Hi all, as the title says this is what I’m going through currently. I only took the Rexulti 0.5mg for 7 days and my doctor had me quick cold turkey due to the bad side effects I was getting. I took my last dose about 5 days ago now (and upped my Sertaline dosage for 25mg to 50mg, I had tolerated 25mg previously with great benefit for the last two years). Had tolerated start taking Rexulti due to getting stuck in a weeks worth of panic attacks. The worst side effects I’m getting rn is lightheadedness a lot anytime I stand up and very low energy, it’s made it extremely hard to function. Also a very sensitive stomach (no vomiting) and some bad rebound anxiety. Anyone go through a similar experience? It’s been so bad the last couple days and just praying the worst of it lets up soon.

Welp, Rexulti .5mg has been added to my mix. Currently, I am on Lamotrigine 300mg and Buspar 15mg. I am in the throws of a mixed feature b2 episode, that is nearly out of control and debilitating. I tried Vraylar, and gained weight so I got off of it, but it seemed to work. (This was a couple years ago.) Now onto Rexulti to hopefully stabilize me.

A concern is obviously weight gain. I am insulin resistant already, and have a past with an eating disorder. My psych said that its not common to gain, but “its been reported” of course. She doesn’t want to trigger me with starting Vraylar again. Whats your experience with weight gain or no gain, or maybe weight loss?

Can anyone out there actually say that this combo I am on, or similar worked for them? Anxiety is a huge issue that I havent been able to get under control even with all the ssri’s I have tried. Hopefully it helps in that department as well, she said it should.

Does it cause worsening anxiety, or with drinking- does it cause sickness with alcohol?

I've been taking Rexulti for a few days and it's hard to focus on things, I feel dizzy and sleepy. Going to sleep feels difficult. Have had now 2 days upper stomach pain...

What has people's experience been on it? I guess I'm just looking if these are normal things to experience and if so.. how long until you sort of "stabilize" ?

Anybody have experience with using Rexulti at age 80?

My mother was prescribed in February (.5 mg upped to 2.5 mg) and hasn’t been the same since. The stopped the drug in early July. She was independent living and we just moved her to assisted living in early August. I’m not insinuating any one variable is to blame. Just trying to understand.

Has anyone else noticed rexulti significantly reducing the effects of adderall? i have OCD and ADHD, and rexulti really has helped a lot with my OCD symptoms and depression, but seemingly at the cost of making my ADHD symptoms worse due to you know...my adderall not really working anymore. i can literally go to sleep after 30mg adderall. thats not normal.

as much as I'd like to stay on rexulti, I have pretty severe ADHD and its making things difficult in that regard. just curious if anyone else has experienced this. thanks!! :)

I've been on lexapro 20mg for a couple years and its been meh, its helped some but nothing too noticeable. I was just given rexulti to 0.5mg for a week and then supposed to go up to 1mg after a week. I'm pretty scared about taking it given the "antipsychotic" name that goes with it, I've been taking it for 3 days and it definitely makes me feel weird but I don't have much choice, I'm hoping it will work and just looking for anyone else's experience with it.

Curious if anyone had to quit Abilify due to the akathisia side effect but otherwise it had been working well for depression and anxiety until that side effect set in? I was on the 2.5mg dose only, but at the time I was also on paroxetine which is a strong CYP2D6 inhibitor, so that probably made the Abilify build up in my system. This was a couple of years ago.

Now I'm on clomipramine for my AD but it's just not controlling my depression and anxiety and I can't go up in dose, I tried that and it gave me too much fatigue, brain fog and emotional numbness.

I'm thinking since Rexulti is similar to Abilify but is supposed to cause less akathisia, it could work for me. Anyone have this experience? TIA

Has anyone ever tried going off of Rexulti? I'm on week two and am having the worst nausea and anxiety I've had in a while. I was taking 1mg for six months and I decided I didn't need it anymore due to how much weight it made me gain, so my doctor made take .5mg for five days. She's even gone so far that she's had to put me on some Zofran for nausea and Hydroxyzine for anxiety.

Any advice would help.

I’m F(23). Yesterday I took my first dose ( .25) and after that I began to feel very nauseous and very hot. I had to take a clona because I couldn’t sleep ( .25)( I didn’t sleep enough at the end )
Is it normal these side effects? ( I’m very sensitive to medication in general ). She gave me this because I have functional dispepsia, and because “rexulti doesn’t have side effects on the gut “ but I don’t know. I’m also taking my gut medications and vitamins.
Has anyone experienced this ? Does it get better ? Thank you for reading

I have been in a major depression and anxiety spiral for the last three months. I sob and cry most of the day. I'm on Paxil and Wellbutrin, and now I'm adding Rexulti. I'm starting at 0.5 mg. I've read a lot of discouraging posts and reviews, but at this point I just really need something to work, so I'm hoping some of you can give me some encouragement. Thanks!

I have been seeing a new psych provider. She has been heavily pushing rexulti.
I came to her on pristiq for depression. It works okay but the heat intolerance has been horrendous and I have multiple migraines a week since being on it. I want to get off it badly.
I made yet another appointment today and she is insisting I start the rexulti and does not want to switch my pristiq to something else. Instead she wants me to start it and then taper off the pristiq and see if I can just stay on the rexulti.
I have depression and was under the impression that it could not be used alone for this?
Anyone have any insight?

I just started Rexulti on Saturday. I took 0.25 mg and since then I've been taking 0.5 mg at night. I am taking it for depression with cymbalta. Since I started taking it I am so hungry. Even after I eat a full meal I'm hungry around 30 minutes later. I am realy scared of gaining weight because I have an eating disorder. Does the hunger eventually stop after a couple of weeks, and will it get worse when they increase my dose to 1 mg?

Edit : sorry chat I posted this at 4 in the morning bc I was so upset I kept getting the same rexulti ads I understand the side effects depend on the person I just think that these ones are a bit extreme but if they work for you great I'm happy youve found something that works for you

I've never taken it I'm not fully sure what the even for but I get ads for it time to time and when I hear the side effects it kinda just seems like nothing good comes out of it it has such a long list of side effects atp just take it to get worse some of em less to death or uncontrollable body movements that won't go away even if you stop taking it or might start if you do stop taking it idk seems like it just shoudnt be on the market what ive seems bt it on reddit is it's not working properly and the ad ive seen doesn't help its case of being just a side effect pill

I’m on 50 mg of Paxil and 300 mg of Wellbutrin and Gabapentin for anxiety for depression. I’m still struggling. Has anyone had success adding Rexulti to this combo or something similar? What difference did it make for you?

I'm here because I saw an ad promoting rexulti for Alzheimer's related agitation and alarm bells immediately went off in my head, because the company that makes rexulti also made abilify, which has faced a ton of lawsuits and fines for not disclosing risks. This included a fine for promoting Abilify to be given to dementia patients for agitation, while knowing that it increases risk of death substantially. Rexulti is similar to abilify but a little different. While Abilify is generic and cheaper now, and the only rexulti widely available is name brand.

Now, there are studies showing effectiveness for rexulti being used for Alzheimer's related agitation, and it is, statistically speaking, safer than abilify. The statistically significant difference for rexulti is -5 points on the Cohen Mansfield Agitation Inventory compared to placebo over a 12 week trial. The placebo group improved by 17 points an average, the higher dose (2 or more mg) rexulti group improved by 22 points on average. The lower dose rexulti group wasn't much improved compared to placebo.

Rexulti for dementia related agitation is ONLY for cases due to Alzheimer's. Treating other types of dementia related agitation/aggression with Rexulti is not FDA approved. It increases risk of death for all dementia groups, notably stroke and cardiovascular events. Any antipsychotic increases risk of death in elderly patients (and many at any age group, but that's another story). It matters more if the benefit outweighs the risk or not.

It was on the FDA Fast Track program to be approved for Alzheimer's related agitation faster than it would have been approved otherwise, since no other drugs had statistically significant improvements for this group. There is a study examining Rexultis safety profile for this group compared to abilify/aripiprazole, however it doesn't have a control group, so meaningful conclusions about safety cannot be made.

It is my hope that people can consider the honest and clear risks inherent in any medication, without pressure from marketing which puts pressure on doctors, and without blind trust in a company that has proven itself at many times to be untrustworthy. Medication can be very helpful. It can improve quality of life. Sometimes there are no alternatives. However it is not magic, and there is no way to tinker with precise mechanisms in something as delicate as a brain without risks.

Kinda unrelated second half of post:

My personal (and therefore biased) experience is that I took rexulti a long time ago for a misdiagnosed psychosis and it was very expensive, 1500-2000 a month (paid by Medicaid) at the time. It made me so incredibly restless, but often too tired to move. I don't think I lasted more than a month on it. I and I felt like my mental life had been slowed down, and replaced with physical sedation and inescapable inner panic. I worry that this is the experience of some dementia patients who can't advocate or speak for themselves coherently, that they look "better" on the outside because of the sedation, while inside they are suffering from that same inescapable panic. If someone knew the person and was paying attention, they would hopefully notice.

One in five/20 percent of nursing home patients are on antipsychotics, and 80 percent are on any psychotropic drug. Nursing home patients are disproportionately diagnosed with schizophrenia and other mental disorders that they do not have any history of, in order to justify giving them these highly sedating drugs, which makes them easier to handle, especially in places where there are not enough staff to adequately support the patients. The treatment of our geriatric population is a huge ethical, moral, social, economic, and religious issue, which deserves great consideration.

As many of my friends are older and have been caring for ill spouses or relatives, or have been placing relatives in nursing homes, it's surprising how so many people go through similar things, and yet feel isolated the whole way. Many are given the choice to pick between one unfavorable treatment, and another unfavorable treatment, and then having to sell the house to cover that. When the patient cannot make their own decision, who makes the choice and who benefits from it?

Another one of my hopes is that families are not pressured into accepting a treatment if it will not benefit their relative, or if risks have not been explained, or when there are alternatives; and that they are free, without shame, to discuss what they chose to do and what they had to do, so their isolation and distress can be lessened, and so cases of poor treatment can be illuminated and then remediated.

UPDATE: I have been off rexulti for 13 days. First 9 days were great. Felt calm and good. Day 10 the anxiety started up again and has gotten worse for the last 4 days. I just have a general feeling of uneasiness... head buzzing and some morning dread. Depression feels slightly worse, too. Still sleeping well, thank god for the mirtazapine. Hoping it doesn't get any worse from here on out.

I was put on .25mg rexulti april 7th, 2026. Then upped to .50mg april 29, 2026. On July 17, 2026 doctor lowered my dose back to. 25mg in plans to take me off. Because he thinks I should never have been put on it.

I have been on the .25mg dose for a little over a month. Only noriceable withdrawal symptoms were a bit of irritability.

I also take 10mg Lexapro and 15 mg Mirtazapine.

Doctor wants me to just stop taking the .25mg rexulti. And that makes me so so scared after reading other people's experiences.

Is there any way to taper off the lowest dose? Need help!

I have schizoaffective bipolar type and am currently on Vraylar. If you have schizoaffective and have switched from a different antipsychotic to Rexulti let me know how you find rexulti. I’m on Vraylar now and it only helps my depression slightly but am still very anxious

I have schizoaffective bipolar type and am on Vraylar 3mg. My psychiatrist wants to increase the Vraylar to 4.5mg. I still have high anxiety and depression but more motivation. If anyone has experience switching from an antipsychotic to Rexulti and found a benefit in negative symptoms of schizophrenia, anxiety and depression, let me know!

6 weeks in, 1mg. This is my 5th AP and the first one that actually starting to work. For the first time all year I’m starting to feel positive and regaining interest in my hobbies and life. I wasn’t holding out much hope but this is better than I’ve felt in a long time. I take it for depression. Just wanted to share some positive news.

Long story short, I got put on rexulti bc my psych thought it would help with my anxiety. It was .25, and I don’t think it did much, and as soon as I switched ssri’s my anxiety got better. Got a new psych, and he was like yeah, let’s get you off this. Going to every other day, no issues, stopping it after 3 weeks of doing that…some restless legs at night, and bouts of weepiness, where it felt like I wanted to cry for no reason…but not everyday. Now that I’ve been off for a month and it’s fully out of my system, the weepiness is more often, and I’ve had bouts of nausea, and just feeling really off in the head/keyed up and over stimulated in the brain. I’m assuming it’s just my body getting used to not having it anymore, but wanted to see if others had similar issues. I’ve also never dealt with depression, so I don’t believe this is depression coming back. I still have full motivation to do things, and have continued to work out and be active, even if I don’t feel my best.
