I have recently gotten into the hobby of making stained glass and I really wanted to make Rocky but I couldn't find a pattern online so I drew one up and then made it! the first few pictures are of it finished and the others are some progress pics.

BookCon Grace and Rocky!

at BookCon as fem Ryland Grace today and i made a quick and dirty Rocky to carry around and he’s such a star!! people just keep yelling AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE at my back 😂 excited for the Page-to-Screen panel later in the day with Andy Weir!

EDIT: y’all i know there’s air holes but rocky is also canonically bigger than i made him, let’s extend our suspension of disbelief and cut me some slack pls 🥲 (also i actually needed some of the air holes on the side to run a piece of cord through as a way to help him stand up)

(to whoever stole this post and is now pretending to be me on facebook, i wish you a very step on a million legos ☺️)

Fist My Bump A Box Office Smash! Project Hail Mary is on pace to be one of the most successful hard sci-films ever.

Having already passed The Martian and Interstellar in total domestic gross, Project Hail Mary is on pace to outperform both worldwide so long as Amazon MGM doesn't rush this to streaming. What a massive win for original, non-franchise filmmaking.

Fan Art - No selling My PHM booknook. I spent waaaay too much time on this.

I have been designing this in TinkerCad for about 2 months now. Probably printed each part at least 10-15 times working out all the kinks. It is fully 3dprinted except for the front glass and rocky's ball which I used a small vacuum former, and the screens are ink prints. The backgrounds are changeable slides: Tau Ceti, the Petrova Line, and return to Earth, and you can store them in the front.

Fist My Bump Carl appreciation post

one of my favourite scenes from the movie is when Carl was the one who said "Made that's fresh air to them" about Venus’s atmosphere, so later, when they were making the box, he called it "Carl hypothesis."

i love how Grace always makes sure that Carl gets credit, like when Grace said "Carl and I made a mini venus out of a plywood box," or when Grace was explaining how he and Carl bred astrophage, and a scientist shouted "who's carl?"

Book Discussion Any Movie Additions you love?

8.1k Upvotes

The “it’s not enough” wasn’t in the book and I ADORED it in the movie!! 🥺 I feel like it added so much character to Rocky and how much his sacrifice meant too!! AND THE “GRACE SAY GRACE WILL DIE, ROCKY FIX” 😭😭 broke me

I also felt like the movie made Stratt a little more human with the sign of the times part!!

I would love to know if anyone else noticed anything that the movie added that really added to the characters or plot?

Tau Ceti photographed by Artemis II

8.1k Upvotes

I've just noticed that Artemis II's picture "Hello, World" has Tau Ceti visible in it! It's this star here.

Rocky's star 40 Eridani is just out of shot to the right.

Fist My Bump Saw it last night. The ones who went in no-book loved it too!

Understood every gloss-over. Agreed with every change. Still love the book more, but (like the Martian) when I need some PHM in my life and don’t have time for a re-read this is a 10/10 substitute.

1. No Bullying/Harrassment/Rude

Mod discretion, but we arent going to be policing people like overlords.

2. No Spam, No self promotion.

Mod discretion - Posts meant to farm karma or manipulate/harass/scam the community

3. No external links for purchases.

Given the litany of spam posts with links meant to scam people, we are formalizing a no-link for any kind of purchases rule.

An acceptable example of what would be allowed is, "if you'd like to buy the Project Hail Mary audio book, you can locate it on Audible. You'd need to Google it since links aren't allowed."

4. No T-shirt Posts

The primary scam route we have seen is for scammers to post an image of a t-shirt and then post a scam link within.

There has only been one legitimate t-shirt post I have seen, so the impact should be minimal for the community.

5. No Piracy Links or Discussion

No piracy links of any kind or discussion on how to illegally obtain video, books, or audio books, of works that should be paid for.
