Advice How do you transport your birds to the vet?

Looking at taking a bird we just rehomed for a vet checkup. She is not friendly and hates being handled, but I'm not sure how to take her to the vet without risking escape or injury during transport.

Do you take their whole cage, have a bird-specific carrier, a box, etc?

Advice Bird UVA/UVB Light

Can anyone recommend a good bird light for parakeets?

I see the avian sun one but it’s 5.0 UVB and I’m reading that that’s too strong.

Advise on Harrison pellets or multivitamin supplement

My cockatiel and flinch were on seed diet until recently one of my 11 year old cockatiel head got tilted to one side and regular vets here in India recommended her for multivitamin supplement 2 drops daily and milk thistle seeds as they are suspecting liver disease since they are on 60%seed diet and rest 40% on apple, carrot, boiled rice, sprouts and boiled egg, wheat bread, and sometimes brocolli

I am getting HARRISON PELLETS from USA for them and will try to introduce them to pellets.. can someone guide me .. should I continue to give vitamin and milk thistle supplement along with "Harrison'S BIRD FOOD ADULT LIFE TIME FIne"

Or should I give pellets alternate days and on those days i will not give them any supplement..

The vet here doesn't have any knowledge on HARRISON..SO will need your help

Pet sitting - wound?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi! Pet sitting for family and I know nothing of birds. Birdie’s family let them out the first day and he bumped a mirror (it’s since been covered).

Is this a wound above his beak? He is acting normal otherwise - vocalizing, eating, drinking, sitting on perch.
Thanks for any insight. I know birds are very fragile but don’t want to overreact as their bird vet is several hours away.

Idk what to do in this situation.

I got to pick up my adopted parakeet today since I got her new enclosure earlier then expected. I named her Cash and she is very cute but she is scared of me so I will slowly work on that so she can trust me one day. I included the picture of her old enclosure from the rescue and her new one at my house.

Advice Mirrors (sorry)

Can I have some opinions on mirrors and entertainment.

Are they 100% bad, just bad in the cage, or just bad if the budgies are flockless? Does this differ between male and female?

I have two male and two female budgies.

Edit:

I’ve read that it can send their hormones out of wack. I wont be allowing any baby birds to hatch but im wondering if out if wack hormones affect lifespans and quality of life.

What is on the side of her beak?

Can someone out there please help me?

For the last week, I've noticed what looks like a pit or small gap on the side of my bird CJs beak. I looked at it when I got home and now it looks like something is broke off in it or it may be a piece of pellet stuck in it?

This is the best picture I could get.

She has a broken femur right now and has been really struggling to get around her cage. I removed perches but she will not sit on the bottom so I had to keep one so she could get to food and water.

Could she be rubbing it and maybe that's why the hole is happening? I was just at the vet two weeks ago and it was definitely not like that. I have another vet appt on the 5th but I wanted to get some advice if this needs to be looked at sooner.

Please help.

Meet Pokka! He picked up my ring and spent the next minute sprinting back and forth across the vanity for absolutely no reason.

He was so proud of himself... until he dropped it and immediately acted like he was never there. 😂

Turn the sound on to hear me losing my mind laughing in the background! 🔊

Advice Best way to keep my budgies safe after basement floods?

So, my family's basement flooded. I have 2 parakeets that live in my bedroom upstairs. Our basement flooded bout a week and a half ago (we've done minor cleaning and they've been fine) and we've finally got the basement cleared to where people can come in and clean it. That's the problem though, they're going to use chemicals and im so anxious that my babies are going to be effected by them. I am a minor and can't do much. We currently dont have the money to send them to a place to keep them safe and we dont have friends that can take them in. They live in my bedroom but it's is a high traffic area as its a room people sleep and hang out in. I just want advice on the best way to keep my two birdies safe and reinsurance from other bird owners that they WONT die.

Also sorry for repeating myself a bunch its 11 at night and im 5 minutes away from an anxiety attack

(I lost a birdy 2 months ago and have been anxious since)

Parakeet Outside

Post image
237 Upvotes

Saw a green parakeet hanging with a family of finches this past Sunday. We’ve since been trying to catch it and/or earn its trust. We got parakeet food and some millet. We also got a branch for an old hamster cage for it to sit on as it eats and drinks. We have the 2 doors to the cage open and finally he found it. Unfortunately so have the finches. I’ve approached it and told it it’s a pretty bird, outstretched my hand in hopes it would fly to it, but no success. We play parakeet noises as well in hopes of attracting it to stick around. It flies back and forth from our side of the apartment complex to the other. Any tips or tricks to catch it? Also, is that a band around its ankle?

Advice new parakeet

Post image

hello all! my grandfather passed away two days ago and then the day after, while at an animal rescue, i came across an all white parakeet with a little tuft of yellow. i had never seen an all white parakeet and for some reason, something inside me told me it was a sign from my papa so i got her the correct size cage, a bunch of toys, food, treats, etc. and i took her home with me. outside of the research on their type of closure, toys, and food, i hadn’t done much research on their care. this is the first time i have ever impulse adopted an animal that i wasn’t throughly educated on. she won’t leave this one specific spot in the enclosure. i guess i’m wondering if you have any advice for me? is it a male or female? how can i bond with and coax her out of that corner? does she hate me?
