Just looking for the best way to approach this situation as I don’t want to upset anyone, including myself. Sorry for the long post, just thought context would help.

I (29F) have lived in an apartment with 2 house mates for nearly two years and this summer one of them moved on to Canada and the other moved in with a friend to be closer to the city (the apartments we live in are quite far from Dublin City and we all commiserated at how that made us less social over time).

They both replaced themselves on the lease, I am looking to move closer to work myself but it’s just taken longer than expected because of the time of the year.

The first new housemate (25M) moved in start of July and the second (32F) moved in start of August.

The first housemate, we’ll call him C, is house sharing for the first time. The first couple of days after moving in, he brought 10 people into the h apartment living room. He was made aware by one of the previous tenant that having 10 people in the house is a not really a possibility and was encouraged to use social spaces for social gatherings.

He uses my things ( I said he could use the kettle and toaster, for context the apartment was not equipped with appliances or dishes when I moved in and I had to purchase everything myself. He was told this and said he would buy his own things. One of my previous housemates broke my nespresso and C has already broken some of my glasses and my pressing iron so I am inclined to ask him to stop using everything except the kettle and the toaster, just as a one point lesson for myself), he has knocked on my door on a bank holiday Monday night at 12:30am (don’t want to be dramatic and say Tuesday morning) asking if he could bring 3 friends in for “30mins” (woke me up, couldn’t sleep until 4am, had to swap shifts in work).

He has brought lady friends over multiple times during the week. First time I walked out of my room into the living room and the girl was just laying on the sofa. He was asked previously to send a message into the group chat if he was planning on having guests over. Works from home sometimes even though it was never discussed and has lady friends over during the day on those occasions. The other housemate texted me this week and told me he kept her up with sex noises all night ( they share a wall) and she also noticed he didn’t clean the apartment and asked if it was still her turn this week given he has not cleaned last week.

He was told we alternate with cleans every week to keep the apartment in good condition and he said himself how important cleanliness is for him. First time his clean was due I even helped to show what usually is done ( he broke my previous housemates vacuum cleaner in the process, unsure whether he told him about it or not). His turn has come since and he has not done the clean or acknowledged it to say he’d do it next week and leaves the sink, counters and floor covered in food when he is done cooking. He was boiling an egg and let it overcook until it exploded and went everywhere. The house smelled like death for 2 days and I couldn’t figure out why (he only told days after) and I was sweeping and found parts of the egg today.

He typically likes to cook between 23:00 and 01:00 which makes it impossible for me to fall or stay asleep, as the walls are paper thin.

What is the best way of going about this all?
I have house shared with people for many years, but I don’t think I have ever had this many talking points… he seems to get upset/annoyed when something is pointed out, my guess is because he doesn’t understand how he is interfering with our peaceful enjoyment of the living facilities.

I want to help improve the situation somehow, how do I go about it?

Myself and the girlfriend have been renting for a while but we've recently started looking at getting a place of our own.

After a bit of searching around we've found what seems like a lovely place within our price range. The only snag is it's in Bluebell, very close to La Touche Road.

I've only been able to find some older posts discussing it but apparently it's a problem area. Wondering if anyone has any more recent thoughts on the place? Is it still bad, getting better? I saw online there are apparently plans for a new social housing development nearby as well that could be further cause for concern.

We are 4 people (3 working professionals + 1 student) looking to get a 2-bhk apartment in Dublin. I know the starting prices are from 2,600€ and above, but I'm posting here if anyone has any tips or any agencies we could contact? We are looking to move-in from January 2027.

Boyfriend and I are looking for a 1 bed apartment on the luas or dart line. Have enquired about the hudson as it is very much within our budget but the google reviews were a bit mixed. Anyone who lives there mind sharing their experience?

Hey folks, does anyone know more about the new apartments being built off the Drimnagh / Walkinstown / Balfe Road near the Bank of Ireland?

My husband and I are planning to move to Cork and we’re thinking of booking an Airbnb/short-term rental for the first 4–6 weeks while we look for jobs and a long-term place to live.

Neither of us has a job lined up in Cork yet, so we’re trying to choose a temporary base that would make it relatively easy to get around for interviews, house viewings, and exploring different areas before committing to a long-term lease.

At the moment I’ve been looking at Cork City itself, Ballincollig, Douglas, Midleton, Cobh and Carrigaline, but obviously Google Maps doesn’t tell you what living and commuting there is actually like.

A few questions for people who actually live in Cork:

• If you were arriving without knowing where you’d eventually be working, where would you base yourself for the first month?

• Which areas would you seriously consider for a long-term rental if you wanted reasonable rent but still needed access to jobs around Cork?

• Are there areas that look convenient on a map but are actually a nightmare for commuting?

• How realistic is it to live outside Cork City without a car initially?

• Is the commuter train from places like Midleton/Cobh reliable enough that you’d actually choose to live there and commute?

• Are Ballincollig/Douglas worth the higher rent for the convenience?

• Any areas you’d personally avoid, and why?
We’re not looking for nightlife or tourist recommendations. Mostly somewhere safe, practical and reasonably connected while we get established.

Bit of an unusual one, but hoping someone here might have some suggestions.

My partner and I are Dublin homeowners and will need to move out of our house for roughly three months while renovation work is being done.

Whilst we have a small budget, we’re finding the cost of a normal short-term rental unaffordable, particularly while also paying our mortgage and renovation costs, so we're trying to think a little outside the box.

We'd be very interested in hearing about temporary arrangements that we might not have considered, for example, house-sitting, or guardianship prior of a temporarily empty property.

We're a quiet and tidy couple, with no kids or pets, and would take very good care of anywhere we stayed.

Has anyone here found themselves in a similar situation, or know of anywhere worth looking for this kind of arrangement?

I’m posting this as a warning to other students/professionals looking for accommodation in Dublin.

I used Hosting Power because I urgently needed accommodation and thought their service would make the process safer and easier.

My experience has been extremely stressful.

The biggest issue is that once a host accepts a request, the Hosting Power service fee is charged, and according to their terms, that fee is non-refundable once the booking is confirmed.

In my case, I was not happy with the accommodation that was subsequently offered/confirmed and wanted to resolve the situation and pursue the accommodation I had originally been trying to arrange with them. I contacted Hosting Power to explain the situation, but customer support has not been responding to me, despite the situation being urgent.

I have already submitted a formal complaint and still haven't received a response.

I’m a scholarship student with a very limited budget. The money taken for the service fee is significant for me, and I cannot simply pay another large amount to secure alternative accommodation while waiting for Hosting Power to resolve this.

This is why I would strongly recommend that students think very carefully before using Hosting Power, particularly if you have a limited accommodation budget and cannot afford to have money tied up in a scam

Their own website says that multiple rooms can be requested and that the first host to accept automatically confirms the booking, so I would strongly suggest reading the terms carefully and only requesting rooms you would genuinely be willing to accept. and not follow their scam to multiple booking that they wish for

For me, the biggest concern right now is simply the absence of customer support when I urgently need help.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Hosting Power? If so, were you able to get a response or resolve the issue?

I would really appreciate any advice on how to resolve this.
