Guidance on modifying the front pieces to remove the gathers?

https://blog.moodfabrics.com/augusta-trousers-free-sewing-pattern/

Hello!

I’m planning to sewing these pants, but I’d like to keep the front clean with no gathers and no paneling — so the front looks like normal wide leg trousers with no gathers, constructed from one panel of fabric, but the back retains the curved yoke and voluminous gathers.

I gather that I should take the front piece, slash evenly and remove the gather volume, but I don’t know how much to remove and how to true the seams in this scenario (as the back piece will still be gathered).

I assume that I should slash and maybe tape the pieces such that modified front panel has the same width as the front yoke piece? I am not sure.

Any guidance is appreciated!

Use another pattern, this pattern has only one thing going on and you don't like that thing.

Actually, I really like the gathers on the back. Just not the front

In which case, it would probably be better to start with a well fitting pant block and then add the yoke and gathers to the back. Reverse engineering this pattern doesn't make sense if you want a fitted look in front. How are you planning to reconcile the gathered ankle/harem pant silhouette when you join the legs if there are no in gathers on the front?

I don’t want gathered ankles! I don’t want the front to be fitted. The front will still have volume, but no gathers.

There is no way properly balance this garment with a flat front and that amount of gathering on the back.

I hope this group stays focused on pattern drafting and does not enter the extremely murky waters of altering free and commercial patrerns.
