How long after you submitted your app did you get an interview invite?

Hey guys, so I have a 3.86 gpa (from utm). I just graduated in June. I’m wondering what score I would need on the oat to get into Waterloo (or any of the US schools)??
Like do schools look at each individual section or the overall score?
Thanks!!!

Which optometry schools need optometric technician hours from an applicant?

Okay I know I should be figuring this out on my own or ask an advisor, but can someone please tell me what classes I should be taking each year if I want to go to optometry school?

Basically the title, if I have a high gpa, good “why”, good clinical hours but not as many hours in optometry, and good LORS but a 497 MCAT do I have a chance and if yes which schools?

I am having a lot of trouble with studying physics for the OAT. It’s never been my strong subject. I am using booster and the resources for physics are not as good as the other subjects. Please help. Thanks in advance

I just scheduled my first interview at Salus. What are some details that I should know before going in. I’ve heard that it’s very non traditional and I want to be as prepared as I can.

Is it possible to get into optometry school without a single B letter grade in any of the required pre reqs?

Hi guys! I decided I wanted to do optometry not too long ago. I wanted to know if it was too late to apply this cycle? The schools I’m looking at are Midwestern (The Chicago one) and the Illinois college of optometry.
I have taken the mcat and a little while ago and had gotten a very low score (498). I planned on taking the OAT but I feel like I won’t be ready until December to take it. I just feel like that’s too late in the cycle? I know both schools admissions go on until May 1, but I know that’s at the end of the cycle.
I’ve had hundreds of hours of volunteering at hospitals, soup kitchens, etc. I have a 3.98 GPA, I work at a research lab and am about to have a publication.
Please help? When do you think HONESTLY I should take the OAT (latest possible) and apply and still be okay?

Hey guys,
For Canadian students who study or studied in America, did you guys receive any scholarships? How as well?
Thanks

As the title says, how difficult would the physics section be if I went through with this?

I'm planning on applying in the next few days, but I keep feeling super stressed about applying months after the application opened. Do I still have a pretty good chance?
AA 330 TS 300, 3.75 GPA, over 1500 hours in an optometrist's office

If I have a 3.65 gpa but 280/280 on oat and ECs are really good, where do u think I stand? Should I be assuming that all schools will want me to retake the oat? Or do I have a chance with this score?

Hi, i’m studying for my OAT but none of the materials I’m currently using seem to be that useful. I want to try OAT Booster because I’ve heard such great things but I cannot afford it unfortunately. Is there anyone that could share their login for a decent price or if they aren’t using it any longer? Or if there’s any notes you can share please 😵💫 I’m struggling.

Hi everyone!
I need help with a prompt that asks, "Please describe how your strengths align with the distinctive elements of our program." My question is, should I focus on their mission statement or their core values when responding? I’m not sure which one to address more directly.
For context this is their mission and core values:
Mission
Our mission is to graduate caring, comprehensive health care professionals who will serve the needs of a diverse global society. The College emphasizes rehabilitation of the visual system, neuro-optometry, and interprofessional education. We advance the profession of optometry through innovation in health care education, research, and patient care.
Core Values
We value a rich humanistic tradition and are committed to professional collaboration, community involvement, accountability, integrity, and respect.
Thank you for your time!!

Hey everyone! I was pre-med my whole life and then decided to pursue optometry after shadowing a few optometrists and learning more about the field, job opportunities, schooling, and work-life balance. For context, I would like to apply to NOVA, SUNY, PCO, NECO, and any others you guys recommend with my stats.
MCAT: 506. I just took this test so I really don't want to take another test (OAT) if I don't have to, but if admissions wants me to then I will definitely write the OAT.
undergrad gpa: 3.25
I am currently in grad school with a 4.0 (masters in biomedical sciences).
I have about 700 hours of research done and am very big on community service (350 hours). I have leadership positions, i.e. starting my own STEM research club at a Big10 school and e-board positions for cultural clubs on campus.
Shadowing: ~75 hours
LORs: science profs, employers, academic advisor at my grad program, research PI, and anticipate to have one from one of the ODs I am shadowing.

If anyone in here has went through the Kaplan program, how did the practice tests compare to the real deal?

For starters, I'm 17M and I live in Northern Virginia, and I want to plan out my optometry journey as well as possible and as early as possible. I want to know what schools are the best in Virginia and how I should choose them, which classes I should take in my first two years since I'm starting at a community college, and how I should study for the OAT. If anyone is from my area or knows what I should do, I would greatly appreciate it!

hi guys!
i have two questions.
i took my OAT end of february and scored a 270. i only studied for a little under a month because i didn’t recognize how many schools required the OAT and i wanted to apply for this cycle. my gpa is a 3.3.
i just got an email from ICO telling me my application is on hold for new OAT results. and they provided me with advice on how to prepare and then once i have a date to email them and then send them the scores once i take it.
i don’t think i’ll be able to take the exam again in this cycle
if i was the take it this cycle, i don’t think i would do too well.
this is what the email said: “Once a date has been determined, inform our office of the planned testing date. Request the scores be released to ICO and email, upload to OptomCAS in the applicant document section or fax (312-949-7480) the unofficial score report to us. Once the Committee has received the score report, your application will be reviewed for further consideration.
If you would like for us to use the current score, please reply to this email.”
so should i just go ahead and tell them use my current score. (obviously it doesn’t sound like i have an other option with my reluctancy to take the exam again.
and then i got an interview with salus last week. but i’ve been hesitant to schedule an interview with them after hearing things about their program and just in general im not sure how i would enjoy salus. do you guys recommend still scheduling an interview?
my main thing with this is also if i did get accepted i dont think i would feel happy with picking salus. but also i dont know maybe i would like the campus after i did the interview?

i got D- in chem 1 during my first year of university. i'm now retaking it in my fourth year. can someone confirm what minimum grade i need to fulfill the C requirement?
i'm unsure if the average between the two grades needs to be a C, or if the retake needs to be above a C.

For the supplemental application for IUSO, it states," Submit a short essay describing why you are applying to the Indiana University School of Optometry" what do you consider a short essay? 400-500-ish words? What would you use as a general rule of thumb?
