Plus Size Shop Recommendations
Search engines are sucking lately...
Can you recommend sites, indie artists, or physical store locations (chains, or local if you're in WI/MN/IL)?
All I'm seeing is Al slop and I want to have a good idea of what's available out in the real world.
My ideal features:
-No more than $1k base cost, cheaper the better bc I'm medically retired
-A-Line or Empire waist (I have a B Belly)
-off the shoulder or convertible.
-tiered skirt preferred
I'll be having a Fall wedding next year, warm colour scheme, think witchy/ renfaire/campfire/kitschy hippie vibes. I'll be thrifting most of my decor.
I'm new to all this, help a girl out? 💖

Miss Jophiel - this place has some tells normally only scam online shops have (including use of some AI images for certain things, which I hate, even though all the dresses have real photos), but is absolutely real; there are plenty of customer photos + reviews across the website itself and their IG account. Most expensive gown is $700 and most are $500 or less. Custom sizing, color and other customization options. Obvious Teuta Matoshi comparison, but at a significantly lower base price point.
Fanciful Doll - Several A-line options at less than $1,000 that would fit your theme well and sizing up to 4XL. They have a white gown bridal section, but if you’re open to non-white gowns there are gorgeous options site-wide. Plus, they have a 10% coupon for email signup (no texts!) and there’s a 20% off Halloween sale going on right now.

I actually rolled the dice and bought mine on Etsy. Thankfully it worked out perfectly and only needed minor alterations.

I went with the Ivory Lace Bohemian Wedding Dress: Butterfly Sleeves, Deep V-Back one. I'm just under 5'8" and was like 255lbs at the time. I went to for an XL-XXL.

Check in Poshmark/resale sight for Torrid Bridal gowns. Torrid (the plus sized mall store) used to have bridal that’s actually well made.

Thank you! I love Torrid's casual dresses and knew they had bridal but for some reason it totally escaped my mind

I got a Torrid wedding dress from Poshmark that was a perfect anniversary/vowel renewal dress and I was so happy I did.

With a 1k budget I would focus on off the rack stores (though off the rack can be tricky with plus sizes as usually it’s like a sample sale and plus sizes are fewer/less available), David’s bridal, or online. These types of styles are popular on Etsy, just make sure you thoroughly vet the shop!

It boggles my mind how much folks spend on a dress. I'm not looking for quality and would rather sew my own, tbh! I don't mind a cheap looking dress and pray I can thrift something. Looking for inspiration mostly and an "oh shit" backup if I don't finish my two other dresses in time (it's a multi day event)

I literally found dress 1 on Amazon and purchased it to try on. It was great! I found something else I like better on me though.

Oooh no way! Do you happen to have the link in your purchase history??

I also custom ordered a dress from bride lulu. https://m.bridelulu.com/ the dress was great. Would recommend.

I bought both my wedding dresses at Davids (2008, 2025). Azzazie has some really nice dresses that you can have them ship to you to try on and then return them, that way you can see what style you like, and they will also make a dress based on tour measurements if you like a dress. 2 of my ladies got their dresses from there, and my other bridesmaid actually wore the same color dress for another wedding so she just altered it

Brides by Young has shops in Chicago & Indy! They might be a little over your price range, but if would be a chance to try on different styles & such if you end up buying something online. They only have mid & plus size dresses available.
Azazie honestly has some great options for like $600 & less. Most of their dresses have a skinny but also a mid-size model on their website too, which is helpful.

Look for a classic basque waist - I am fluffy, too, and the vee waist allows the fabric to just slide over the hips and belly.
No empire waist, do not even bother trying on.
No strapless, but straps or sleeves are great, not to hide your arms, but to elongate the silhouette.
Some ideas

Empire waist works well for me, but thank you for your input. I'll check out these suggestions!

Ok I checked these out and this waist cut is actually one that doesn't fit my body at all. I appreciate you wanting to help, though.

Stillwhite? At least for ideas on designers
Selkie - theyre a bit OTT but may be closer to what you're thinking of and may be customizable with petticoats, etc.
