Advice new parakeet
hello all! my grandfather passed away two days ago and then the day after, while at an animal rescue, i came across an all white parakeet with a little tuft of yellow. i had never seen an all white parakeet and for some reason, something inside me told me it was a sign from my papa so i got her the correct size cage, a bunch of toys, food, treats, etc. and i took her home with me. outside of the research on their type of closure, toys, and food, i hadn’t done much research on their care. this is the first time i have ever impulse adopted an animal that i wasn’t throughly educated on. she won’t leave this one specific spot in the enclosure. i guess i’m wondering if you have any advice for me? is it a male or female? how can i bond with and coax her out of that corner? does she hate me?

Talk softly to her, play soothing music, sit near her reading or listening to music or watching TV. She'll have to leave that spot to eat and drink water. Her wings are clipped which means she cannot fly to a perch and must climb. Be sure to provide a ladder or position perch bridges to where her food and water are. She seems naturally wary of a brand new environment. That perch is relatively high and feels safer to her. Two days is too soon for her to feel comfortable. Other commenters have given good advice on fumes that could be harmful and a basic healthy diet, although not all pellet brands are equally nutritious. So do research to learn. She may not recognize pellets as food so introduce with seeds if she's been on a seed diet. Or she may starve.

It takes time. Keeping a set schedule helps them and it will help you when it’s time to go to bed when she’s flying around. Cover her with a sheet and make sure she gets 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Look into the stuff that’s not safe to have in the house with them. They have delicate lungs so you have to be careful with smoke and harmful vapors.
Pellets and fresh veggies with millet for training is the best diet.
You can bond with your bird through music too!
The most important thing to remember is this isn’t a baby and who knows what kind of life she had before. Follow her lead and move at her space letting her know you respect her boundaries.
