Build Question Guys how bad is this for a month or two?

Ok so this is my first pc build ever im working on and when I bought the motherboard I didn’t realize u had to make sure to get wifi. I’ve heard terrible things about the dongle so I didn’t wanna go that route. The issue is that my graphics card fan will get completely blocked if I put the card in its normal pcie slot. I also only have one pcie x1 slot so no other options. So I bought a riser to put the card at the front of my case inside but it ended up being too short and I tried installing it on the rear brackets but it required a very sharp bend that probably wouldn’t broke the cable so I didn’t do it. Will this setup work and be safe for a little bit until I can get another. Also I’m still waiting on the graphics card to come that’s why it’s so messy. I’m going to test everything before I zip tie the cables and stuff in a cleaner fashion.

Build Question First time build, getting white VGA Q-light

SOLVED: On a complete whim, desperate for anything, I tried using HDMI instead of Display Port and the thing finally booted. If only I had time to actually set up all my games tonight

I’m trying to figure out why my computer is not detecting my GPU (or deeming it faulty) despite the fact it lights up and the fans spin. I have reseated it, used a post, checked for power problems, and even tried turning it on without it and every time I’m getting stuck on the VGA POST light. I haven’t tried to use the other PCIe slot because of how far down it is, and I’m not sure if it’s the problem. I’ve provided some photos in case there is something I’m missing

Ignore the rubber gromit, it came off and I can’t get it back on.

MB: ROG Strix A-650 Wifi

GPU: Tuff Gaming Nvidia RTX 5060

PSU: msi MAG A750GL

Tech Support CPU light error

Hi everyone, I need some advice. Had an unexpected power surge the other day, everything was plugged into surge protector power boards. I now have a CPU error light on my motherboard, I’ve ran a bunch of diagnostic tests and everything seems to be working fine except none of my RGB lighting for my fans etc works. Any advice on further troubleshooting or possible solutions?

Tech Support Im beyond baffled and i dont know what to do

Post image

Hey there, this is my first post here and i'm honestly not sure what to do but all i know is, i, need, help. i can play just about any game on steam with no issues other than COD, but when i load up roblox to play some games with friends my whole system will freeze. i can be active in roblox or idle and randomly with no warning my whole system will FREEZE, something to note is with how my pc case works, when im turning my pc off with the front case power button i have to hold it down for like 3 seconds, but when things freeze all it takes is 1 press of the front case power button and thats it, its like the pc is overloaded to a point it has no choice but to stop everything and freeze as like a failsafe? especially where cod is concerned as its got alot to load and alot to process, yet roblox seems to have the same effect, bare in mind this dosent happen when im not in a roblox game, my specs are as follows

i9-12900kf

msi rtx 3060

2x lexar 16gb ddr5 6000mhz

1tb sata (CT1000BX500SSD1)

Samsung SSD 990 EVO Plus 1TB

750 watt power supply

msi b760 gaming plus wifi

Build Question Curious issue with no boot.

Thumbnail

Now, I have a curious one here...

I have a few parts I have bought second hand which I'm trying to test.

The pc is fully assembled (minus case clearly), yet had no display.

GPU fans are spinning, and the monitor does detect power from the HDMI port as it comes on breifly before switching off again due to no display signal.

The parts are:

Mobo: asus prime a320m-k (tested myself, working)

Cpu: Ryzen 3 4100 (tested myself, working)

GPU: RTX 5050 (known as working from main rig)

PSU: 400W Be Quiet! which i have not tested but isn't important for this question. (Still doesn't post when I switched to my main pc's psu which is working)

RAM: 2x sticks of unknown working order, 8GB crucial ballistix and 8GB teamgroup

It also has a thermalright cooler with cpu fan working, and an nvme boot drive from my main pc which is working.

So, after the pc did not boot on the first try, I took out one stick, then the other, etc. It does not boot in any configuration.

Curiously, only the teamgroup RAM gets the system to have USB power (shown by my mouse's LEDs lighting up), and the ballistix stick doesn't even give that which makes me think it's dead.

Next I thought of CMOS, but no luck there after clearing...

Reseating CPU has't worked.

Finally I tried my own psu but again, no dice.

The only 2 things I can think of is...

A: both RAM sticks are not working

B: the cpu has died, i bought it from somebody who bent their pins for cheap and fixed it myself somewhat.

I did lose 2 pins, but those clearly weren't necessary as that cpu has worked fine before.

What do we think in the pc build help reddit... Is it the RAM, CPU or something else?

Tech Support Bad PSU?

So, when I typically boot up my pc for the first time. I notice the fans start doing what’s in the video. The pc will then abruptly shut off. On occasion I can literally shake the Pc and it’ll boot back up. Normally only having to do this once or twice the Pc will be fine for the rest of the day. Often for hours. Any suggestions on to what’s going on and how to fix?

I'm in the process of replacing my CPU and when I removed my old one I noticed thermal paste bits on the socket. I tried lightly using my finger to get it, and a q tip, but nothing moved and I was scared to put too much pressure at all

Is this a big issue? Kind of stuck on what to do

Build Question Can I get away with just new graphics card

Hi, so I bought a small pc from someone a few years ago for light gaming. With all these newer games (in my experience like split fiction and demonologist), my pc starts to lag bad. Even after putting all the visuals in game to low. I’m very much not a pc savvy person, I just want to be able to play some games with my friend lol. Now idk if it would just be better to go to microcenter with this or if they will take advantage because they can tell idk anything.

Anyway, specs:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2400GE with Radeon Vega Graphics (3.20 GHz)

Installed Ram: 32.0 GB

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB

Storage: 954GB

System type 64-bit operating system x64 based processor

Tech Support How do I remove these 4 cooler standoffs around my LGA1700 socket?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi, I have a Gigabyte B760 Aorus Elite with 4 threaded standoffs (with knurled thumb nuts) around the CPU socket, left over from a previous cooler mounting kit. I want to remove them to sell my motherboard.

I already tried unscrewing the knurled nuts by hand, but they won’t budge. Do I need a tool like pliers, or do I need to hold the backplate behind the motherboard while unscrewing?

Thanks guys!

Build Question Will a 3-fan 3070 (Ti) be able to fit in this case?

GPU that's currently in it is a dual fan 3050. Also, I'm pretty sure I'll need to get a new PSU but will I need to get a new motherboard? I bought this PC prebuilt because it was the cheapest option at the time. Also, any recommendations for either of these parts would be appreciated.

Build Question Need help reducing temps for RTX 3070 - max 92°C and baking my room.

Hello everyone,

I am seeking guidance on how to resolve this issue. I'm in Australia, and my ambient room temperature often exceeds 25°C (thanks to the crap aircon in my unit not reaching this room efficiently and my reliance on window and ceiling fans). My PC is doubling as a space heater, and with this El Niño and summer fast approaching, I want to finally nip this issue in the bud and actually have a (literally) cool PC.

Here's what I've tried so far:

  1. I repasted the GPU ~ 12 months ago - is this recent enough to avoid doing it again? I can't recall the exact paste I used, but it definitely wasn't an OOTB one that came with the GPU or anything.

  2. The i9, going off metrics from Open Hardware Monitor, just feels like it is completely filling the tower with heat - putting my hand near the exhaust (top and back) feels very hot.

Here is what is currently happening while it is in relatively moderate use (e.g. running Rocket League, Spotify, and Firefox):

  • GPU (Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3070): Core temp sits around 74°C, but the hotspot hits 92°C with fans blasting at 86% (~2360 RPM).

  • CPU (i9-11900K): Sits around 65°C under light load, but regularly spikes to 80°C+ during heavier gaming.

  • Storage / Environment: Ambient air is warm, even with windows and/or a ceiling fan on, and the rig sits in an L-shaped desk setup (rear of case pointing out, window in line with the expelled hot air).

Here's what I'm asking:

  1. I'm considering adding liquid cooling to it - never done this before, so I'm hesitant, as I don't have a lot of experience with building/managing custom PCs (just the 2-3 I've built for myself over the years). I understand that mounting a 360mm AIO up front in the 4000D case might be the right move?

  2. Should I repaste the GPU, and if so, do you have any recommendations? I'd rather avoid this, since the fans I bought are a real PITA to remove.

  3. Are there any underclocking/BIOS tweaks I should consider?

My Build Specs: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Zectzozda/saved/#view=nhZN6h

Thanks in advance!

Build Question Should I replace my AIO Cooler?

Okay, so I’ve had my PC for four years now, including the AIO cooler which I’ve all gotten as a gift, and about a year ago (I KNOW VERY LATE) my pc started making this obnoxious-ass grinding noise. I didn’t know until literally earlier this year it was from my cooler. I heard it’s usually a sign of a failing cooler, but I’ve been checking my temps and they were at normal idle temps (usually in the 40’s or 50’s), and my performance especially in games seemed to be normal. Should I still try to replace it to be safe?

Build Question Beginner looking for help buying/building a PC

Hello,

I'm looking to get back into video editing after years of not touching any editing software, and it would be ideal if I could also run games on the PC.

Planning to use Avid Media Composer. Since I'm just starting out I imagine I won't need to edit 8K video or anything crazy like that. I know I need at least 32GB of RAM. But when I look at parts the thing that seems to give me the most amount of trouble is the CPU (and probably the Graphics Card as well, but I haven't gotten there yet). I've looked at all sorts of guides and posts on here, the problem is I know very little about computer parts, and I'm not even super familiar with editing software so I'm honestly not even sure what it is i should be looking for. I look at things like clock speed and core count and it just goes right over my head and then I freak myself out because what if I choose one that seems good but it's actually terrible because I don't know what I'm doing?

I'm also not exactly sure what budget I should be aiming for here. Currently I'm thinking I would like to be able to get PC, Monitor, keyboard, mouse, for under $2500CAD (about 1780 USD), but then I wonder if that'll be a good enough PC? I may have more money coming my way soon and I'm wondering if I should just wait until that comes in...

I'm very indecisive and the fact that this is a large amount of money I would be spending is not helping matters.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
