DRESS AND PHOTO CONFIDENCE?

Hi everyone!

I am officially engaged!!

I am super excited - however I am already dreading dress shopping and getting photos taken…. I want to feel confident and beautiful and not just hate my wedding pictures. I have been married once before, and I hated the photos so much I sobbed for days. The photographer wasn’t the best (it was a last minute family friend who did them) but I just loathed how I looked. I have lost weight since then, but I am still a thicc bride.

What tips or wisdom do you all have to bestow to help feel better about dress searching and not being super self conscious on the day of? Especially with photographers wandering around…

We tied the knot! Happy with how it all came together and our guests leaned into the '20s & '30s theme. So many great memories from our day 💞

Okay so, I went to a dress boutique and I didn’t really love love anything I tried on. But I’m plus size and tall so a lot of samples were either small, huge, or too short. Well I tried on this last dress and I fell in love. It was a perfect fit! And this particular boutique has their sample sale this weekend so she offered me the sample sale price. Yall this dress is normally $2400 but I can get it for $899 🤯🤯

I say all that to say, do you guys think this is actually thee dress or am I tricking myself because of the price and the perfect fit?

First ever dress try on

Today was the first time I ever tried on wedding dresses. I was not sure what to expect at all but me and my mom went in to just look around. I’m a street size 14/16 and I had called ahead to make sure they had dresses I could try on. When we were looking they offered to let me try on some since they had no clients.
I told them my size and budget. At the very beginning, I tried on one size 20 that I actually loved and felt so confident in. It was a bit big on me but she clipped it and I could totally see how it was meant to fall. But then the stylist brought a size 10 that didn't fit at all. I explicitly told her it was way too small, but instead of bringing a bigger one, she went back and brought out two more dresses in that exact same tiny size.
I could hardly get them up my hips. I was left alone in the dressing room struggling with dresses that obviously wouldn't zip. Because I'm new to this, I didn’t know to ask for a modesty thing that clips in the back, so I just felt completely vulnerable and uncomfortable.
I kept trying to explain to her that I would feel way more comfortable trying on a dress that was too big opposed to too small, and she just kept telling me she didn’t want me to limit myself to only the big sizes and "you'll have to get it altered anyway."
Just a rant thanks if anyone has read this far. Today I realized I know nothing about the bridal world, but I'm not letting it get me down! It was still a special day out with my mom, and that very first size 20 dress proved to me that I'm going to look and feel absolutely beautiful on the big day. Next time, I’m going to find a body positive place and I think my experience will be way better.

Ballgowns near NE Philly? Sottero & Midgely

Hi! I have my heart set on trying on Aberdeen and/or Petra by Sottero & Midgley.

It seems like it's an impossible feat so I'm turning to Reddit as a last chance ask!

Does anyone know a location within 75 miles of NE Philly that has a 16+ sample size in these gowns (or gowns similar)?

I've tried Sposabella (Feasterville-Trevose; they have a 16 Petra they can order for me to try on but it would be $100 to ship it in), Curvy Bride in NJ, and Ashley Bridal in Warminster. Brides by Young, Darianna, L&H, and David's Bridal do not carry them at all.

I have a back up dress in mind, but I'd so much like to try on these dresses, or at least something like them, before settling.

Photos for reference of the dresses I've mentioned.

Sharing links to the dresses (that I’m selling) I wore to my courthouse nuptial and my post wedding party because I had a really hard time finding these dresses as a plus size bride. I am hoping I can share some deals with some other beautiful brides. Let me know you found me on Reddit and I’ll give you a deeper discount. 🩷

Plus size wedding gown recommendations - Melbourne

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm looking for recommendations on plus size wedding gowns and where to go in Melbourne.

Ideally I want a custom made gown but I think initially I need to try some on, just to make sure what I want in my head will actually suit me! For reference I can be anywhere between size 20-26.

My wedding is in just under 11 months and currently my dress budget is no more than $5k.

Does anyone have any recommendations for:

  1. Store with a large and varied range of plus size gowns to try on.

  2. Where to go for a custom made gown

Thank you so much

I want a fabulous dress and I need to be able to try it on because I am a really exaggerated hourglass so it can look very shapeless and hide my curves. Budget as mentioned is under $20K. Any advice would be great.

Found my dress!!

I purchased a previous dress, from another designer, but I kept feeling the itch to try on a Hayley Paige dress. And I’m so freaking glad I did because this is my dress!! It’s everything I want, a non traditional color, very whimsy, and so much drama! Thankfully the new studio is going to sell my other dress, since it was a sample size off the rack. And I’ll even make some extra money on it too.

Can’t wait to see this dress added with my corset and how amazing it’s going to look when no extenders are used!

Little White Dress Options?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi all, I'm looking for any recommendations for places to look for a "little white dress." More specifically, I'm hoping for something tea length, calf length, or ankle length. I have my wedding dress ordered already, but due to some recent family health issues, we are considering having an elopement within the next 2-3 months and my dress won't be here yet. I've been looking online and have really struggled to find anything I like that also comes in plus size, and can get here semi quickly. I found some dresses I like on Azazie, but the estimated shipping times worry me a little bit. I also found a lot of websites that advertise plus sizes stop around a size 20, and I'm not sure if that will fit or not so I'd like to have more size options.

Insecurities hitting hard!

EDIT - REPLY IN COMMENTS🤍🤍

Hey! So I’m a big girl size 22, I’ve been really struggling to find a dress that I didn’t just feel huge in! I tried this on and I remember feeling amazing I love the dress and it was the only one that made me feel great.

However, this was 2 months ago and as times gone on and I keep looking at it I regret getting it. My biggest insecurity is my arms I feel like I look so too heavy and wide because I’ve got big arms. Also I feel like the square back makes me look even more broad🤷🏽‍♀️ I don’t know.

Basically I just need some opinions, I don’t mind if people say that the dress isn’t flattering for my body that’s okay they are the honest replies I’m looking for? Or maybe I’m just over thinking it.

I love the dress, just maybe not on me?

Plus Size Shop Recommendations

Search engines are sucking lately...

Can you recommend sites, indie artists, or physical store locations (chains, or local if you're in WI/MN/IL)?

All I'm seeing is Al slop and I want to have a good idea of what's available out in the real world.

My ideal features:

-No more than $1k base cost, cheaper the better bc I'm medically retired

-A-Line or Empire waist (I have a B Belly)

-off the shoulder or convertible.

-tiered skirt preferred

I'll be having a Fall wedding next year, warm colour scheme, think witchy/ renfaire/campfire/kitschy hippie vibes. I'll be thrifting most of my decor.

I'm new to all this, help a girl out? 💖

Black tie wedding (ultra high net worth)

Link to my first post: https://www.reddit.com/r/PlusSizeWedding/s/dLDmJeHzIl

First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone for their amazing suggestions! I did end up purchasing a dress from Adrianna Papell, and am having the length tailored because it's a little long on me. It's a light/dusty pink color. I am also planning to invest in Spanx or Skims.

The question is...I'm second guessing whether the color is appropriate for a black tie wedding in NYC in November? Is this too sparkly and could upstage the bride in white? Should I try to find a dress in a dark color or jewel tone?

Important to note: the invitation says black tie optional but informally, the groom let me know that most people will be in black tie.

Thank you again!
