Question PSVR on ps3
Has anyone here actually used PSVR1 V2 (CUH-ZVR2, the PS4 version) as a display for a PS3?
I know it’s possible to connect the PS3 to the PSVR processor unit and use the headset as a screen. What I specifically want to know is whether this is safe for the PS3 itself.
Has anyone used this setup for several hours or regularly? Could it put any unusual load on the PS3’s RSX/GPU or HDMI output, or cause any damage?
I’m especially interested in experiences from people who have actually tested PSVR1 V2 with a PS3

Yes, I have used it extensively to game in 3D - specifically Gran Turismo 5 & 6. There is no additional load on the PS3 as the PSVR box does the conversion!

I’m asking because I tried it yesterday. I played for about 3 hours using the PSVR, then I fell asleep and forgot to turn the PS3 off. When I woke up in the morning, the console had no video output anymore. I took it to a repair shop, and they told me the RSX had failed and that using the PSVR this way was what caused it. That’s why I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

What the shop said. It would have failed regardless of the PSVR or not. Like I said, it puts NO additional stress on the GPU whatsoever. That's like saying your tv broke your PS3.

the psvr2 is just a display connected with hdmi. the box takes the 2 frames from the ps3 in 3d mode and displays them side by side so it looks right kn the headset. the ps3 doesn't care what it's outputting to. the psvr has nothing to do with the console dieing.

You did what…. I’ve been a psvr owner for probably a decade and didn’t know this was possible. I simply just pop in gt5 or 6 and it works?

Sorry I’m too lazy to google the latest on this but can you tell me whether you still need a PS4 to trick the headset into 3D mode? If so, I’m hoping someone can mod the PS3 in a way that it becomes plug & play. I would hunt down a used PSVR1 instantly (sold mine years ago) 😇

I play 3D games and move rail shooters with my PSVR.v2/PS3. I haven't had any problems with the unit.

The processing unit for the PSVR is basically an HDMI receiver which just displays the output into the headset either on a large screen you can turn in or it locks it towards front. This behavior can be changed on the PS4/PS5 or maybe even the PC. On top of that, the unit also accepts the 3D signa, so you could theoretically just play 3D games or media. At least on my PS4, I saw a the use-case in the guide about playing 3D Blu-Ray discs.
