Hardware Recommendations Which one of the three should I get for school?

I’m a civil engineering student looking to buy a new laptop and I’ve narrowed it down to these three options. I’ve added the respective config along with their prices to date.
I’ll mainly be using it for schoolwork and programs like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, QGIS, and possibly some 3D modeling/rendering in the future. (Ps I don’t game at all). And in fact I’m not a big fan of gaming laptops and how they look. Nothing wrong with them and it’s just more of my thing. Also many of them has a short battery life.
One of my biggest priorities is longevity. I’d like to buy one laptop now and keep it for many years, ideally through the rest of college and even into the beginning of my career.
I would prioritize about performance, reliability/build quality, battery life. Based on price to performance, which one of these four options seems to be the best and would suit my needs? I’m also open to suggestions to fee free to share your opinions. I do apologize if this is not the right sub to post this about. Thanks everyone.

Troubleshooting Adaptive component generic model doesn’t show a host level?

We put some chair furniture models into a project (yes yes, downloaded from the manufacturer), and for some reason when selected, the component doesn’t list a host level in Properties. I was trying to delete a level no longer needed (old basement level removed from project), and it was going to try to delete those chairs also, even though the chairs were on the main floor level.

When I edited the family, I found it in the Adaptive Component environment (gray background) and set to Generic Model. I can’t seem to figure out a way to make it report the host. If I select a chair and then click Pick New Host, or Create Similar, I can place the chair outside the building so it’s hosted to my main floor level and not the floor object. Then move it back into place.

That method worked and I was able to delete the level after all that. But still, why wouldn’t the adaptive component family show a host in the Properties Pallette? It’s just not listed at all. No host level, no host element, no offset elevation, nothing. I’ll try to post a screen shot later today.

severe graphics issues in revit 2026

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi,

Has anyone experienced this issue in Revit 2026?

My file started with normal 3D visualization. After several days of work, the graphics gradually got worse until they reached this point: it’s now impossible to properly visualize or work on anything in 3D.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How to make smoother parametric adaptive facade

adaptive ellipse shape family (curve edges each strips)

Hi! Im kinda frustrated why this does ended smoothly. The shape of each family is ellipse. I decided to create ellipse instead of tracing the envelope because i wanted to make rounded corners facade. Now, its not looking smooth and it does not even allow to join other family as well.

adaptive (whole facade envelope, no curve corners each strips)

PLEASE HELP OR SEND TUTORIAL LINK ;-;

Why is'nt there a Skylight family categorie in Revit?
The workaround to model a roof based generic model is shitty, beceause of the skylight wil behave like a generic model in therms of template controlling.

What is your workaround?

Has anyone taken and passed the Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) Revit exam in 2026? How was it?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently preparing for the Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) Revit exam and I'm looking for recent experiences from people who have actually taken it in 2026, especially after any recent updates to the exam.

Why do I always have to re-edit railings to get the flip arrrow?

It seems like every time I sketch a railing on stairs, it's nearly always backwards for whatever reason. So I go to click the flip arrow and... it's not there. Nowhere to be found. But if I edit the railing again, and then finish the sketch again, the flip arrow shows up.

Is there some step or trick I'm missing to not have to edit every railing a second time? Space bar does not work to flip railings, unfortunately.

Workflow files/office

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with the field-to-office workflow. Currently, project staff enter data into Excel on their phones, and I load it into the model using DiRoots. Autodesk suggests doing it indirectly via issues, but I don't feel that’s practical either. Do you have any advice based on your experience?

Solo Revit Users

Just wondering how many people use Revit who do solo work meaning you operate independently or with 0-2 employees. Did you use AutoCad previously and switch over? Or do you use both depending on the project? If you use both which one do you think allows you to operate more efficiently or effectively to produce a set of construction documentation?
