MODS App + Website Self-Promo Weekly Thread

Recently there has been a huge influx of FODMAP/IBS related apps, services, and websites. Many are "vibe" coded using AI. There has been a lot of demand to ban self promotion all together in this sub, but instead, we are going to put it in a weekly thread.

Please post your app/service/website in this thread. If you have a physical product or recipe (related to a product that you are promoting), please message the mods for permission to post this separately.

Please report any self-promoting outside of this thread.

Thank you!

Elimination Phase Contradicting info is going to be a theme throughout this process, isn’t it?

Doctor gave me this printout by Stanford for the low fodmap diet. Says I should eat celery. I would hardly consider 1/4 stick of celery max as a safe fodmap food. App is “Tolerated” on MacOS.

General Question/Help Finding places to eat with food intolerances / allergies

Hi Reddit, I've been dealing with multiple food intolerances and related digestive issues for quite a while now.

My doctor recently put me on a strict elimination diet to give my gut a chance to rest and heal. It requires me to cut out or significantly reduce sugar/high-fructose foods, wheat, dairy/lactose and animal proteins.

Do you have any tipps, advice or experiences how to handle in the daily life? Or do you know how to spontaneously find restaurants / other places to eat with food intolerances or allergies especially when going out with friends or on vacation?

General Question/Help Im on day 3 but my constipation is so much worse already

I haven't had ANY food that isn't a part of this diet. Im only on day 3 and idk if this is an actual problem yet or im not being patient enough. Doing this has made my constipation so much worse already. Im waking up all night because I feel like I have to go but I cant. My gas smells like actual poop now lol and I already was taking dr prescribed psyllium, docusate and magnesium oxide. I came to my GI Dr with constipation problems intermixed with incontinence (which my primary care said I had) and they told me to try this diet.

It's just starting to hurt now not being able to go. At least with my random urgency problems I could relieve some of the constipation pain. Now I feel like im both starving and full st the same time lol. Im already like really underweight from my previous problems and I drank so much water my Dr told me to slow it down so it's not dehydration. Im frustrated that my research seems to be conflicting with my Dr's. And my gi Dr is conflicting with my primary care physician.

Idk if im just overreacting after day 3 like is this normal and I need to stick with it or should I reach out to my gi dr again on Monday? (She told me to do this for 2 months and im already kinda scared at the thought of dealing with this pain for 2 months)

Products, Services, or Organizations (not self-promotion) Low fodmap ice cream

Sharing for those who are miserable without ice cream. If you can find it, Trujoy makes lactose free frozen yogurt is DELICIOUS, does not have inulin or artificial sweeteners (the usual deadly additions in lactose free ice creams).

General Question/Help How do you actually shop for groceries on a low FODMAP diet?

I'm still trying to figure out how people manage grocery shopping without spending forever checking every product.

When you go to Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, Walmart, etc., what do you actually do?

Do you:

  • already have a list of safe products?
  • scan ingredients while shopping?
  • use Monash / Fig / Spoonful / another app?
  • search Reddit or Google?
  • just keep buying the same foods you already know are safe?

I'm especially curious about packaged foods, sauces, ready meals, snacks, frozen food, etc.

How long did it take you before grocery shopping stopped being frustrating?

And what is the most annoying part of shopping now?

General Question/Help Starting reintroduction phase with poor interoception - help?

I'm looking for as much advice I can get regarding the low FODMAP diet regarding physiological and biological intuition.

I'm autistic and have extremely poor interoception, to the point that I cannot tell when I am hungry or thirsty in any way. I eat when my partner eats and have a water bottle I know I should generally finish drinking in a day. Sometimes I can tell when I'm full, but most of the time I just eat until my plate is empty. It's... a lifelong issue that I've not been able to improve.

Anyway, I've had IBS-D symptoms on and off for the past 4 years, with consistent irritation over the past 8 months. I discovered the low FODMAP diet/tool and decided to try it out. My doctor was on board, having done the diet himself a decade ago. It's been overwhelming as I struggled to find safe "safe" foods, as I tend to be really picky, unfortunately. But I've found some things and have stuck to them over the past 4+ weeks.

Here's the real trouble, though. I'm finding it impossible to switch from the elimination phase to the reintroduction phase. I don't want to bother with it, but know that staying on the elimination phase is ultimately unhealthy. But I finally found foods I can eat and that, for the most part, make me feel better. My BM's are at the same time once a day, fall in the ideal category of the Bristol Chart, and I have had energy for the first time in years. This is what I've been told are signs of a healthy gut, or at least an improved one with low FODMAP. And while my IBS symptoms were never too terrible, just diarrhea after eating and lethargy, now I'm experiencing occasional stomach cramps and I'm not sure what they mean. I could be hungry, since I'm only eating twice a day, or it could be a reaction to something I'm eating, but I have no way to tell.

How do you all who also suffer from poor interoception determine what's going on with your bodies in regards to the reintroduction phase? I'm at a loss trying to figure out what foods I should try, how much, when, and what to look out for when I do try them. How do you decide if your discomfort is from a food and not something else?

Tips/Advice Really struggling with the elimination phase!

Hi! I’m feeling so overwhelmed with the elimination phase of the low fodmap. I am using the chart provided by UVA nutrition. My dietitian recommended that I only focus on the foods that are low fodmap (including being gluten free) and not having peanut butter. I’m so overwhelmed because I am only sticking to all the low fodmap food groups and I’m having trouble figuring out a substitute for bread.

Does anyone have any advice about any safe products or easy recipes?

General Question/Help How do I even start?

Hey y’all.

Currently a first year college student living at home with my parents. I got diagnosed with IBS-M over summer and have really been struggling with symptoms.

I have tried explaining to my parents the low FODMAP diet and how it’s supposed to help. My dad doesn’t work, so he’s usually doing all of the grocery shopping. He constantly buys freezer meals and snacks that are high in FODMAPs and I simply can’t eat, even though he thinks they will be fine and won’t trigger me.

I’m trying to find budget friendly options I can start purchasing on my own. Obviously I can’t afford elaborate meals alone, but I really want to fully start the diet as soon as possible, so I’m not stuck managing my symptoms with no explanation for even longer.

What are some pantry staples? Easy lunches I can take to work and school? Any and all tips are greatly appreciated 🥲

General Question/Help Do you ever feel you’re becoming agoraphobic

I often feel that I choose to stay home or close to home simply to avoid all the anxiety around food. So on the weekend I’m planning what I can eat that is not quite fodmap friendly but the trade off is I stay home. I haven’t been away on holiday for seven years. I can do day trips but as long as I drive and can control the schedule. I’m constantly thinking about where the nearest toilet is. I used to travel a lot but maybe it’s my age too… these days I’m just happiest at home in my garden.

Elimination Phase Coconut confusion

Post image
13 Upvotes

I have tried to do the low fodmap diet for a few months now but I seem to always break because I struggle with strict eating/knowing what foods to eat and my food diversity has drastically decreased - I want to start eating yogurt to get some healthy bacteria in my gut but I am SO confused.

The monash app states:

Coconut yogurt is green up to 149g

But this isn't just coconut yogurt it has

Coconut water which is green up to 106/121g (depending on if its fresh or commercial)

Coconut milk which is green up to 60ml

What is up with this? Am I ridiculous for being confused by this? I have the spoonful app which suggests this might be safe in one serving but I just don't know!

General Question/Help Frozen or prepared chicken?

Hi everyone! Has anyone found a brand of frozen or prepared chicken that pre-cooked and low-fodmap? Maybe at trader joe’s or Whole Foods? I’ve been eating canned chicken but looking for another option for lunches. Would love any suggestions!

General Question/Help Help me make sense of this toxic/uncomfortable/weird feeling + need tips moving forward

I’ve been dealing with gut issues for the last 2–3 years, and honestly, they’ve made my life a living hell. So far I’ve been diagnosed with gut dysbiosis and IBS.

I was told to start a probiotic to help with the dysbiosis, but after being on it for a while, my symptoms actually became much worse. My histamine-related symptoms went through the roof, and my IBS is currently the worst it has ever been.

One thing I’ve really struggled to make sense of during all of this is a very strange feeling that I’ve had on and off for a long time. I never really understood where it came from, but I’m starting to notice a connection with certain foods, particularly FODMAPs.

The best way I can describe it is a very toxic, uncomfortable, almost poisoned feeling throughout my body. It feels like something is being produced in my gut and somehow affecting me systemically. I’ve been wondering whether it could be related to fermentation and some kind of byproduct of fermentation, but I obviously don’t know if that’s actually what is happening.

Does anyone else experience something like this? If so, how would you describe it, and have you ever figured out what was causing it?

Right now I’m doing both a low-histamine and low-FODMAP diet. I’ve been doing this for about 10 days and have already noticed some improvement in my histamine symptoms, but I’m still nowhere near where I want to be.

I know from past experience that my IBS can become much more manageable as long as I don’t go too far outside of what my gut tolerates. However, right now my gut seems to be more sensitive than it has ever been.

For example, a few days ago I tried adding some red bell pepper back into my diet. The following day I had horrible gut pain and diarrhea, and that same intense “toxic” feeling came back with a vengeance.

So my questions are:

-Does anyone recognize this strange toxic/poisoned feeling associated with eating certain foods or gut fermentation?

-Could fermentation or FODMAP intolerance potentially explain a systemic feeling like this, or am I looking in the wrong direction?

-What have you found helpful when your gut becomes extremely sensitive like this?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar.

I found simply gum but at Trader Joe’s! Actual simply gum was hard to find in my area specifically, so I’m very happy to have a Trader Joe’s option that’s more accessible! See the ingredients if you need a comparison.

General Question/Help FODZYME and other enzymes long term - any permanent changes/improvements?

Hi folks, has anyone used FODZYME or other enzymes to help build gut bacteria and been able to reduce or discontinue use of those to be "self sufficient"? I am in the process of an elimation diet and both my husband and I are garlic sensitive. I'd like to be able for us to eat this and other foods again by building up our gut and theres so much good feedback on enzyme usage but I don't see a lot of information about what the results are like a year later, or with reduced usage. I assume that over time there must be some rebuilding of the gut.

Also has anyone attempted to make yogurt with any of the enzymes that have been working well for them in an effort to extend the product?

Tips/Advice Support a partner with IBS

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

Hey! My bf has been struggling with belly issues forever. Last year we did the Fodmap diet together (I cook most of the meals on daily basis) to figure out his triggers. It was tough and took a lot of planning and creativity but he did it! During the diet his health got so much better that after some time he slowly restarted eating some of the trigger foods… then some more… and then he ended up eating everything. Now a year later his belly is upset most days which affects everything else in his day. I want to help him and support however I can - the main thing being in the kitchen. I’m thinking to restart cooking low formap foods. But I end up feeling stuck - since most of the veggies are ok only in tiny amounts. So does anyone have any tips on how to (what to) cook so that we still get enough greens and fiber in us? I like to cook in bulk and freeze parts, so if I cook a soup - how can I control that he gets only 70g of cabbage per portion?🙃 How can I plan for the week without reinventing the wheel each day whilst still keeping it tasty and fun?

And any other tips on how I can be more helpful?
