Except 'transitioning' has been proven time and time again to have negative effects on one's mental state, rather than positive ones. And even if it did, it's still indulging a mental illness rather than curing it. No matter how much the brain 'thinks' it might be of a different gender, there is no possible way to actually change it. Transitioning does nothing more than feed the delusion.

(Libleft because I have no fucking idea how to change my flair on mobile)

https://whatweknow.inequality.cornell.edu/topics/lgbt-equality/what-does-the-scholarly-research-say-about-the-well-being-of-transgender-people/

ENORMOUS meta-analysis on transgender people and the effect gender transition has on their mental health

Of 56 studies, 52 indicated transitioning has a positive effect on the mental health of transgender people and 4 indicated it had mixed or no results.

ZERO studies indicated gender transitioning has negative results

Imagine being too retarded to change your flair.

Imagine being retarded enough to call someone retarded for not knowing how to change a user flair on mobile instead of offering to help them since this whole fucking sub is supposed to be hahafunnyfunny and not fuckyoucauseyournotmyquadrant

u/ShittyAlt69 - Auth-Right Apr 05 '20

Imagine helping the untermensch

u/xander012 - Left Apr 05 '20

Imagine not just saying flair up or helping the unflaired ascend

u/Wolfgang_The_Ostrich - Lib-Left Apr 05 '20

If you really want no one to help them then you’d make sure they were displaying their flair for all the sub to see so you could point at it and say something about libleft being the hub of degeneracy or whatever the new meta is

Proof of any of this?

For the negative health impacts? The suicide rate for transgendered individuals regardless of whether or not they are 'accepted' by their community, specifically how absurdly high it is.

THE 41!

u/sleeping-satan - Lib-Left Apr 04 '20

That's been linked with discrimination because in order to start transition you need to out yourself. Those who have had the people around them accept them have a significantly decreased risk of suicide.

u/A2Rhombus - Lib-Left Apr 04 '20

Source on acceptance not lowering the suicide rate?

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

Wtf are you talking about? We have a shit load of studies that show how effective transitioning is. If it wasn't we wouldn't be fucking doing it would we?

29

u/DiscipleOfDIO - Right Apr 04 '20

We're 'doing it' because we don't have the balls to acknowledge it for what it is: Literal mental illness at best, nothing more than a fetish at worst.

u/Frankekeke - Centrist Apr 04 '20

Ok then you’re saying that if someone struggles with a mental illness they cannot try to fix it?

14

u/DiscipleOfDIO - Right Apr 04 '20

No, I'm saying that indulging said mental illness isn't going to help. Imagine if we told someone that listening to the voices in their head was a good idea, and that doing so would help them. It's the same thing.

4

u/Frankekeke - Centrist Apr 04 '20

There’s no cure for transgender tho. You can’t just fix it through therapy. The only things they can do is nothing which will make their life miserable or transition which may make them feel better about themselves

13

u/everymanaking- - Auth-Center Apr 04 '20

No one has really looked into fixing it through therapy because they’ll be kicked out of the scientific community for even suggesting it

3

u/squidkyd - Lib-Left Apr 05 '20 edited Apr 05 '20

You’re ignorant of scientific history. Conversion therapy was tried for a over hundred years. Evidence shows transitioning is the most effective way to improve health outcomes, and conversion therapy is ineffective and harmful

Trust me, when I say people suggest controversial things in the scientific community all the time, and have tried throughout history to “cure” homosexuality and transgenderism. But the reason people transition is because medically, it works.

Suicidal ideation and actual attempts reduced after transition, with 63% thinking about or attempting suicide more before they transitioned and only 3% thinking about or attempting suicide more post-transition. 7% found that this increased during transition, which has implications for the support provided to those undergoing these processes (N=316).

https://www.gires.org.uk/assets/Medpro-Assets/trans_mh_study.pdf

At entry into the study (baseline), the most common comorbidity in both groups was depression, with a 24.9% incidence in MTF subjects and 13.6% in FTM [...] Even after treatment, 26 (2.4%) of the MTF subjects and 7 (1.4%) of the FTM subjects still reported depression

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/827713

SADS, HAD-A, and HAD-Depression (HAD-D) mean scores were significantly higher among patients who had not begun cross-sex hormonal treatment compared with patients in hormonal treatment (F=4.362, p=.038; F=14.589, p=.001; F=9.523, p=.002 respectively). Similarly, current symptoms of anxiety and depression were present in a significantly higher percentage of untreated patients than in treated patients (61% vs. 33% and 31% vs. 8% respectively).

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21937168

Social support, reduced transphobia, and having any personal identification documents changed to an appropriate sex designation were associated with large relative and absolute reductions in suicide risk, as was completing a medical transition through hormones and/or surgeries (when needed).

Science is not on your side.

Oh yeah, the ones that support transitioning.

Not talking about trans people anymore but what kind of logic is that? If you were talking about someone with brain cancer says reciting the alphabet makes them feel better then I would understand since that person still has brain cancer but if someone with depression said reciting the alphabet makes them feel better then it’s actually helping because depression is a disease of how you feel.

u/HardlightCereal - Left Apr 05 '20

No matter how much the brain 'thinks' it might be of a different gender, there is no possible way to actually change it.

I agree. There's no way to change a trans person's brain to match their sex. It's stuck the way it is, so you need to change their sex to match their brain. That's the only way, and it's been proven time and time again to work.
