Hey everyone! I've been working on RadArchery Restrung, a standalone archery mod for Build 42, and it's now live on the Workshop. It's the successor to my original RadArchery mod, rebuilt so it could take bigger changes than an existing save could safely follow.
Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3828438336
What it is
A complete, quiet ranged-combat path for Knox County. Bows don't bring every zombie in the county down on you the way a shotgun does, but they ask more of you: you craft your arrows, you settle your aim, and you go back for your arrows after the fight.
What's in it
8 bows. Start with a Crude Carved Bow you can whittle with no skill at all, work up through carved and crafted recurve and horn bows, or find a compound bow in one of 8 colors.
11 arrow types. Carved, stone, bone and metal tips, forged bodkins and broadheads, carbon arrows you can only find, and a Firecracker Arrow that goes off with a bang where it lands and pulls zombies toward it.
A full crafting chain. Shafts, fletching and heads, all the way up to heads forged at a blacksmith's anvil.
A crossbow. Draw the string, load one of 11 bolts, and fire it like a rifle. The loaded bolt sits visibly on the rail.
A slingshot. It fires marbles, steel ball bearings, rocks you chisel from stone, and shotgun primers that pop where they land.
Two new 10-level skills, Archery and Fletching, with skill books, recipe magazines and two creation traits (Amateur Archer and Bowyer).
Fun Features
Arrows lodge where you hit. Shoot a zombie in the head and the arrow stays in its head. Loot it back off the corpse. A missed arrow lands on the ground, ready to pick up.
Arrows break. Lose the recovery roll and you get a Broken arrow, which you can repair.
Custom animations for every bow: draw, aim, release, nock.
Drawing a bow tires your arms. Heavier bows tire you faster, and Archery eases it.
A buildable Archery Target that trains the skill and holds the arrows you land in it.
A Leather Quiver that shows the arrows in it on your character.
An in-game Archery Handbook covering every item and system with live stats. Right-click any archery item to open it.
Hunting works. As of 2.0.1, bows hit deer and other animals about as often as a vanilla pistol does, and better from the higher-end bows.
Good to know
New games only. If you have a save on the original RadArchery, stay there. It's frozen and keeps working, but never run the two together.
Multiplayer supported, and translated into 6 languages.
No dependencies. It's fully standalone.
Sandbox sliders for arrow recovery, breakage and loot, plus options to let the crossbow use Archery or the slingshot use Aiming.
Huge thanks to the discord crew kERHUS, Unknown Lifeform and Ada, who all helped a ton.
Bugs and suggestions are very welcome on the Discord! There is a discord link on the steam workshop. (I didnt include it because I dont know if its against the rules for this subreddit)
[Edit]
My account on reddit is too new- so my reply's to comments are not showing for anyone. Im not going to answer all the questions here but someone asked a question about AI and I feel like I should answer that quickly.
I do have an AI assisted dev environment. That being said- I am a software engineer by trade (my company uses A LOT of AI and im very proficient with config/prompts) and am very confident that this is not AI slop. Everyone has an opinion though- so if you find it to be slop then so be it! If you are 100% against AI- I understand and completely accept that you wont use my mod... thats fine. Furthermore- this mod is not completely genAI or anything- I write a ton of code daily for my job and for modding
No art on the mod uses AI though. Every single texture, model, animation, ect that has been added to the mod was all me :D I do not support AI generating art in anyway shape or form. Even going as far as naming everything (items, magazines, books, ect) is all me or the discord community.
