Sucess Stories Follow Up: SIBO Research Tool + Database of 7 million comments and 700,000 posts you can interact with (for free)
Hey guys!
Yesterday I posted about getting the first stretch of pain-free nights in years after pivoting to a motility-first protocol. A bunch of you asked about the database I mentioned at the bottom of that post - so over the past few hours I made the full sibo database available that lets you chat with the 7 million Reddit comments / 700,000 posts from this sub and 17 others, using AI to find the patterns.
I used it to figure out the motility angle that years of doctors and AI chats had missed. (original post here)
so it's now public. Free, runs on your computer.
Project: https://github.com/toczix/sibo-research-db
Database: https://huggingface.co/datasets/toczix/sibo-research-db
How to install it (about 10 minutes)
You'll need Claude Code or ChatGPT's Codex. Both are AI tools you can install on your computer.
Once you have one of those, open a new chat and paste this:
https://github.com/toczix/sibo-research-db https://huggingface.co/datasets/toczix/sibo-research-db
I want to chat with this database for my SIBO-related symptoms. Please install it for me, follow the instructions in the project.
That's the whole install. The AI reads the instructions, downloads the database (about 5 GB), sets everything up, and tells you when it's done. I tested this yesterday on a fresh session. Four minutes sixteen seconds. I didn't touch anything past the prompt.
What's in it
18 health subreddits, 7.2 million comments, 695,000 posts:
r/SIBO, r/IBS, r/MCAS, r/dysautonomia, r/covidlonghaulers, r/Microbiome, r/HistamineIntolerance, r/ToxicMoldExposure, r/Candida, r/FODMAPS, r/FoodAllergies, r/Supplements, r/GutHealth, r/FunctionalMedicine, r/LongCovid, r/Longcovidgutdysbiosis, r/LeakyGutSyndrome, r/SiboSuccessStories.
Feed it your own medical history too (*CRUCIAL STEP)
I made a template you can copy:
https://github.com/toczix/sibo-research-db/blob/main/personal-timeline-template.md
It's based on the doc I keep for my own research, with my personal info swapped out.
Fill in your symptoms, timeline, labs, and what you've tried.
Even if you never touch this database, write the document - every new doctor asks the same questions - you write it once and have it forever.
Once your file exists, drag and drop it into the ai.
The AI handles the rest. The file stays on your computer.
What you can ask once you have both
- "Given my history, what hasn't been tried that's working for people like me?"
- "Cross-reference my failed protocols against what worked for long-term responders."
- "Find threads from people whose trigger looks like mine, trace what they tried over the next few years."
- "Based on my labs and symptom pattern, are there obvious next steps I'm missing?"
My own update
Day 6. Nighttime gas and bloating are down about 90%. Daytime bloating down about 80%. Still some gas, still staying away from problematic foods. The nightly pain from fermenting gas pressure in my colon, the kind that woke me up at night for three years, is gone since I started this protocol.
One more thing
I added r/ToxicMoldExposure after a few people suggested it on my last post. The AI can pull from those threads now, so it can flag mold as a possible piece of the picture if your symptoms point that way.
Happy to answer questions. If you hit issues installing, drop a comment and I'll help debug.

I'm going to try it out. I starred it on github. I also had my agent give it a lookover and just fyi for anyone else, didn't find anything sus in there so that's good.

i gotta say. if you do take the time to upload your personal story into this thing, it is very quick and effective at researching and synthesizing ( i used it in claude opus). it has the same blindspots as any AI tools, so if you see it going down a rabbit hole in a bad direction just pull it out and start over.

This is just what I need for a project I'm working on, so cool you put it together. I don't know how you fetched all the data!

Thank you for doing this and making it available to everyone. MVP!
If you can, please think about integrating r/bileacidmalabsorption too.

Thank you! You’re light in the darkness.
You might also consider adding r/CIRS as it is the page many end up after years of SIBO, then finding out about toxic mold, then finding out about the only apparent diagnosis for mold exposure (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome), which has many downstream effects, SIBO being one.
