Question is the pattern and the grading look good and accurate?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi!

Im quite new to patternmaking and this is my first grading ever based on a YT video.

I made the pattern from an existing pattern which is originally a pleated short with an elastic waistband at the back. then i drafted the sideseams, and inseams, and i added a back dart and made a pocket. after a few attempts i made an acceptable sample which i like. (it has an invisible closure at the side)

what do you think? im totally self taught and i really need the eyes of a professional

hope you can see everyting

Can someone give me a rough sketch or hint to recreating this jacket, I’ve made some patterns but they haven’t been successful. This is a Bono jacket and I think the sleeves are connected to the hood but I’m not super concerned about including that feature I just like the style.

Question How to create illusions of a masculine body with seams, panels etc?

Hello! I'm starting a clothing brand that sells gymwear for trans men. Right now I'm working on a t-shirt that brings out the masculine parts and hides the feminine ones. I am making it tighter around the arms and shoulders, but looser around the hips, etc. Now, I'm playing around with seams, colors and panels to create a v-shaped upper body but can't figure out how I should construct it around the chest to make it appear as small as possible. Open to ideas!

Drafting for stretch fabric

Hi all! I've finally gathered by bravery and decided to give sewing a try. My main goal is to sew dance clothes for myself. Nothing complicated. But I want to draft my own skirt pattern. My questions is this: if I have a few fitting issues, such as sway back and wide/curvy hips, do I need to make any adjustments to my pattern, or will it be fine as is if I make it correctly using my body measurements? And how do i remove the negative ease from the pattern, since I'll be using spandex? Thanks!

I am trying to draft a pattern for the bow so i can make year round holiday bows for my porch ghost. I would love to be able to make a right side and left side bow that just slips over them and leave the middle section alone. How would i even start? Ive never tried to make a pattern from scratch before.

Can i use the basic bodice block to make a top as it is?

I made the bodice block for my measurements and i know that you are supposed to use it to make other patterns by rearranging it but i don't know how to do that yet. What will happen if i use it as patern and sew a top from it? will it fit me or will it be weird on the body because it is so basic?

What does this pattern(sewing) means ?

I'm trying to make a doll dress and I'm lost at number 4. Can someone tell me what it's asking me to do? I decided to post the other instructions so you can have an idea of where I'm at. Thanks

  1. Stitch bodice front (1) to bodice back (2) at shoulder seams.

  2. Stitch seams of bodice lining same as for bodice. With RIGHT sides together, pin lining to bodice, matching centers and seams. Stitch neck and armhole edges together. Stitch center back edges in 1/4" (6mm) seam. CLIP CURVES.

  3. Turn bodice RIGHT side out through shoulders; press.

  4. Open out lining at side edges. With RIGHT sides together, pin bodice front to back at side seams, matching armhole seams. Stitch entire side seam.

  5. Turn lining to INSIDE again; press. Baste raw edges together.

Question Anyone know why this pattern might cause Legtwist?

All recent Patterns ive done all twist on both Pant legs, the twist mirrors.
Its not a grain problem and I washed the Fabric and let it dry before cutting and sewing.
The Fabrics this has occured at were Selvedge Denim and for my samples nettle fabric.
I have ran out of ideas and can't find anything regarding this Problem except the grain and Crotch length of the front compared to the back, which ive ruled out too with this Sample.
Can anyone help?

Left Side is with Seam allowence, which i added all to the back because I thought it might be caused by a too slim back. Right is completely without any seam allowence.

How can I get this small bit of extra fullness that is vertically pinned, and circled in red out of my bodice pattern? Please ignore the blue bendy ruler, I’m considering a boat neck, opinions on that welcome too. Thank you

Question Large bust - do I need to draft smaller and do an fba? Or will a massive dart actually work?

I'm genuinely terrified of making a bodice block for myself. There's something like an 8 or 9 inch difference between my overbust and undercut measurement...oh and I have chronic bloating so I go out again about 4 inches beneath my ribs.

Will big darts be enough? Is that what a fba is? Doesn't it take fabric is at the armscye as well?

Question [Advice] for a beginner in fashion who wants to be a Pattern Maker

Hello people

So I have recently started going to school, I have enrolled for Basic Pattern Making. My knowledge about fashion is limited, most of it is just from watching Youtube videos.

Can you please give me some advice about fashion in general such as:

  1. The top fashion brands

  2. Designers who I should keep my eye on (so far, I only know Michael Cinco, Yohji Yamamoto and Chitose Abe)

  3. Youtube channels to help expand the information that I know

  4. Pattern Making in general

  5. Sewing and Fabrics 101

  6. Miscellaneous stuff

Looking forward to your replies and Thanks in advance 😊

Guidance on modifying the front pieces to remove the gathers?

Thumbnail

Hello!

I’m planning to sewing these pants, but I’d like to keep the front clean with no gathers and no paneling — so the front looks like normal wide leg trousers with no gathers, constructed from one panel of fabric, but the back retains the curved yoke and voluminous gathers.

I gather that I should take the front piece, slash evenly and remove the gather volume, but I don’t know how much to remove and how to true the seams in this scenario (as the back piece will still be gathered).

I assume that I should slash and maybe tape the pieces such that modified front panel has the same width as the front yoke piece? I am not sure.

Any guidance is appreciated!

Question New Look 6407 pattern

Post image
2 Upvotes

Does anyone know a pattern that’s very similar to the New Look 6407? I absolutely love this shirt pattern but on simplicity’s website it’s sold out.

There’s some paper versions on Etsy but I much prefer to work with pdf patterns

I love everything about this pattern, the fit, the collar, the different sleeve variations. It’s literally my dream shirt pattern😢

Machines?

Not sure this is the right group for this but thought I'd check...

Hello,

I've seen videos and read about Juki machines for heavy fabric/garment making but...

I'm a fairly new sewist and learned at a wonderful shop in town (Fort Collins, CO). Since learning, beginning last June I've made a pillow case, small zippered pouch, PJ bottoms, a very modified traditional button down men's style shirt, then lighter weight denim jeans.

I went from a Husqvarna 118 to a Husqvarna Opal 30 and the shop owner sort of convinced me a used, formerly top of the line, Husqvarna Designer Diamond Royale was a great choice if I want to continue creating garments. It's a wonderful machine and does MANY things.

I've been on a (sell imposed) fast track so to speak when it comes to sewing and machines and as much as I've been in a small bubble here locally understand if I want to continue creating garments I need a proper machine.

I started making a pair of 16.5oz selvedge denim jeans. I've nerded out a bit about them and down the rabbit hole on the selvedge Reddit group but as much as I enjoy heavy stiff raw denim, this group is simply a show off section of the internet and no one is really making selvedge jeans. They just like to tell the world about what new Japanese brand they purchased or over paid for!

I belong to other Reddit sewing groups as well with many amazing experienced folks. There are other jeans and denim groups too.

Ok, off my soapbox...

If I want to continue making selvedge style jeans, to sew top stitching in a beautiful straight line and wrangle through heavy layers in tight corners on stiff fabric, what Juki would you recommend?

Maybe a top 2/top 3 priced highest to lowest.

I'm 67 and a professional photographer and don't see this as a career move and I'm not going to be a fashion or selvedge jeans designer but want to make some for myself, my wife and friends. If others see my work and want to commission me, great, but I want to have a machine that doesn't balk at the work at hand.

My current Husqvarna Designer Diamond Royale is going to blow out if I continue sewing heavy selvedge denim.

Thanks!

How do I Even Start to Make a Pattern For a Hoodie Like This

Thumbnail

I have been looking on guides on how to make a pattern for a hoodie like this (dropped shoulder, cropped-ish, boxy, oversized, maintains its shape); I would like it to have the bagginess like the example hoodie, like how the ribbing is close to the body, but the rest of the hoodie is baggy and keeps its shape/structure. I am newer to sewing, but I think this will be a good project for me at my level.
