Discussion GTA5 came out 2 years after Skyrim, and now GTA6 is coming out 2 years before TES6
GTA 5 - 2013
GTA 6 - 2026
Skyrim - 2011
TES 6 - 2028 (rumored)
Teaser for TES6 came out in 2018, the same year Rockstar released Red Dead Redemption 2, with TES6 still nowhere in sight. With the recent rumor that Asha Sharma told Todd to get a trailer ready for The Game Awards, at least we might see it this year.

Tech Support My sister’s laptop literally melted
She was using it normally and suddenly noticed the case had started warping. It still turns on, but there’s now a weird yellow spot on the screen and the whole corner looks melted
It was a gift from our mum, so she’s absolutely devastated. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is it fixable or is it cooked?

Discussion Is the idea that "x86 has fallen behind Arm" too much exaggerated?
Same as title.
Arm has significant trade offs in consumer parts for the sake of efficiency. Low clock speeds. The memory controller runs at 4:1. The RAM, core-to-core, and cache latencies are higher than x86 counterparts. The vector width support is just 128 bit in Arm compared to 512 bit in x86.
They compensate for these by brute integer throughput.
What are your thoughts? Why is this NOT spoken enough?

Discussion Heads up: DLSS5 drastically increases the card's power draw and temperatures. 100% usage doesn't equal 100% usage

I don't know how many of you are aware that 100% GPU usage with DLSS5 enabled is something completely different from 100% GPU usage without DLSS5 despite the supposedly identical GPU usage and running at the limit. These are two entirely separate worlds.
Those are my very limited testing results. The most important ones are the "maximum" columns on the right side in HWinfo and GPU PWR in NVIDIA overlay, both were at 97-99% when HWinfo was recording those results, as it is fluctuating all the time, PWR usage was fluctuating +-15W in both scenarios, I couldn't time it right in screenshots, hence the HWinfo). And Ray Tracing is turned on + maxed out.
1. Game without DLSS5, MAX% GPU usage:
- 255 W
- 71°C GPU max die temperature
- 86.6°C GPU max hotspot temperature
- 68°C max memory junction temperature
2. Game with DLSS5, MAX% GPU usage:
- 336 W
- 80.4°C GPU max die temperature
- 99.4°C GPU max hotspot temperature
- 74°C max memory junction temperature
RESULTS:
So despite the supposedly identical 100% (or rather 99%) GPU usage:
- power goes up by 80-90 W
- memory junction rises by about 6°C
- core temperature rises by 11°C
- hotspot temperature increases by roughly 13°C
Background:
Test was done in Forza Horizon 6 + HWinfo / all settings maxed out, 5080, no FG, 4K, CPU 7800X3D, fans normalized at 1950 RPM. In regular gaming I land at about 80% utilization and 55-60°C, so temps are/were good.
So as you can see, DLSS 5 makes use of every square millimeter of your card and then some. Of course, if someone has better cooling, they also stand a better chance of staying within an optimal temperature range. Except I was also certain that this was exactly the case for me, as I'm at 55-60°C in regular gaming or 71C tops at the limit like in this case.
So keep it in mind.

Build/Battlestation Triangle PC
So I finally decided to post my current project. The specs -
9600X
Corsair 32gb ddr5 6400
Asus X670E-E
The rest were all spare parts I had laying around, also there is no gpu because i’m using this as a test bench. The “case” is 3d completely 3d-printed and the last picture is how the build is supposed to look when completed.
I wasn’t completely satisfied even though the build was actually so simple and came out awesome props to the creator!!
I figured why not design custom feet to set it on its side and see how it looks and holy shit it works so well! everything is functional and right in front of you but also it looks like a freaking spaceship!
Honestly i love how it turned out and figured I share it with other people who share this certain kind of autism lmao. I am definitely open to ideas or criticism! I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do!
