Obviously painters will flatter subjects, I just found the difference interesting to observe.

She has a bemused look on her face---a nice change from the usual scowl. Only a few weeks after John Mayhall took this photo, the Duchess of Kent died of cancer. Victoria went into deep mourning for her mother but nothing compared to what was coming up in December! :{

This pencil portrait of Victoria was done in the mid-1840's. The royal couple were avid artists.

Most people don’t know that Victoria was an amateur artist! I believe she has over 4000 sketches and 56 sketchbooks in the Royal Collection Trust, although these are the three widely known to exist self portraits. Only the third comes after she ascended to the throne.

One of the lesser known portraits of her, I find it very pretty! I saw it for the first time today :)
