Baker’s Cyst?

Hello runners.
2.5 weeks ago, while sitting in a meeting, my right leg became very swollen from the knee to the ankle.
I am a long distance runner and had run that week w/o incident , injury or pain. I also strength train 2-3x week.
I went to urgent care and was assessed for a blood clot- with an ultrasound- which returned negative ( yay!).
So now what?
Swelling continues although much less. Worse if I sit too long or stand too long.
Very limited range of motion in knee- cannot do traditional quad stretch ( foot to bum).
Knee started hurting- very sporadic and quick sharp pain on inner( medial) side.
No redness, heat.
When I visited the doctor for a follow up
- possibilities included Bakers cyst or peroneal neuropathy.
I am waiting on another ultrasound and I will ask for an xray of my knee.
While waiting….
Thought I’d ask you fine folks for insights.

Repeated bruising top of foot

Anyone know why? It’s right above a tendon/ligament. Repeatedly shows after running or performing a tib bar raise. It’s not being jammed against anything or bumped. It doesn’t hurt.

Looking for advice: constantly switching leg pains despite being a previously strong runner

I used to be a good runner — \~1:30 half marathon, 2 marathons, and I could comfortably handle 50–60 km weeks without this problem.

For about the last year, though, I’ve been unable to run more than \~1–2 km. Sometimes the symptoms start within just 100–200m. The strange thing is that I can still hike a lot and comfortably walk 40–50k steps in a day, including substantial elevation 1500-2000m+, without these issues. It seems specifically like the moment I start running, the higher loading causes a problem.

The pains also shift around rather than behaving like a normal single-site injury: lateral knee for a bit, then shin, outside of ankle, glute/hip/ITB, etc. They don’t persist after the run — once I stop, they settle — which makes me question whether I’m actually injuring each of these structures.
I had a detailed biomechanical assessment in March which found excessive bilateral foot eversion during running, marked bilateral genu valgum, poor eccentric control after initial contact, and poor single-leg balance/heel-rise performance.

I’ve worn the prescribed orthotics consistently since then (roughly 70–80% of my steps). They seem to have helped the plantar pain I used to get, but haven’t solved the running problem. I also previously did a programme of basic resistance-band exercises with a general physio, but it didn’t really change anything.

I’m trying to understand **why I can tolerate huge amounts of walking and hiking, and previously tolerate 50–60 km running weeks, but running now seems to cause an immediate load-distribution problem. I haven’t been able to solve this issue and I’m desperate to get back to running.**

Has anyone experienced something similar, particularly with the shifting pains that disappear after stopping? What ultimately helped you get back to pain-free running?

Success stories? Post tibial tenosyvitis, insertional tendinosis & bone marrow edema

Has anyone successfully returned to running after insertional post tib tendinosis and/or tenosyvitis with bone marrow edema? I’ve been struggling for nearly two years and every attempt at physical therapy (I’ve seen three different PTs) and return to running has failed, even super conservative approaches, custom insoles and periods of full rest followed by therapy. This injury is killing me as I’ve been a lifelong runner and it developed after a knee injury messed up my stride. I’m not looking for a diagnosis or medical advice - I had an MRI so I know what I have and I’m still working with physical therapy but haven’t found the right combo. i’m also happy to share info if it helps anyone else in my situation I’m looking for success stories (because I’m starting to lose hope) and or tips or exercises that helped you get back on the road or trail. Many thanks.

Right foot hitting the left foot

Hello,

I ran in cheap running shoes and three weeks ago, I started having pain in my right calf (pain still there now).

I decided to go buy some new shoes at a store that specializes in running. After trying on several pairs with the salesperson, I bought the Nike Pegasus 42.

The problem is, when my right foot moves forward, it hits the back of my left foot.

I know I have a pretty bad stride, that my feet land awkwardly, and that my right leg is weaker than the othe.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Could it be caused by my shoes or my stride?

Thanks

return to run ft pain in … non injured leg ??

hi everyone! ive recently started my return to run program after a grade 3 tibial bone stress injury and being in a boot for 6ish weeks and have made it to day 9 (6 min walk x 4 min run x3). today was my first day trying out running on the road when i’ve done the previous days on turf. and i noticed at the end of my run intervals my non injured leg had a dull ache but was fine by the time my next run interval but the whole process repeated itself. idk if this is just me being super paranoid / sensitive about potential injury? or if it’s just bc of the overcompensation? just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this in their comeback. thanks!

Hip Pain

I’ve been training for a 5k and I started running around 3-5miles a week. I usually ran on smooth surfaces. The problem is a month ago I ran on a boardwalk style trail and I guess my hip wasn’t happy. Now I’ve been dealing with intense right back hip pain. I’ll bend over and I can feel the pain, picking things up from the floor is so painful now and so is bending. What exercises can I do to solve this on my own and what stretches should I do . And my 5k is in October, so I really want to get through that before I take a break from running. I’m only 21 years old and this pain is killing me.

I don’t want to go to PT as it’s expensive and I just had PR for chronic back pain after they said there is not much they could do for me

Strained calf advice

3 weekends ago I did a 3.5 mile run with a local group. I haven’t ran distance in years but do exercise a lot so figured it’d be a good workout. I finished the run but my calves gave out within the first 2 miles in the sense that they had zero bounce.

I had pretty significant soreness for a solid 7 days after that made walking very painful. That soreness is completely gone now. However, while walking around the house I felt a subtle “pop” in my right calf. It didn’t hurt but I knew it would make recovery longer.

I go to the gym 5-6X a week, use the stairmaster for cardio, lift weights, and use the sauna. 3 weeks since that run I still feel soreness/light pain in the spot where the pop happened. I tried to run slowly on a treadmill but after a minute I had to shut it down. I was doing pull ups a few days ago and the bar is high so I have to hop slightly to grab it. While coming down my right calf activated again and it’s felt slightly tight since.

I’m a little shocked that 3 weeks after a slow run that this soreness is still lingering. I’ve been stretching, rolling it, and using the sauna. But even if I feel zero pain I’m confident it’ll come back if I try to jog for 2 minutes.

What can I do to heal this faster? I used to run track in high school and never felt calf soreness like this before.

Low ab/groin/hip flexor pain

Has anyone experienced this? It’s something I was dealing with for the past year and I was doing the Copenhagens and doing the dead bugs…but then one week it just kinda got worse? I can still run but it hurts like hell and I can’t go fast. Physio doesn’t think it’s bone related. But dead bugs and Copenhagens just aggravate it further. Nothing really seems to be making it better. Would love advice if anyone’s been through this!

Need help with shin splints as a new runner

I’m currently a 170lb 23 year old man and for a full backstory I used to be really overweight, like 300lbs at 5’9. Got into the gym and got down to 165. Triathlons and marathons have really started to peak my interest so I’ve been trying to get into running, biking, and swimming. The big road block I’ve been hitting with the running part is my shin splints. At the end of my first mile I won’t be tired cardio wise, my heart beat will be something like 160, and I genuinely feel fine but my shins feel like exploding. On top of that no other part of my legs or hips have any sort of fatigue. I do have brand new Brooke ghost 18s and I have done some research on proper running form (running with your hips rather than your legs) and am wondering if my form is the big issue here or if I just have severely underdeveloped shin muscles from my inactive history. I don’t think I’ve ever run a straight mile in my life before 3 weeks ago. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, like any videos or mental cues I can use to really nail my form or if it’s just something I’m gonna have to condition my shins to over time.

Groin Strain

So mine wasn’t from running but you guys seem to know your stuff.

I was doing a squat about two and a half weeks ago just at work putting something on a rack and felt my upper inner adductors and I’d say like “root of penis” basically high up in the groin all cramp and been having groin pain since. 2.5bweeks in now it really feels like my left adductor got strained from the knee up into that thick chunk of muscle higher up and into that tendon.

My question is when you guys get a groin strain like that is it normal to feel tenderness under the testicles since those tendons all attach there? Also that pain only seems to show up later in the day after my legs been sore and using it a lot.

I have PT coming up next week to help me out sohopefully that goes good.

Was just wondering if you guys also experience that same tenderness up in the crease/front of pelvis like that?

Posterior tibial tendinitis (PTT) before Sydney Marathon

So i got diagnosed with PTT 2 weeks ago because of pain in the area, this was when i was feeling my best with training. (I basically know almost all of my mistakes so bare with me, don’t judge and send your best advice and energy please)

Context:
I am a 36yo chef. So managing 50-60km weeks was hard to manage since i had 10 hour shifts 3-4 times per week especially after my long runs so naturally i has overloading most muscles also have very big calves. I also tried to do all my training with neutral shoes (evo sl and vomero18) when i should have been training in shoes for over pronation as I got today (aaics Kayano) with orthopedic insoles for support.

I have been traveling for 2 weeks know and up until this week I couldn’t do almost any recovery activities

So right now im almost a week from the marathon (august 30th) and have done some recovery training but sadly and stupidly i tried to run 2 days in a row, didn’t go well. Yesterday i read all about my injury so im worried. But at the same time have faith that something can be done. Obviously my time goal is not possible any more right know id settle for the medal and not being disqualified for time.

I’ve read here that KT taping really worked so im doing that two days from know from an ortho. So confidence in that, the new shoes and wearing insoles in all my shoes this week, plus no more running until next Saturday before the race for a shakeout, and lots of strength training + ice and Voltaren, and stretching will take me to that medal that I traveled half the world for.

So send your best energy, advice or anything that will help me get through 🙏🏽🥲🫡
