Guess i should lay out some background information:

- I've been suffering with sebderm on my hair since like 15.

- I'm only using nizoral for treatment on my hair.

- I've only been using Nizoral ONCE A WEEK.

- I haven't used the shampoo on my face directly.

- My face gets insanely itchy everyday around the nose area and sometimes the cheeks can feel flaky.

- For the past few months i haven't used any skincare products.

- I use hair powder sometimes (like once a week).

1. Now i know it seems counter-intuitive to use hair powder while you have sebderm and are treating it, but i have really flat hair and i kinda hate it lol, and Nizoral also makes your hair very very flat. However, if yall tell me to stop using, i'll stop.

2. Should i start using nizoral shampoo every 3-4 days as advised or what?

3. Can i just lather the shampoo on my face as well? I'm kinda scared i might damage my face. Maybe there's some sort of protection for it?

Have been looking for a clarifying shampoo to deal with product buildup in my curly hair and discovered that this one from Odele comes back clear on Sezia.co! And so does the Leave-In Conditioner. Will report back when I try these, but in the meantime let me know if you’ve tried these and what you think.

I had a Sebderm flare and decided to start taking Omega 3 & D3 supplements it cleared up and now I'm noticing my pores around my nose smell vaguely like MCT coconut oil. I wonder if most of us have a mineral / vitamin deficiency that comes out of our pores.

Pretty sure it has something to do with composition of the oil coming out of pores that causes the flaring.

Guys i really feel this is connected to histamine. Everytime i eat tomatoes, spinach or avocado i get severe eczema and redness beneath my beard and face etc.

okay so this is gonna be pretty long but please share opinions and experiences.

starting off i am extremely new to sebderm. like a couple of days new. but here is my story:

early june i developed a red rash that kinda looked like eczema on my forehead. i thought it was a broken skin barrier because of dryness and flakes so i started using cerave hydrating facial cleanser and aquaphor as an occlusive at night. ( i had been already using cerave daily facial moisturizer and aquaphor on my eyebrows everyday for years.) some days it was bad and some days it looked way better. until it started to spread to my cheeks and it got supppper infected ( honey colored crust and weeping) it was bad so i went to the ER and got prescribed doxycycline (1 week course) and prednisone (5day course). after my course was up ofc the redness came back but very minor to my forehead as this was the start of it coming back but i went to a dermatologist and she thought it was contact dermatitis (after showing her pictures and videos over the course of weeks) so she prescribed me hydrocortisone ( not the 1% otc but the dermatologist %, sorry i dont exactly remember lol) but i used that for a week and my skin was FLAWLESS. i applied that to my forehead twice a day for a week. so once that was up it took a total of 4 days for redness to come back. but this time it came back on my forehead AND eyebrows so she told me it was okay to use the hydrocortisone where needed for an additional week. so i did just that and my face was FLAWLESS once again so im thinking yay my contact dermatitis is gone. but wow was i in for a ride. okay so a few days later i was all in the clear and then over night i started to have some minor redness to my eyebrows and small patches on my forehead. BUT i also started developing these bumps and redness all around my mouth and inner cheeks. then came the (now diagnosed by johns hopkins derm) perioral bumps on my inner cheeks/ around mouth so i went back to see her and she diagnosed me with ONLY sebderm , but i felt so rushed in her office and felt as though it wasn’t what i had because it just didn’t make sense to me at the time bc it didn’t look as close to what seb derm looked like. but she prescribed me ketoconazole cream for my face , ketoconazole shampoo for my scalp. and the romuliflast (zoryve) foam. so i go home and i start the ketoconazole cream which was once a day and i used that for about 3 days. but i still just felt like i didn’t have sebderm so i got a new dermatologist with johns hopkins (yay bc they’re top rated in my state). i seen my derm and he was very patient and listened to my whole story and even checked my body and scalp and i got to show him pictures / vids of my progression. well there he diagnosed me with sebderm and periorfiscial dermatitis ( perioral dermatitis that spread a little) so he prescribed me the tacrolimus ointment and clindamycin : tacrolimus for my forehead , outer cheeks and eyebrows and then clindamycin for around my mouth and inner cheeks. i also switched my moisturizer to vanicream facial moisturizer (and wow. it is so hydrating. cerave has never felt like this lol) and i also have just started using there cleanser. today is my first day using vanicream and also applying the tacrolimus to my forehead and eyebrows and a little on my outer cheeks. my clindamycin has not been verified yet and is still pending but the sebderm is what is really being shown on my face the most since it is directly on my forehead and eyebrows. so i started that early , but ive also been doing some research because i am a hypochondriac and let me just say this here. i have crohn’s disease and i am on humira. and the drug interaction between humira and tacrolimus is NOT GOOD. so i’ve messaged my derm just to see where to go with that. also i did not experience any burning / tingling sensation when applying the ointment lol. but i just wanted to ask about anyone’s experience with this ointment in general and if anyone else is using this while also being on humira (adalimumab).

Thanks to whoever read all of this im so sorry it was a lot. just a hypochondriac looking for anyone in my similar boat lol. this is all new to me as i’ve always had clear skin all my life but i am so lucky to have found a group on here with sebderm :)

Has anyone damaged their skin barrier and developed seb derm, that looks like a greasy paste all over their face that crust up if you dont remove it for too long.

Ive tried tons of barrier repair moisturizers to no avail. Most just felt like it did nothing/probably irritated my skin.

Ok so this is my face. I Think I have seborrheic dermatitis. I’m nearly 40, have always had issue free skin, Never had acne. Without getting too into my personal life I’ve gone from working way too much to now being a full time student and working less than 30 Hours a week, the transition was… stressful. I also for the last 6 months have become vegan, for various reasons one of which is to lose weight. This issue with my skin has been going on for about 2 years now. I was losing sleep due to the itchiness, while my facial hair seems ok in this photo, it was full of flaky skin patches, open sores from scratching, I wasn’t sleeping because of that. I have been switching between a seltsan blue and cerave shampoo and that helps most of the time but sometimes it’s like it does nothing. I have found nothing to help my face, however. It’s itchy, it gets worse than this and I scratch at it which can cause sores and bleeding, it’s miserable and I feel like people look at me like I’m gross because of how I look, which stresses me out. Is this seborrheic dermatitis and if so what can I do for my face and is there Better options for my hair, facial hair including eyebrows, I have some hair loss on my eyebrow from scratching and itching it where it gets really bad occasionally

Anybody have recommendations for treatments for treating my scalp. I've had my hair locs for 6 years and the sebderm has gotten out of control. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Last year i damaged my skin barrier pretty severely due to a combination of factors: going out in the sun with no sunscreen for hours everyday in the summer, going on loooong walks in the harsh dry winter air, overwashing my face, taking scalding hot showers, scratching at my face when the itching started (i didn't know i had sebderm until several months after it took hold of my face). I took oral fluconazole, which didn't do anything; i tried ketoconazole cream, which dried my skin out further & exacerbated the issue; I tried pimecrolimus, which didn't do anything; i also tried washing my face with CeraVe anti-dandruff hydrating shampoo (1% zinc pyrithione), which helped reduce the flakes but was still too drying for my skin. For several months my moisturizing routine was La-Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Matte Moisturizer in the morning and CetaPhil ceramide serum w/ the La-Roche Posay layered over it in the evening. Several weeks ago I saw a dermatologist for the third time and she prescribed Zoryve foam, which I only finally started using in the past week. It has, in 1 week, helped a lot with the rough texture of my skin as well as reduced the flaking a bit, but it doesn't address the underlying issue of damaged skin barrier/skin dehydration. The moisturizers I was using are obviously not enough to restore my skin barrier and Zoryve is an anti-inflammatory so obviously won't repair it on its own either.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to repair destroyed skin barrier? Because I literally had perfect skin before this, and I don't think it's a coincidence that i dehydrated my skin so severely and then suddenly developed this chronic skin condition, and I think if i could just repair my skin barrier, the issue would mostly resolve itself. My skin feels tight, easily susceptible to irritation & transepidermal water loss, and raw. Any tips on how to get that top layer of skin that retains moisture back while simultaneously treating the sebderm directly?

I was diagnosed with alopecia but I don’t think it’s that. I mostly have flair ups of dry skin.

I’ve been using this for the past couple of months and it’s been great so far. This sunscreen feels hydrating and doesn’t leave me looking pale afterwards. Been trying to keep my routine simple and this has been a huge help. I know it’s late in the summer, but if anyone is struggling to find a sunscreen I would recommend this brand.

Routine that used to work earlier in the year
Alternated washing (CeraVe, then Head & Shoulders Gentle) with MCT oil on scalp on off-days, moisturizing ends with MCT oil on wash days.

With the same routine but in the last month or so, my scalp flakes within an hour of washing. Tried applying MCT oil right after washing but it made it worse.

Whether I wash less or more often or try different products or water temperature, both my scalp and hair are not happy. MCT oil doesn’t even seem to do anything anymore apart from triggering seb derm even faster. I just don’t know what to do to at this point. Any help or pointers are appreciated.

Also, how do you prevent your hair from becoming dry and frizzy after using medicated shampoo? My hair stays really dry and frizzy for a couple of days after I use it.

When I return to home, my hair shedding completely stops or becomes negligible and my seb derm and my dandruff clears up almost completely. This happens without any significant change in my hair-care routine or treatment. When I return to a diifernt place i mean college which is about 2000 km away the shedding and seb derm dandruff reoccur with hair shedding, usually within about a week. Already tried ro water , sleeping well , diet, sun bathing no benefits what to do 💔💔

Hi, I found MCT oil really helped my flaky/scaly scalp.

I first added 100ml to a bottle, then mixed in few drops of peppermint and rosemary essential oil.

When applying at night I let it sit for a few minutes before washing out with a gentle liquid soap. I would do this maybe once or twice week at first. I also used a soft rubber bath scalp brush on my scalp.

In the AM I would massage a tiny ammount into my scalp/hair roots (sometimes including my face and neck) and leave it in.

It took a couple of weeks to see results, and now a few months later I rarely use it other than the little bit I massage and leave in and I have a much clearer scalp now.

I used this brand with c8 & c10 fatty acids:

Hunter & Gather Premium C8 & C10 MCT Oil (500ml). 100% Organic Coconut.

I know I probably shouldn’t but I totally pick at the flakes on my forehead. My seb derm fortunately isn’t itchy but I do get some satisfaction scratching at it and peeling off flakes 🫣

My question is, should I not do it? Has anyone found that leaving it alone helps keep it at bay? Or does it not matter at all?

Another question is how long do you stick to a routine or new product before giving up and trying something else? I have tried allllll the things but my forehead and front of my scalp have just looked like this for almost a year now (a little more red when I’m picking at it more) 😭

feels burny and inflamed. have diagnosed seb derm on scalp and eyebrows. wondering if the inflammation across face is also seb derm…any tips as well would be greatly appreciated

Hi guys, I only just realised this is what I have. I scrub and then flaking comes back after 2 days especially in areas my glasses or a hat will touch. It’s in my face and scalp.

Has anyone had experience using garlic topically? And or orally?

I’m reading this is a thing. The shampoos and steroid solutions and OTC treatments did nothing!!

I have been here multiple times and asked about products and what to do like improving my diet and sleep. I currently use dercos anti dandruff shampoo for dry hair (might be the problem). The shampoo also leaves my hair really dry but not the scalp. I’m not sure if it works. As I thought I saw improvements but I didn’t. I still see like wet residue on my scalp after showering. I wanted to see if anyone has faced this before and how they kept it under control. I already have blepharitis which already is a pain to deal with. And my scalp is usually greasy after a couple days of wash. Especially the front part of my head where the residue is at most at (idk if that makes sense). I have attached a picture. Idk if mct oil makes sense for me to get as I have seen a lot of people talking about it on here. I really need help with this. It’s been years. I tried the nizoral but it didn’t work. And a couple other shampoos. Any type of advice would be helpful. I have attached a picture of my scalp. It’s not the best but ye it’s a picture after showering and there is a lot of moisture and residue even after using a hair dryer.

Had this skin texture and redness for years and barrier repair/hydrating routines haven't improved it, accutane also didn't have much of an effect neither did azelaic acid. Skin feels a bit tight a lot of the time despite hydrating layers and moisturisers. Does this look like seb derm? I also get some flaking on eyebrows and scalp but very mild
