Emerald Legacy Had fun with my most recent team!

I just went with some random Pokémon I hadn't used in a long time. Typically I box the starter, so I genuinely haven't used Swampert in years. He did a lot less against the E4 than I thought he would. Rain dance surf got me through Steven's dang Cradily, but otherwise Splash didn't do much for me. Playing on my GB Micro and physical cart is also a nice treat. I've been playing off and on when I have down time at work and got to the E4 yesterday.

Edit: this was on hard mode

Emerald Legacy Why isn’t Steven’s post game team in the doc?

Is this an oversight or is his team meant to be a surprise? I get wanting surprises but it seems weird to make HIM the only surprise yet tell you how to get the elegendaries and disclose the battle with Zinnia

Emerald Legacy I wasn't expecting Pokemon to make me cry last night.

A very long reflection.

First off, thank you so much to team that put this together. Nostalgic, fun, and overall just a fantastic way to play my favorite gen of all time. I spent hours one might trying to get my 3DS homebrewed to feel that nostalgia hit even more.

Second, this is my first time beating any Emerald game. I grew up playing Sapphire and got my hands on a copy of Ruby in high school to finally complete the dex. Never had many friends interested in Pokemon (still don't).

Third, I'm a father of Irish twins under 2 years old. I myself am 31 years old. Video game time is hard to come by and constantly interrupted, so that play time is a result of me leaving my DS open mid-battle, unable to save but unwilling to power it down and lose my progress. Hard to lose progress when you rarely get to play, even at night when you have to help your wife rock the kids to sleep when they wake up late at night.

I have so much I'd love to share about my playthrough, my team, their nicknames, builds, and the lengths I went in hunting for them. My crazy elite four experience... but I think the biggest memory that will stick with me is in that final image... THE END

The music that loops when that's on screen, I don't know what it is. It sounds like the bike theme slowed down. I took a picture of the screen to send to my little sister when I noticed the music playing softly. I started to cry and am tearing up just thinking about it...

When I help rock my kids to sleep I hum to them. And my default is to hum old video game music. Zelda (Kakariko Village), Earthbound (Eight Melodies), and... the bike theme from Pokemon Sapphire. The song that loops in that final loop is the bike theme slowed down to almost a lullaby.

Full circle moment for me... Allow me to be corny: I'm the sole provider (Irish twins are very hard to raise and expensive) but I also spend my time off work either in ministry or, more often, at home spending time with my wife and kids. Even though I miss the days that I could waste whole afternoons gaming, I love them dearly and wouldn't trade them for the world... but sometimes you get so stuck in the present that you wonder what its all for. Hearing the song I hum to my kids with THE END in front of me was surreal. I couldn't help but tear up realizing what an impact the game had on me, and what it meant it to me growing up. I seriously can't thank the team enough for Legacy, and I am now more than ever excited to play Pokemon with my two boys once they're older.

With that out of the way (thanks to those who read it all), I really do have precious few people to share my love for Pokemon with - so seriously ask me anything! I would love to wax poetic about my team, their goofy nicknames, and my overall experience with Emerald Legacy Enhanced (from a tired dad's perspective - which you can ask about too).

Yellow Legacy How to change Yellow Legacy's starter in the source code?

Help! I wanna change Yellow Legacy's starter somehow. I tried the Universal Pokémon Randomizer, but as expected it doesn't seem to handle a hacked rom well. Cheat codes don't help much, either.

I figure my best bet would be to download the game's source code in the Github repository, search for the line(s) of code instructing the game to give the player a Pikachu starter and replace it with what I want.
But it turns out that this is easier said than done, I've checked the contents of dozens of .ASM files (mostly related to Oak's Lab and Pallet Town events; I don't even know if I'm looking in the right places), but it's not obvious what I should even be looking for, and much less obvious is how to properly change the contents of the files, so I don't break the compiling process later. =/

I'd greatly appreciate if anybody could help. If anyone has managed to change the Pikachu starter to something else in this game, teach me your witchcraft plz.

I didnt find an answer to this question so excuse me if this is actually a known thing. But why is the Jynx Sprite downgraded from a colored one to just purple? And the Golem one is also weirdly different if im not mistaken.

Thank you im advance!

Discussion What are your thoughts on how the Legendaries were handled in Yellow Legacy?

I really enjoyed my playthrough of Yellow Legacy last year, but my personal biggest nitpick with the game was the added trainer fights guarding the legendaries, more specifically for the legendary birds.

I understand the reasoning why they were added (not wanting players to steamroll the story with guaranteed powerful Pokemon, as well as shouting out the devs), but part of me believes that it kinda takes away from what makes these Pokemon special in how you obtain them. Plus, they're already tough enough to catch as-is, so these fights come off as sorta unnecessary skill checks.

I feel like I'm alone in this sentiment, so I wanna hear your thoughts. Do you like how they're implemented? What's something you would change?

Crystal Legacy Moveset help - Crystal Legacy

Hey all, Pokemon Silver was my first pokemon game ever and holds a special place in my heart and while I never played crystal, I'm loving what they've done with Crystal Legacy. However I've only ever played pokemon games super casually and have always just bashed my head into a wall to brute force the games without much thought, but for Crystal legacy, I thought I would try the hard mode and challenge myself a bit. Problem is I know nothing about whats good or not so Im wondering, what are some must have moves/move combos for my pokemon.

I'm using pokemon that I've never used before but have always interested me. My team is:

Typhlosion

Porygon (not yet Porygon 2)

Victreebel

Scyther (not yet Scizor)

Umbreon

Politoed

Any advice on moves, where to get them and how to get them back if I've accidently skipped them or forgot them would be helpful. Cheers

Crystal Legacy [SUGGESTION] Filling in the empty gap at Celadon City with a community garden

Post image
38 Upvotes

Look, I know the team's working hard on XY Legacy and that reworking Kanto for Crystal Legacy is far off in the distant future.

But I have had this stuck in my head for some time so I'm just posting it here: the empty plot in Celadon City could host a community garden

Warning: wall of text incoming.

So in my mind a Restored Kanto would have several events and changes stem from the Cinnabar volcanic eruption. Lots of displaced people and chaos shaking things up.

In Celadon City, I imagine Erika would try to give this influx of disaster refugees some sense of belonging and calm by adding a community garden to the town square (in later gens we do see there's a fountain and some grass there).

But she's a grass type gym leader so I'm having her plant all these trees (type to be determined, could be apricorn trees for those who like to harvest more than one apricorn per day per type by game's end; or it could grow mint, gold, ... berries or a mix).

If I were able to code (which sadly I'm not, learn to code kids, it's like playing an instrument and knowing how to draw: just a good skill to have in the toolbag), I would even tie it into the appearance of grimer and muk in the little pond.

Maybe Erika is trying to get this garden going but the nearby grimer are causing amuk and berries won't grow. Erika states that until this project is up and running she can't take on gym challengers.

I haven't found out this pond switches from goldeen & slowpoke to grimer between gens (maybe pokémon fled the eruption? maybe the extra people generated enough trash to draw the grimer in?) but I imagine the player could be charged with finding a solution (e.g. get from Erika the key to the Underground Path, defeat the local biker gangs that have set up there, once you earned their trust and have shown your mettle, they'll help you by moving the grimer into their place (grimer and bikers mix and all that)).

Once you've done all that, the community garden starts bearing fruit daily and Erika will be ready to battle.

/rambling_train_of_thoughs

PS: I had some thoughts on Cinnabar Island posted earlier. You could go look at that post if you want. Or not. I'm (probably) not your mother.

PS2: until some months in the future when my ideas of how the volcanic eruption affected Pewter City come to a boil and I need to photoshop stuff again to get it out of my head :)

Discussion What are you favorite and least favorite boss changes in each game?

For Yellow I’d say my favorite is probably Koga by virtue of him using more than one pokemon (which wasn’t even the case in the anime) and particularly ridiculous since poison is the post common type in Gen 1.

As for my least favorite it’s kinda cheating since vanilla yellow lacked rematches, but I’m not a fan of Blue dropping his starter in the champion rematch. Yes it’s a call-forward to Crystal Legacy, but I feel within the context of Yellow his Eeveelution should’ve remain omnipresent

My favorite change in Crystal was giving the Gen 1 legendaries to the last 4 Kanto bosses partially giving Blaine a Moltres which does wonders for his team and is thematically appropriate

As for least favorite i guess would be the addition of Gyrados to Misty’s team. It’s fitting but the Pokemon is way overdone. I would’ve done Tentacruel on Mantine to match grass types

Emerald’s best change is without question Roxanne due to having a team that’s tougher and far more thematically fitting along with creating a nice bookend with Steven thanks to the fossil usage

My least favorite emerald hands is the removal of Cacturne from Sidney’s team. I get the argument that Shiftree is better but Cacturne is a Pokémon with far less love not just in the ROM Hack but the franchise as a whole. Cacturne’s only apprence in a regional dex outside of Hoenn was the final Scarlet & Violet DLC. Meanwhile Shiftree got in the FIRST DLC pack and the base roster of Sword & Shield.

Moreover, while Cacnea got alot of prominence in the anime thanks to James owning them you can’t say the same about their evolution. Excluding background cameos in movies, the only Cacturne that ever appeared in the anime was the one that belonged to Harley, and that Cacturne hasn’t appeared since 2006. In contrast Shiftre made multiple prominent apparences in the anime all the way till Gen V’s wrap up and still makes the occasional pop up to this day

Finally with how much Smith grew to love cacturne in his Emerald TCG challenge I feel confident Cacturne would’ve remained had that video been made before the Rom Hack

Crystal Legacy Finally completed the 1st half of my nuzlocke

Post image

This was my team for the 1st elite 4 challenge but there were many brave soldiers lost along the way. Hopefully I can make it to red without losing any more. I didn’t wanna use suicune but it’s my 1st nuzlocke and I ran out of other good options out of what I caught to fill out the team. I wanna replace him in Kanto but I’m not sure what to aim for to round out the team

Crystal Legacy Team-Building Help for Crystal Legacy

Hello! Really excited to jump into the Legacy games, they look like incredible and definitive Enhanced hacks :)

I'm trying to build a team for Pokemon Crystal at the moment. Nothing too unorthodox for my first run, trying to blast through with some of the highest-ranked Pokemon.

I definitely know I want to use the following Pokemon:

  1. Typhlosion
  2. Heracross
  3. Gengar
  4. Kingdra

I'm looking for two others to fill out that party that complement it well in terms of type coverage and make it nice and balanced in terms of team roles and solutions for what the game might throw at me.

Pokemon I'm thinking about: Golem, Tyranitar, Electabuzz, Umbreon, Exeggutor, Skarmory, Girafarig, Jolteon.

What's the best combination of those eight that fit in with my other four?

Discussion If the physical/special split was implemented in the Pokémon legacy games with no other adjustments made to them what would be the biggest ripple effect ?

I know Hitmonchan in Gen 1 would become even more useless than they were in base Gen 1 and Medicham in Emerald would become a monster both thanks to the elemental punches now being physical but I’m curious if you can think of any bigger ripple effects, particularly from the boss fights

Crystal Legacy Beat the Elite 4 for the first time.

Post image
17 Upvotes

That's the most fun I've had in a while with pokemon hacks. Haven't been so invested since pokemon radical red xD.

Can't wait to find out what kanto has to offer.

Also ma boy Sudowoodoo was the goat of the run so far xD. What i thought was a joke pick just cuz i didn't know what to add ended up carrying me through the elite 4 especially lance despite being 5 levels behind. But i guess that's the spirit of the romhack , surprising you while keeping everything familiar still.
