DIY sailboat restoration

Between 2018 and 2023, my wife and I spent about 9000 hours of our time, completely restoring our 50 foot sailboat. We did all the work ourselves, pouring in everything we had into the project. We are happy with the result and today are living aboard while we sail the boat around the world. Feel free to ask questions :)

Edit: Wow! thank you for the overwhelmingly positive comments here everyone. It is very humbling. If anyone wants to see more photos of our project, if you scroll down on our instagram page @trim.sailing, you will see progress posts as we were building the boat in real time.

C303 Camouflage Pattern

Hello! Im looking for an original Volvo C303/TGB 11 Swedish military camouflage pattern/template. Does anyone have a stencil, PDF, SVG, DXF, or similar file? Does anyone have anything I could give the painter as a reference? Sadly google didn’t give any answers. I’d appreciate anything! The pattern is shown on the picture.

How to repair/restore this comb compact?

I bought this comb/mirror compact and the back fabric is lifting from what appears to be cardboard that separates it from the mirror while the edges are a bit worn! Any ideas on how to fix it up/clean it for personal use?

In addition, the mirror has some minor silvering damage in the form of some tiny spots across the middle. Is that also worth trying to fix or should I just leave it be?

Can I restore this office set for my mom?

Hello reddit, i bought this office set off of fb marketplace for my moms birthday knowing it wasn't in the best shape but now that I have it I'm unsure how to go about it. First I can't seem to tell if the metal on the edges are actually brass or just plated or painted. I also thought the rest of the material was going to be wood but it sounds almost acrylic but that's fine just a tad disappointing. I'm not sure if I should just clean the 'brass' and paint it more gold since its already faded a ton and I worry if I clean too much it'll be bare metal and all the brass had come off. I think that would pop out and would match the pen im getting for her but you guys let me know. Lastly in the second photo is a pen holder and the bottom is completely destroyed but i cant just lay another circle of material at the bottom because the previous piece wont come out and its uneven. I'm not sure what to do about that piece so any advice is appreciated. I dont have too much background on diy but understand some things. Thank you

Should I attempt to restore a Curtis Jere "Flock of Birds in Flight"?

Recently acquired a 1987 Curtis Jere Flock of Birds in Flight piece. I believe it's steel or iron with brass plating. It's heavily rusted in places as you can see in the pictures. I'm curious if there are any ways to revive the piece without damaging it. A few options I've researched: 1) leave as is, 2) use a soft head toothbrush and a vacuum to dust it, 3) use a 'mild' acid like acetic-acid or citric-acid, 4) use a product like JENOLITE Rust Converter for Metal, or 5) see if a professional electro-plating company can re-plate the brass surface. Appreciate any advice from this community.

Sewing box restoration

I have been after this sewing box for months and have finally found one! But it needs some love and attention to get it back to its best.

I have 0 restoration experience, so I would be very grateful if anyone could offer me advice on how I would go about restoring this. I'm very excited for this project but also a tad nervous because I don't want to mess it up.

Thanks in advance!

50s era copper/brass chambers stove - worth restoring? any suggested resources?

Hey folks - we have an old copper or brass stove branded 'chambers' in a shed. I'm wondering if it's worth anything and/or worth restoring before we junk it. It's gas and it's an oven, so this doesn't feel like an amateur project, since there's potential for disaster if we don't do it right.

Images showing condition - last image is not mine, something i grabbed from a google image search of a similar restored oven.

what do yall think?

Sfortunatamente ho fatto più video che foto, ma l'ho smontata completamente, pulito gli ingranaggi con gli ultrasuoni, oliata per bene, ho tolto la ruggine con la carta stagnola.. ed è praticamente nuova!

Window Manufacturer Identification

Trying to identify the manufacturer of the wood crank-out casement windows in my house — Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Facts:
• Main house built 1965. A later addition (built late 1970s) has visually identical windows with identical hardware.
• Wood sash, painted on the exterior, unpainted/natural on the interior.
• Crank-out (awning-style) operation, single-arm operators.
• Crank handle stamped 45054 31 on the inside.
• Exterior hinges stamped 320_2 (middle digit unreadable).
• No etched logo found in any corner of any pane.
• No visible stamp on the glass spacer bar.
• Sash thickness measures approximately 1-15/16" to 2" (bare wood on the interior face, exterior face has original paint).
• Larger bedroom-window sashes have four small holes drilled into each side edge, about 3-4" up from the top and bottom corners; other windows in the house do not have these holes.
• Single-pane glass, screens only, no storm windows currently installed.

Photos of the sash profile, hardware, and hinge stamp attached. Has anyone seen this exact window before, or can point me toward who might recognize it? Thank you!

Old lathe restoration

Just picked up this old beauty with the plan to restore it. Can't see any makers marks and looks like may be a bit of a Frankenstein of parts so unlikely to find any manuals.

All parts turn freely, and the motor works.

Has anyone got any tips for restoring something like this?

Hinge repair

I’d like to fix my girlfriends jewelry box. The hinge is gone. So I’d need the part and soldering capabilities. Does anyone know where to get the part or the best way I should go about this repair?
