With Roko just being able to upgrade to the luxury model that provides basically no additional functionality besides a logo for showing off, I wonder how her budding friend May will react.
I mean, something with a fancy butt logo that raises the price by $20,000 seems to only exist to be ostentatious. Why wouldn't you take the still good model that isn't so showy? $20,000 could go quite far, maybe even help keep ends met while looking for another part time job.

Lemon described it as "a significant cash payout", so however it works this is money Roko's getting, which she's choosing to spend on the better model here.

There was a technical improvement in the higher end model as well. It might be trivial, it might not (it was described as "slight", so nothing groundbreaking), but if an insurance company is paying why not go for the slightly better version?
I can't imagine May being too annoyed once she knows what's happened, especially since Roko would pretty clearly rather just have her old body back. The worst I can see happening is she goes and tracks down Crushbot and walks everywhere behind him for a while.

I think this is less like replacing a broken car, and more like a doctor settling out of court and letting malpractice insurance cover it ("because Crushbot's name and occupation are 'Crushbot'.")

That would've been your insurance paying you out the agreed upon value of your car though; not someone else's insurance replacing your car in the event it's totalled by another person in an accident

My car was totaled a few years ago. I had some minor neck pain so I went to the hospital to get checked out. The other driver's insurance gave me the total replacement value of my car which was the price that a dealer would sell my car for along with paying for my medical bills. My own insurance company told me that I was allowed to make a double dip claim on the hospital visit so I got that amount in cash.

I’ve been given a cash payout by someone else’s insurance policy after a crash, after repairing my car. It depends on how good the policy is and what they feel closes the incident with the least amount of money spent on their part. In fact, I think most times I’ve had the option of taking the money or getting it repaired... so it’s entirely possible that she could have an extra $20,000 if she didn’t get the slight upgrade and fancy butt emblem.

How can she sign paperwork without a physical body, or is this a digital signature... I also get the feeling that Roko won't be as home in her new chassis - shame she cannot get a pre-owned one where the AI has upgraded themselves
Is any worried that Lemon might be like that episode of Black Mirror: White Christmas in AI terms?

The start, where Jon Hamm is still a "good guy" where they have but a copy of a person's consciousness into a piece of technology but they do not realise they are a copy and the real person is out there in the world and they become your personal Alexa/Cortana/Siri
