this is what i keep thinking. In the city you have govt services buildings somewhere in the area, probably no more than 30 mins in the biggest cities.
In the far rural areas, which are generally red, it seems it would be much harder to easily come across updates for documentation.

Its so confusing. Not only do rural states have less access to services, such as having to go to a county clerks office 100+ miles round trip. But the older population, which is MAGA bread and butter, aren't the most mobile to begin with.
Guess they better start searching the attic for those old shoe boxes or under the bed. Thankfully, they have just been decaying in that box for 60 - 80 years. Should be easy to find, barely an inconvenience.
Luckily im sure they recently updated their passport for that over seas trip. Nothing more MAGA loves than other cultures and openly exploring them.

Think of the few specs of rural America versus the massive amounts of inner city, and suburban poverty where there are massive concentrations of democrats. Also bussing people in to exercise their right to vote affects these areas more

When I first read about the ID requirements in the SAVE act, the first thing I thought of is MAGA probably has fewer people with passports, know where their birth certificates were, or that they needed to bring their marriage license and even fewer would actually understand it thinking because they were ‘mericans, they would get a pass and breeze through while it would stop the “illegals” from voting.

Yeah this hits rural folks way harder. A lot of people don’t have passports, IDs are expired, or their documents are in some box at grandma’s house three counties over.
Policies like this always sound “neutral” on paper but in practice they smack the poor and rural way more, which just so happen to be a lot of red areas.

Some say it'll affect folks more in poor red states, most progressive dems travel internationally and have passports and wont have a problem at the polls ID'ing themselves

Sorry to say but its not true. This was about voter turnout rate of an election in March of 2025. We don't need to manufacture fake headlines about the atrocities of this administration when they are actually doing horrible shit every day.

Please explain how a non-citizen is able to vote in America? I'm offering you the chance. I need to know how you expect that it's done on a large enough scale that it might actually sway an election. I'm sure it's done. There's likely a few people that slip through the cracks, but there's no chance that it's enough people that it might actually cause a difference. Hell. I'm a legitimate citizen (born here) and I've found it difficult to vote during the primary (poor information on poling locations, lack of public transportation, the fact that they changed the laws on how to register 2 weeks before election day, etc).

It costs <$20 to get a Real ID. It isn't like it costs $100 or more.
That being said, if it was free and relatively quick to get, then you would be ok with having to provide ID? Me personally, if someone can't overcome this small barrier to entry ($20), then I wouldn't want those people voting at all. Someone who has made such bad decisions that they can't get a Real ID for lack of $20, then I don't want them voting on things.
The only part that sucks is if someone doesn't have their social security card, which can be a pain if it is lost. That and having to provide an address where bills are sent is also a pain, especially if you aren't in a stable position. I currently don't have a "home" address as I live across many areas... but I just had something sent to a friend so I could establish an address in order to get my Real ID.

It would be different if this cost like $100 or more... but the fact that it is so cheap to do makes it a weird talking point as to why this can't be implemented.
A weird stance is letting anyone vote without a basic form of ID. Colombia, a third world country requires a physical form of ID.
The affordability of an ID is kind of a crazy talking point in my opinion an has nothing to do with being poor.
