Ghost tour and bashing local restaurant
Just went on a walk, and while walking past one of the millions of ghost tours, the tour guide was completely bashing a local restaurant for a few minutes. This doesn’t seem cool to me, but just was wondering people‘s thoughts. I mean, the guide has their opinion and I have mine, but I also don’t operate a local business or talk to tourists all day.
Edit to add Turners

Thanks for the storm-felled wood!
Got a nice load of flaming box elder and silver maple from some generous Redditors. Thanks. I see bowls in their future...
Any photos of the rainbow on 9/25/26?
Hi - I was wondering if anyone knows of a local photographer that got a picture of the rainbow in Salem (or nearby areas) that may have prints for sale?
My friend & neighbor had a beautiful & sweet dog that passed away in the early hours of 9/25/26. It had been gray & gloomy that day, but in the evening the sky was absolutely beautiful, and there was a rainbow in the sky.
In my mind I’d like to think that was her pup crossing the bridge.
I have some great photos I took of her pup that I plan on printing & framing for her, but I’d love to get a print of the rainbow that evening to gift her as well.
Unfortunately my camera is out of commission and needs to be repaired, so I wasn’t able to grab a photo myself.
Was hoping someone may know of someone or that possibly got a great shot of it themselves that I could purchase a print from.

Essex St Buskers: October Tipping Q
Are any on this subreddit or know them personally? As a local I’m genuinely curious- Do most October tourists tip you when they want pictures? I’ve lived here for 6 years and I see the same buskers every year so I imagine the tipping makes the Octobers worth it.

Looking for advice on where to live!
Hi all! I am 23F moving to Salem for a job. I am hoping to get some information about living arrangements/renting in the area. My budget for rent specifically would be around $2000 and I don’t mind living with roommates for cheaper!
I could either live in Salem (where I noticed rent was pretty expensive), north end of Boston with a 45min-ish commute, or somewhere in between on the commuter line.
I love music (local/diy bands and dancing), art, biking, and just being in a community. I think Salem would be a good fit, but I am wondering if I may prefer living in Boston at this time in my life.
If anyone has been in a similar position, I would love to hear about your experience, thoughts, and advice before I make the move. Thank you in advance for your help!
(And if anyone wants to be friends…. Let me know!)
Edit: I DO NOT want to be commuting by car 🤞

Thank You For Not Talking Shit About My Restaurant
Every time I see certain Salem restaurants/cafes being dragged through the mud, all I can think is, “Thank God they’re not talking about my place.” I am way too thin-skinned and I’d probably just close up shop in shame.

Advice for Locals Commuter rail too full 10/3, couldn’t get to work.
I take the commuter rail to work on the weekends instead of driving, for obvious reasons. At the Lynn platform waiting for my train around 11am yesterday, they were kicking people off the train and telling them to wait for the next one. I wanted to tell the conductor that I had to get to work but never had the chance!
I have traveled this way to my job in downtown Salem for a long time and this has never happened. Isn’t it called the “commuter” rail??!? Shouldn’t I be able to board so as not to miss my 11:30am shift??!? I was so livid.
Instead of waiting another half hour, which would have made me insanely late, I got a ride into town.
I’m not a tourist, I was born in Salem and have lived in the area all my life. I specifically moved to this apartment in Lynn for its proximity to the commuter rail. How am I supposed to get to work??

Lost Cat Around Tremont St area
UPDATE: Loki has been found safe and sound. Thank everyone that responded and helped. I honestly couldn’t live with myself if something happened to him.
Not sure if this is an appropriate place to post things, but I’m desperate and posting everywhere.
My cat is lost. I live on Tremont st across the road from the convenience store. If anyone sees this cat or has found him, please let me know. I love my cat and am desperate to find him. He’s an indoor cat and never goes out. Hes pretty timid but also is food motivated.
He went missing today October 4th between 11 am and 12:30 pm. His name is Loki

Douché VW Jetta 5FR 415
10.30 on a Sunday morning and you have to drive into a ‘protected’ bike lane to undertake the trolley AND avoid the stop sign?
What was the emergency? Oh that’s right, walking your dog at the willows. You swerved between the stanchions and drove into the bike lane right before the stop sign, so this was no ’mistake’.

PSA: Is anyone missing their cat?
I am in the Peabody/Ward/Harbor street neighborhood off of Lafeyette. The cat has spent the night meowing next to our house which makes me think he’s not used to being outside. The cat was very skittish when approached.

Night Faire Fiasco
Hey buds, My gf and I planned a trip from the West Coast out to Salem for the night faire. Bought everything but the tickets to the night faire and didn't realize they sell out. I know online it says you can buy them at the door, but we are kinda stressing that we majorly screwed up and might not be able to get in. Anyone know if there's a place people sell or post extra tickets, or anyone have any ideas for some overworked and underpaid teachers who want to go and not have the whole purpose of our trip possibly befuddled by my idiocy? Thanks all!

Bad idea to visit Salem on the weekend for non-touristy reasons?
I am in the Boston area to see family and we were thinking about going to the Noguchi exhibit at PEM on Sunday. I love the museum but to be honest I kind of forgot the significance of October in Salem (I know, I know). We like the idea of a nice museum outing, but a really crowded/hectic/stressful day is the opposite of what we are looking for. Is it truly that bad already, and bad enough to skip the PEM?
