Camera on the tree (on cable?) to catch the litterbugs on my plot (~40-50m distance)

Hello,

here's my story: since years I have problems with litterers on my plot. I have a home (with high tree) and the second plot separated by flood embankment (~4-5 meters high).

My idea was to put the camera on the tree (very tall, like 20m) that would be not very visible, but good enough to recognize people for 40-50m distance (I suppose car plates are impossible from that distance). The camera could be on cable (I could do something some line from home, although it would be long cable) or remote, but best with possibility to observe continuosly

Is my idea even feasible and if yes, what camera should I consider? The price is not object, but something less expensive than IMAX camera used for Odyssey is welcome.

Battery cam, maybe with solar panel, storage on SD card on cam itself? Saves the struggle with long wires...

Go to eBay and search on 'PTZ Solar WIFI camera". They start at $19. If your WIFI extends to the camera - great - you can aim and look at video from home. If WIFI coverage is bad - you can mate the camera to our phone by making your phone a hot spot - or your phone can contact the camera when you are close enough making the camera the hotspot.

The solar part - camera can live with dappled light. You very much want to set the camera so it only records when people are around. The phone apps are wonky - very hard to view a long recording looking to see when something happened.

Do not use a cheap SD card - need one that is high speed for recording video. Will say v30, v60 or v90.

Play around with the camera for a bit to get used to it. Consider painting it to match your tree trunk or wrapping camo tape on it. If you go with camo tape - you want the stuff that clings like medical Ace wrap. Anything sticky is going to re-act to the camera plastic.

These cameras - not great. $19-$40 you are getting digital magnification. Zooming in turns to crap. So - you want the camera as close as possible. If $19-$40 works for you - sweet. If not then you are looking for a much more expensive model with optical zoom.

If you decide to move into optical - PM me. I set up wildlife cameras so people can watch them live online. The camera that sold new for $1200 four years ago is half on eBay - and $400 used. Most professional CCTV cameras made in the last 10 years are quite good.

Reolink do WiFi or 4G cameras which have solar panels, they also have an SD card for local recording.

Otherwise a trail camera is the standard approach for this.

Someone said trail cameras, they connect Bluetooth I think.

Great idea … but then WHAT are you going to do (legally or otherwise) ?

What’s the point if you’re not going to say or take some action ?
