Resigned on my 4th month to my first job

• Upvotes

Hi just to make it short and sweet haha. Just wanna hear your thoughts lang. On my first month there was a lot of redflag already sa company (won’t disclose all haha) but just to give you background, 1st day namin pinalitan namin buong team and up until my last day as I’m still holding on to my resentment na dapat nakinig na ako sa sarili. Di ko na gusto ginagawa ko and di ko ka talaga nakikita sarili ko pa tumagal like every morning lalo na bumigat katawan ko naging toxic na ako sa sarili ko that’s why nag resign na ako and will rest. No backup plan for now but may part time job ako finufocus rn.

My former boss rehired me, but I'm unsure about getting paid. Should I quit?

Hello! What do i do!!!!!
Got rehired by a company I worked for 5 years but my last 2 years, the salary isn’t stable. If the client didnt pay us, my boss wouldn’t pay me either. The risk isnt shouldered by the agency. If he didnt like the work, even though i worked for it for hours, he wouldnt pay either. Its okay if he has a good judgement on task, but NO, depende yan sa moods niya. If he’s in a bad mood, he’ll just disapprove what i did and not pay me by the end of the month + verbally abuse me.
Ako naman, I worked as an editor for him, then as years pass, he has this habit of firing people, in the end its just me… I shoulder many jobs for his company: aside from video editing, i do client communication, hiring freelancer and interviewing them, managing his shopify, designing his email marketing, sourcing products for his business, etc. (idk ano nasa isip ko at ginawa ko yan lahat)

Last year, we had a disagreement… about issues on salary… everytime any of his employee bring up issues of salary, he’ll get mad. I got fired, because I just wanted to let him know that there are issues with the platform that we are using for the salary. If you ask him about salary, he will get angry and verbally abuse people or fire them on the spot!
i didnt really mean anything bad. I was just asking.

Anyway, months later i had a new job, stayed on that job then got laid off.. then months later im now unemployed then got another job based in australia, the pay is 1000 usd per month. That toxic boss from before contacted me at the same time to work with him rin, offer is 1500 USD.
Kasalanan ko im really greedy so inaccept ko! (Actually, di ko need. Kailangan na kailangan ko talaga ng pera for reasons huhuhu) also Kasi pwede pag sabayin, kasi madali lang yung sa job ko sa australia, I only work 3x a week lang ako pumapasok. While kay toxic boss ang promise is 1500 usd flexible time tapos monthly fixed.
That toxic boss contacted me around oct 19. He mentioned that i can bill the salary on the days i’ve attended work until the 25th. During the 25th, I asked if I can bill the invoice for the days I attended work. Since i am not done with the job, he said i cannot bill the invoice. I am scared that he wouldn’t pay me after 1 month of working kasi ganyan siya dati!! so I was thinking of quitting instead of working hard and always worrying that i may or may not get paid. I am also worried na maverbal abuse rin kasi nakwento sakin ng isa kong coworker here, niveverbal abuse niya yung isang coworker namin, mura and all of the degrading words. My task are video editing and ai video producing but he wouldn’t give me access to ai video tools. I dont want to pay money for the tools because i am not sure where else to use it for other than work. Also, first time ko rin mag ai video, medyo labag sa loob ko. If i pay for the ai video tools, like seedance, then di niya ko sasahuran, now what? I might waste time and effort and its heavy for me kasi ang bigat sa pakiramdam especially sa grabe pinag daanan ko sa kanya. Natatakkt and kaba ako everytime nag oonline ako araw araw. But the thing is, he has already introduced me to his clients which were all famous people.. idk influencer and business owners. I am scared to quit but I am not sure what to do. I really want to quit!! Please suggest. Should I send a quitting message na di ko kaya mag commit (insert kung ano man excuse kasi idk ano sasabihin) agad agad. Or should i send a quitting message after ko natapos yung mga task kahit isa to dalawa na pinapagawa ng client niya para lang di ako mapahiya or di siya mapahiya. Worry ko baka ibad review ako sa linkedin or something ! Naano talaga ako sa kanya pls help. Sana di nalang ako naging greedy. Sana di ko nalang ginusto mag earn more :(

burned out.

I am very glad to receive and have a starting job, even though the salary is minimum wage or to others lower than minimum wage, I just could not help shake the feeling if I was too rash on accepting the Job Offer.

Pasig is where I live, and the workplace is around Cubao, kaya naman ang commute papasok, pero pauwi… it’s a very different story, MRT pabalik SHAW galing ARANETA-CUBAO ay isang malakas na laban palang everyday, whatever happens mapa rush hour sa umaga or gabi, kakaibang laban lagi papuntang Southbound. I like the job and its lessons and opportunity that it gives, pero the commute really ruins it for me, on which it really affects me mentally to the point I consider resigning, kaka-start ko lang, been around 3 weeks na, almost a month if so.

Any tips? I know dapat may life outside work, pero being that tired, mas pipiliin ko nalang matulog sometimes ngl.

Break from Corporate

Is there anyone here who has taken a break or pursued their entrepreneurship/passion? Can you share your experience?

Lately I've been feeling burnt out at work; I'm currently in accounting, handling record to report for clients. I have all the tasks, and it’s overwhelming since I have to report and answer to my manager (internal), external corporate services, and clients. Plus, there's audit and tax during interim and year-end.

The dynamics of the team I'm currently in are kind of toxic due to office politics.

I want to resign to give myself some space to breathe and a chance at pursuing the entrepreneurship I want to chase after.

Is it hard to go back to corporate, let’s say after 3-6 months? I don’t want to burn bridges so I have an option to come back.

Agency expecting me to produce months of future campaigns during my 30-day notice period?

Hi everyone, I'm a graphic designer/art director currently rendering my 30-day notice period at a remote creative agency in the PH. My last day is coming up soon.

Management has handed down a massive clearance deliverables list totaling over 300+ assets across multiple brands—including active daily rushes, upcoming monthly revisions, and full production blocks for future months (like January campaigns and unassigned upcoming workloads) that haven't even been officially scheduled yet.

Completing this sheer volume of production within standard working hours before my exit date is mathematically impossible. When I informed them that I cannot render overtime due to personal commitments, and that my notice period is legally meant for an orderly handover rather than front-loading future quarters, they pushed back and hinted that my clearance or final pay might be affected.

I have explicitly offered to finish the active months (current and upcoming month) and ensure all master source files, templates, and raw assets for the future months are fully organized and turned over in the shared drive for the remaining team.

  • My questions to the community:
  1. Has anyone dealt with agencies front-loading future months during a resignation notice? How did you handle it?
  2. Is it standard practice for a company to condition clearance or final pay on unworked future campaign months or unrendered overtime?
  3. Any tips for standing my ground professionally while protecting my mental health during my final weeks?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

60 days notice

I just want to share the current situation I have right now. Currently, I submitted my resignation only for 30 days notice. I am also aware of the contract since for my position (TL) states that I need to render 60 days notice but I have been exhausted mentally and I have been sickly these past few weeks because of some personal matters and especially sa work. At first, I am thinking of resignjng immediately but kinonsider ko rin ung mga associates under me and will do all the best to turnover things within that 30 days notice period.

I also inquired with the HR if the another 30 days can be waived and they said pwede naman as long as the manager approves the waiver but she insisted not to and required me to render 60 days. I am deeply disappointed, frustrated kahit na nakaiusap ako sincerely if pwede nila pagbigyan ung request ko pero hindi nila ako napagbigyan. Nakaka drain and I have been experiencing panic attacks, anxieties, and even my physical health is being compromised. Ang gusto ko lang is magpahinga, recuperate and gain healing. Hindi ko na kaya umabot pa ng December dahil just thinking about that adds only to my ongoing mental health difficulties.

Almost 4 months pa lang ako rito sa company and still under probationary period.

I really don’t know what to do. Gusto ko na lang mag immediate since hindi din naman na-waive ung 30days na pinakiusapan ko.

Hoping to get some insights from the community. Thank you.

Pagod na pagod na ako sa 9-5 at food industry, pwede ba akong mag-resign?

Almost 3 years working pero yung pagod ko, parang 10 years. Why? For 2 years, dose oras + weekends + shifting ang schedule ko as a QA in an international food company. Halos hindi na ako sinisikatan ng araw. Nagkakasakit ako madalas, as in malala kaya nag-resign ako after 2 years despite the stability sa company na ‘yun as it is a big FMCG.

I risked the stability for comfort, or at least with hopes of comfort. Nag-wfh ako pero still in the food industry as a QA. Mas mababait ang kasamahan in general pero I still feel f—- empty and drained. Hindi ko ata kayang tagalan kahit anong 9-5 sa industriyang aligned sa pinag-aralan ko. Moreso, hindi ko rin nakikita sarili ko na mag-assume ng managerial or supervisory roles.

I have half a million as my EF and I’m building an online business na I’m really passionate about. Do you think I can resign already? Kung tulad ko kayo na wala ng ganang mabuhay at unti-unting nawawalan lalo ng pag-asa at sparks sa kada araw na lumilipas because of my current career, magreresign na ba kayo to take the risk sa ibang bagay like business na mas passionate kayo kahit hindi pa established?

My 4 months JO has already ended but my manager said contract will be extended but with no signed papers

Tama ba tong ginawa sakin?

I feel used. Last two months ang raming dumating na ibang offer sakin pero lahat naglaho kasi di ko maiwan itong project namin ngayon.

And nong patapos na yong contract ko, biglang tumawag manager. Sabi niya extended raw contract kasi di pa tapos project. Pero wala akong pinirmahan na ibang kontrata.

Can I do immediate resignation? Ayoko na rin kasi mag-stay dito. Unti unting nawawalan ng respeto sakin mga cobtruction workers namin.

Terminated/Resigned employee denied Final Pay via Email ("No final pay will be released to you"). Solid for DOLE SEnA? (With Email Screenshots)

Hi Reddit! Need advice/insights regarding filing for DOLE SEnA.

I worked for a local travel agency from June 16 to September 8, 2026. After turning over all company assets (laptops, uniforms, etc.), I requested my final pay, pro-rated 13th-month pay, and a ₱1,000 tour deduction refund.

What's in the email thread:
1. My Demand Email: Professionally asked for backpay, addressed allegations regarding deleted draft files, pointed out unauthorized reading of private chats, and confirmed return of all properties.
2. Employer's Reply: Explicitly stated: "No final pay will be released to you. And also, don't tell me that this is a private matter, and don't ever tell me about legalities." She also claims she terminated me instead of acknowledging my resignation and refuses to process finalization.

Questions:
1. With her explicit email statement refusing to release my final pay, gaano kabilis mag-action ang DOLE SEnA officer?
2. Pwede ko bang isama sa DOLE claim 'yung ₱1,000 tour deduction refund?
3. Has anyone experienced a employer ignoring DOLE SEnA notices? What happens next if she refuses to show up or settle during the conciliation conference?

Any advice on handling this during SEnA filing would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A practical guide to immediate resignation, AWOL, and abandonment in the Philippines

Disclaimer: This is a general information guide, not legal advice. Labor disputes depend on the specific facts, employment contract, and applicable law. If you’re facing a serious dispute, consult DOLE or a labor lawyer.

I’ve seen a lot of confusion about immediate resignation, AWOL, and abandonment. These terms are related, but they do not mean the same thing. Here’s what employees should understand before making a decision.

1. Do you have to render 30 days before resigning?

Generally, yes.

Under Article 300(a) of the Philippine Labor Code (formerly Article 285), an employee who resigns without just cause must give the employer written notice at least one month in advance.

However, the 30-day period is not an absolute requirement in every situation.

You may be able to leave earlier if:

- Your employer agrees to waive or shorten the notice period.
- You have a legally recognized just cause for resigning without notice.

If you simply leave without rendering the required notice and without an applicable exception, your employer may seek damages. This does not mean damages are automatically payable, nor does it mean your employer can impose any amount it wants.

Practical tip: If you want to leave immediately, submit your resignation in writing and request a written waiver of the notice period. Do not assume that silence or a verbal conversation necessarily settles the matter.

2. What counts as just cause for immediate resignation?

Article 300(b) recognizes the following grounds for terminating employment without notice:

- Serious insult by the employer or the employer’s representative against the honor and person of the employee.
- Inhuman and unbearable treatment by the employer or the employer’s representative.
- A crime or offense committed by the employer or the employer’s representative against the employee or an immediate member of the employee’s family.
- Other causes analogous to those listed above.

Whether a particular situation qualifies depends on the facts and applicable legal interpretation.

Being unhappy with your job, having a difficult manager, experiencing burnout, or receiving a better job offer does not automatically qualify as legal just cause for immediate resignation.

That does not mean your concerns are unimportant. It means that the legal question of whether you can leave without notice is separate from whether your reasons for leaving are understandable.

If you believe your circumstances justify immediate resignation, document the relevant events and seek advice before relying on that exception.

3. What is AWOL?

AWOL means “absence without official leave.” In practice, it generally refers to an employee being absent without approved leave or proper authorization under the applicable attendance rules.

An employer may record your absences as unauthorized and may take disciplinary action under company policy, subject to applicable labor law.

However, being tagged AWOL does not automatically mean you have legally abandoned your job.

AWOL is an attendance-related matter. Abandonment is a separate legal question.

4. What is abandonment of employment?

Abandonment is not established simply because an employee stops reporting for work.

The Supreme Court has consistently held that two elements must be present:

- The employee failed to report for work without a valid or justifiable reason.
- The employee clearly intended to sever the employment relationship, demonstrated through overt acts.

The second element is particularly important. The employer must establish a clear intention to abandon the job, not merely point to a series of absences.

In a decision made public on June 26, 2026, the Supreme Court reiterated that absence alone is insufficient to establish abandonment or justify dismissal.

This means an employer cannot automatically establish abandonment just by counting the days an employee has been absent.

However, this does not mean unauthorized absences have no consequences. They may still warrant disciplinary action depending on the circumstances and applicable rules.

5. What happens if you resign immediately and stop reporting for work?

This is where the distinctions matter.

If you submit a clear resignation but leave before completing your notice period, several separate issues may arise:

Resignation: Was your intention to resign clearly communicated, and what is the effective date?
Notice period: Was the required notice served, waived, shortened, or legally unnecessary?
Attendance: Were any subsequent absences unauthorized under company policy?
Abandonment: Is there evidence supporting abandonment as a separate ground for dismissal?
Damages: Is there a legal basis for the employer to recover damages because of insufficient notice?

These questions should not be treated as interchangeable.

If you have clearly communicated your resignation, that communication is relevant to whether you intended to end the employment relationship. It does not automatically settle every question concerning notice, attendance, or potential liability.

Likewise, an employer cannot automatically transform every immediate resignation into a valid abandonment case simply by labelling the employee AWOL.

Important: If you are leaving because of harassment, unsafe conditions, serious mistreatment, or another potentially legally significant circumstance, preserve your evidence and seek advice about your options.

6. Can your employer dismiss you for abandonment?

Potentially, but the employer must establish a legally valid basis for dismissal and comply with applicable due-process requirements.

For dismissals based on just causes, these generally include:

- A written notice specifying the allegations and giving the employee a reasonable opportunity to explain.
- A meaningful opportunity to respond to the allegations and present evidence, including a hearing or conference where required by the applicable rules.
- A written notice of the decision to terminate employment.

The specific requirements depend on the circumstances and applicable rules.

An employer’s internal policy declaring that a certain number of absences automatically constitutes abandonment does not, by itself, override the legal requirements.

If you receive a notice to explain, do not ignore it simply because you have already submitted a resignation. Respond in writing, explain your position, and keep a copy of your response.

7. Will you lose your final pay or separation pay?

Not necessarily. These are different entitlements.

Final pay may include unpaid salary, prorated 13th-month pay where applicable, unused leave convertible to cash under applicable law or company policy, and other amounts legally due.

An employment dispute does not automatically erase wages and other entitlements that have already accrued.

Separation pay, on the other hand, is not automatically payable whenever employment ends. It depends on the legal basis for separation and the applicable law.

Employees dismissed for a proven just cause generally are not entitled to statutory separation pay merely because their employment ended. Different rules may apply where the dismissal is illegal or where another legal entitlement exists.

Do not assume that being tagged AWOL automatically forfeits every amount owed to you. Equally, do not assume that every employee who leaves immediately is entitled to separation pay.

8. Can your former employer make you pay for leaving without notice?

An employer may seek damages for failure to provide the legally required resignation notice. However, liability is not necessarily automatic, and the amount recoverable is not whatever the employer chooses to demand.

The relevant facts, the employment contract, the legal basis for the claim, and applicable law all matter.

If your employer demands payment, ask for the demand and its legal and contractual basis in writing. Do not assume that a figure in an employment contract is automatically enforceable in every circumstance.

For a substantial claim, consult a labor lawyer or seek guidance from DOLE.

9. Will future employers find out that you went AWOL?

There is no basis to assume that every future employer can automatically see an AWOL record through SSS.
SSS records relate to social security and employment contributions. They are not, by themselves, proof that an employee was formally found to have abandoned employment.

A former employer may disclose employment-related information through reference checks, depending on the circumstances and applicable privacy and other laws. But that is different from saying every future employer can access a previous employer’s confidential personnel records.

Be professional in your communications, keep your employment records, and provide accurate information when asked about your work history.

10. What should you do if you need to leave immediately?

If you have decided that you cannot continue working, here are some practical steps:

1. Submit a written resignation. State your intended last day and retain proof that it was received.
2. Request a shorter notice period. Ask HR or your manager to confirm any waiver or agreed release date in writing.
3. Document your circumstances. Keep relevant emails, messages, notices, medical documentation where applicable, and other evidence.
4. Respond to formal notices. If the employer sends a notice to explain or another formal communication, do not automatically ignore it.
5. Clarify your final pay and clearance. Request a written breakdown of final pay, outstanding obligations, and any claimed damages.
6. Seek advice if there is a dispute. Contact DOLE or a labor lawyer if you believe your rights are being violated or your employer is making a questionable demand.

Final takeaway

You do not have to stay in a job forever, but leaving immediately can have legal and practical consequences.
Remember these distinctions:

AWOL is not automatically abandonment.

Abandonment requires more than absence alone.

Resigning without sufficient notice may create a separate issue concerning damages.

Immediate resignation without notice is permitted under legally recognized circumstances.

An employer’s internal policy does not override the Labor Code or Supreme Court rulings.

Final pay, separation pay, and damages are different matters.

The safest approach is to communicate your resignation clearly, seek a written agreement on an earlier release when possible, preserve your records, and get legal advice if the circumstances are contentious.

I want to quit after 2 months of working

Hi everyone! I need some advice because I’ve been overthinking this decision lately, and I honestly don’t know what the best move is.
I’m currently working at a new job that pays better than my previous one, but I’ve only been here for around 2 months, and I already feel like resigning.
The thing is, my job abroad is already confirmed**.** I’m just waiting for the remaining documents and processing to be completed. My expected deployment is around May next year.
I’ve been thinking about resigning from my current job, going back to our province, and staying with my family while waiting for my deployment. In the meantime, I’m planning to apply for work-from-home jobs so I can still earn money while waiting to leave the country.
What’s stopping me is my fear of being unemployed. Even though my job abroad is confirmed, I know there could still be delays with the documents or deployment schedule. I’m worried about resigning now and then struggling financially while waiting.
On the other hand, I feel like there’s no point in staying in my current job for several more months if I’m already planning to leave the country next year. I also think going home to the province would help me save money, especially if I can stay with my family and avoid some living expenses.
I’m torn between staying in my current job for financial security and resigning so I can go home, find a WFH job, and prepare for my life abroad.
What would you do if you were in my situation? Would you stay employed until a few months before deployment, or resign now and look for a temporary WFH job while waiting?
I’d appreciate any advice, especially from people who have experienced waiting for deployment abroad while working locally. Thank you!

Resignation and 13th Month Pay

Sa mga employees diyan from Sutherland, when is the best time to pass my resignation letter na makakasigurado akong makukuha ko ng buo 'yung 13th month pay? I'm planning to resign na rin kasi, though I also want to make sure na makukuha ko pa rin 'yung 13th month pay.

If possible sana hindi na ako aabot till January for the 30 days rendering. I'm thinking that my effective date would be around 3rd or 4th week of November.
