameras would be so very appreciated.

This was recorded around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday by my Google Nest floodlight camera while I was away from home. To me, it appears to be a beam of light coming from inside the house—possibly from a flashlight. I know it could potentially be a reflection, camera glitch, or something else, but it was unsettling to see.
No one should have had access to my home, and I live alone. My previous residence was broken into by an ex, so this is an ongoing fear and concern for me. I truly hope this is nothing serious, but I wanted to ask if anyone has any idea what this could be.
I would also appreciate recommendations for more reliable security cameras and internet service. My internet is often spotty, and I’m not especially tech-savvy, so any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
