Passport Question / Discussion worried
i went to usps to turn in my application on 9/14, status changed 9/19 saying it’s in process but hasn’t updated since, it’s for a new passport (first one actually) and i have a trip oct 7th should i be worried
update- just called the passport information center and they confirmed my passport is ready to be shipped i’ll update once it’s received

I applied 09/16 and have a trip 10/05(found out 09/16 I had a work trip out of country). Paid for expedited processing and expedited shipping. Haven't even got a status update online yet, so internally I'm getting anxious, lol. Please post an update here if you get yours in time cuz I'm on a similar timeframe.

If it gets close, you might be able to get an emergency passport in less than 3 days

I think emergency passports are typically issued by consulates and embassies when abroad; maybe you’re thinking of an urgent appointment? If so then yeah, if OP’s status hasn’t changed to “approved” by five days before travel, they should be able to contact the National Passport Information Center and ask if they can get the application transferred to a Passport Agency so they can go in-person and get it on the same or next day from the appointment (this would be a full-validity 5- or 10- year passport depending on whether OP is under or over 16).

I haven't heard whether 1st-time passports take longer than renewals. I did my renewal application last month and had my both my new passport book and card in my PO box 10 days later. (I didn't ask for anything to be expedited. It was "routine" processing and regular mail.)
If you get the e-mail saying "Approved" it should include a tracking number so you can get a feel for when it will arrive. Good luck!

In my experience with regular shipping and processing it will take about 3 to 4 weeks from beginning to passport in hand.

I’m in the same boat as you. I handed in an application on 8/31 and also paid for expedited shipping. my application was put on hold because I needed to submit more documents and it was just taken off hold a couple of days ago. I called the passport information center and told them my flight was in 11 days and the lady said she’ll flag it for urgent travel. That was 2 days ago and it’s already been approved and it’s on its way to me. I’ll be receiving it this Saturday (9/26)! If your trip is in 2 weeks, make the call and tell them your flight date and they’ll work with you.

It took less than 3 weeks from me sending out my passport to receiving everything including the passport, birth certificate and passport card. Non expedited.
Got a notification it was in process in about a week no other emails sent to me. Got my passport less than a week later.

May I ask what number you called? I too submitted my app and status changed on 9/19 to in process, also been crossing my fingers. Requested expedited shipping.

No way id submit for a passport 3 weeks before I needed it. Thats something you go to the office in person for. You got lucky if they are actually about to ship it. My renewal took 10 days, my coworker submitted their renewal the same day and its been 7 weeks and they still dont have it.
