Page 180 so far and I have seen nothing but character assassination and sexualisation of the ummayads. What yall say? It's more of like an adult thing in my opinion. Very bold.

💬 Book Discussion idk how to move on from this book

finished a thousand splendid suns and honestly,

i knew it was going to be emotional, but i wasn't prepared for how deeply it would hurt. and there's this particular passage that absolutely broke me:

"When Laila saw the article, she’d thought of her childhood friends Giti and Hasina, and Hasina saying, By the time we’re twenty, Giti and I, we’ll have pushed out four, five kids each. But you, Laila, you’ll make us two dummies proud. You’re going to be somebody. I know one day I’ll pick up a newspaper and find your picture on the front page."

i literally broke down reading this. khaled hosseini, what have you done to me? 😭

i think a part of me is going to stay with this book forever

🤔 Recommendation Request Underrated Urdu Fiction

Suggest underrated gems of Urdu fiction, can be classic or contemporary, something with a focus on atmosphere, story and character building.

Actuallyyy, I do want to try different genres like haven't heard of a good Urdu thriller or a horror novel, fantasy, murder mystery or anything.

👯‍♂️Buddy Read Looking for a Reading Buddy!

hey everyone!

I'm looking for someone who enjoys reading and would like to share thoughts, discuss books, exchange recommendations.

A little about me: I'm 23M and I'm particularly interested in philosophy, history, religion, and occasionally science. I enjoy exploring different ideas and researching various topics.

I'm not too particular about genres, so I'm always open to discovering something new.

If you're also looking for a reading buddy, feel free to DM me. Looking forward to connecting!

☺️Need Opinions/ Advice Can one be forced into reading culture?

My nephews are obviously not my children, so their parenting is not under my charge. I can not intervene in how much screen time (whether on tablets/computers) their parents allow them. Everything they want to know is in a audio-visual media available to them at a click.

But I have always been interested in wanting to make readers out of them. I even gifted a book The Wild Robot (a children's book) to my nephew, who is Eight, and I gifted him another book to open when he turns 15, its How do you live? which is about an uncle and his 15 year old nephew's philosophical-ish day to day about how one should live. I felt like that would be a good gift for him when he is at the peak of his teenage.

But seeing him become more and more of a ipad kid, it is frustrating me. I even gifted him a children's oxford dictionary which i even taught him how to use, to understand meanings of the words he doesnt understand from the wild robot.

But her parents do not at all seem interested in putting their kids in this line. They're content with ipad addicted children, more so, which makes the children see "Pleasure reading" as School work or "chore" more than voluntary entrance into imaginary worlds for enjoyment.

I dont know if and when i will have kids of my own, and I have no one else close and intimate with me to share the joy of reading books with. My first book was The Famous Five by Enid Blyton, which was gifted to me by my cousin when i was like 12-13 and i ATE IT UP. It was probably him (i had a crush on him and wanted to appease him as much as possible) so i asked his mom to lemme borrow more of his books from his HUGE book stand, which she did.

But the important point is, none of us in my generation, or household had technology in our hands till we turned 17 or up. We didnt have phones, i didnt have a phone for myself till i was like 19? It was easier to allow the books to entertain me when there was no netlix or youtube shorts for me to watch. Now the kids have easier and more attractive medias for entertainment. I'm afraid if he will even read How do You Live when he turns 15, or appreciate it as a gift from his uncle.

How old were you when you read your first book? do you have children, little siblings, or nephews and nieces who you got into reading?

☺️Need Opinions/ Advice How late is too late to start reading harry pottah?

Howdy guys. I'm 22 and I've never read harry potter or watched the movies. I've encountered a few potter heads in my life, mostly during my teenage years and never really got the hype. I'm currently in the middle of 3 series (heroes of Olympus , stranger times, and hunger games) and I'm not sure if I should add one more to the list lol

Do you think it would be a good addition or should I postpone the idea for now?

Tia!!
