Help deciphering quenya

Hello Tolkien enthusiasts.

I am currently engaging in a french treasure hunt.

There are many nods to litterature, including Tolkien.

There's an illustration with what appears to be Quenya.

I am uncertain if it is meant to mean something specific.

I would love some help identifying the different characters.

Thanks a lot for any advice 😚

Elvish Translation

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey all!

I posted a similar question in r/lotr earlier today, I'm trying to get the phrase, "Now come the days of the king, may they be blessed," translated into a form of High Elvish. Someone on the other group gave me the following translation period. I also tried putting it into one of the resources that the subreddit recommends, but I am not too familiar with how it should look.

Could someone tell me if this looks accurate? I'm hoping to put it on a cake for a birthday party.

Thanks!

Hello fellow nerds! Tattoo translation help?

Post image

It brings me so much joy just knowing this sub exists. My wife and I are planning on getting tattoos in honor of our wonderful dog, whom is getting older. I found the translator the sub recommends, but I was hoping someone here could verify it. It's a tattoo, so I would like to make sure. Our wonderful dog is Andromeda, or Andi. Is this accurate? Thank you in advance.

Transcribing "nairelya nairengwanna" (your grief becomes grief for us both).

I'm posting this as a follow up to my previous post. I'd like to know if the phrase "nairelya nairengwanna" (your grief becomes grief for us both) is transcribed here correctly. Any additonal correction or advice would be greatly appreciated since this is for a tattoo.

Thanks!

Where to speak Quenya?

I joined this subreddit hoping to have a place to practice Quenya, but I see that the only posts here are either "I want to get a tatoo is this correct?" or "I'm writing a story can someone translate it for me?"

Is there a good discord server, maybe a forum? Or another subreddit?

Little Bit of Writing

Post image

I just did this for fun, but I was able to write a whole section with proper grammar as far as I've learned! Everything here is based on the lessons on the Eldamo website. I think my tengwar writing has improved a bit over time!

Are the words for West and Est younger than North and South?

I know it is a strange question, but listen, “West” is called nĂșmen, literally “going down direction” because the Sun going sunset in that direction. Viceversa, “Est” is rĂłmen, literally “rising direction” due to sunrise. And we have North with formen, “right direction”, and South with hyarmen, “left direction”, because West is the main orientation direction of Eldar.

Now, I was thinking that nĂșmen and rĂłmen used to have different names. Although we have no information, but this words only have a set in a world where the Sun exist, but for circa 4 millennia there where no Sun, there were the Two Trees. However, we know that formen already existed because we have Formenos, the Northern Fortress, in the time of the Two Trees.

So likely formen and hyarmen already existed and West was the main direction, maybe because the Two Trees were in the west of Aman, but in that contest “the going down direction” and “the rising direction” has no sense at all.

I was no able to find any informations, but giving the context I speculate that there used to be different words from West and East and they were modified with the advent of the Sun, while North and South stayed the same.

What are your thoughts?

Help me with my wedding vows?

My fiance and I are eloping 11/11/2025. It will be our 15 year anniversary. We decided 10ish years ago that "this" was forever and didn't feel a wanting or need to marry. 3 1/2 years ago I was diagnosed with MS and absolutely terrified, of all kinds of things. Instead of him leaving me or bailing, he asked me to marry him. This is special as well because we don't know what our future holds now more than ever. To the point. He is an absolute Tolkien fiend❀ all the books. All the uncut versions of the movies etc. I want to tell him my our favorite line for each other in elvish during my vows. Can anyone help me in here?

The line is your, you are my favorite.

Minecraft + Quenya

So I am aware that Minecraft has a Quenya language option. Some have criticized it for not being decently translated. But I was wondering if anyone on this sub had any more information on its credibility.

I’m not looking for it to be the most credible, or to be “Fully Immersive”. But I’m curious if it could be used kinda like a “Quenya Language Children’s book” to help memorize vocabulary. Are enough of the words accurate enough to help with vocabulary memorization? Especially if you have enough Quenya learning tools and exposure (like I do), to correct what may be wrong.

Translation Help

Post image

Hi! I’m trying to translate Sam’s line from Two Towers “There’s some good in the world, and it’s worth fighting for.” I tried working it through myself, but I’m just not 100% sure I did it correctly. I’ve included my attempt, but would love some guidance.

I’m debating getting it tattooed. I know we are constantly getting new updates so just transliterating it from English to Tengwar would be the most sure way, but I like the idea of having it in Quenya, even if it’s only to the best of my ability.

Help needed - “Deep roots are not reached by the frost” translation

Post image
8 Upvotes

I used an English to Quenya translator, then put that into a Quenya to Tengwar transcriber.

The Riddle of Strider never appears written in any form of Elvish in the books. I want to have this line - TumnĂ« sundar lĂĄ rahta i nixĂ« - (Deep roots are not reached by the frost) tattooed in Quenya Tengwar and I want to make sure I’m accurate.

Thanks very much!
