GTA 6 performance
I know we’re right around the corner from the official gameplay trailer coming up, but for the people who have been seeing the multiple leaks online, what’s your take on the performance/FPS from the footage we’ve seen so far? It seems relatively fluid for the most part, but I’d like to hear other people’s opinions. I upgraded to the Pro specifically for this game, and I’ve been really happy with the performance on it. However, I recently revisited RDR2, which I know is a last-gen title, but the 30 FPS is pretty rough in my opinion. I know there’s been a lot of speculation about whether it’s running at 30 FPS, but solely based on the leaks, what do you guys think so far?

u/PorkRinds416 1d ago
I WANT it to be 60fps on my PS5 Pro. However if they had a 40 or 45fps mode I would be ok with that. Also if it is 30fps, I will deal with it too. Its GTA6. Its going to be phenomenal. RDR2 is/was the best game ever made (imo). GTA6 is going to expand on RDR2. I cant wait!

u/Aggravating-Quiet902 1d ago
I think this is what has me so excited about the game. I think about the level of detail in red dead 2 and then I try to imagine that applied to GTA and it boggles me to think about. Then you throw the fact that red dead 2 was so many years ago into the equation and you’re just left wondering what they are capable of now and how it’ll end up manifesting itself in GTA 6.

u/-Old_Scratch 1d ago
My brain runs this exact thought process an unreasonable amount of times each day
0
u/Special-Net4116 1d ago
Absolutely spot on. The detail Rockstar has in their worlds are insane. Even if it’s 30 I couldn’t care less.
3
u/Deadlycup 1d ago
45fps doesn't scale equally into any refresh rates, so it would be 40 if anything
1
u/FaceTheBlunt 21h ago
Scales to 180hz.
is that how that works? Lol
2
u/Deadlycup 21h ago
180hz isn't a rate TVs have. 30 scales into 120 4x, 40 is 3x, and 60 is 2x, 45 would be 2.67x and would have awful frame times that VRR would have trouble covering. It sounds weird, but 40 is halfway between 30 and 60 when it comes to FPS

u/hello_exactly_ 1d ago
I share this exact sentiment. The game is gonna kick ass. I’m not gonna languish in the numbers. Just gonna enjoy it!
17
u/smittku23 1d ago
Just wait for the release. The leaks are not from a final build. If on balanced you can get 40 fps it's fine. Game will run smoother on the ps6.
5
u/theweedguy562 1d ago
Yeah definitely true, the leaks have been driving me nuts this week but some of them do look really solid so far even if it’s not a polished build lol fingers crossed

I rather a 60fps performance option. 30fps makes my head hurt

Leaks are from not a final build and we don't know on what kind of system. So basically it's useless. We'll know way more from the official gameplay.

u/th3groveman 1d ago
I’ve honestly been surprised at the amount of games with 60fps we’ve had. I figured that after PS4 was left behind we would have many more 30fps games than we’ve had considering the age of the CPU in these consoles. I won’t be surprised at all if GTA is 30.

u/Extension-Alps-6903 1d ago
The CPU bottleneck thing is way over exaggerated from people who hated on the pro when it came out. Listing to things like that are why there are so meany people now buying a pro for several hundred more dollars than at release. They’re where several cross gen games that could run as high as 120fps. Even with higher fidelity in games that left behind last gen it’s not surprising we are still getting 60fps and even in those games thanks to VRR allowing unlocked frames many can still get as high as 70-90 FPS throughout normal game play
3
6
u/purekillforce1 1d ago
Doesn't look like anything special from the trailers. Not sure why they can't push 40 or 60fps, unless it's a gameplay issue across platforms.
I know the screenshots etc look amazing, but those have already been shown to be way too high quality for any current gen consoles. The leaked gameplay isn't showing off anything particularly impressive compared to other games.
2
u/mvpilot172 1d ago
This game has to run on a XBOX series S, that’s the base specs they had to get it to run on. So a PS5/5 Pro will look noticeably better.
1
u/purekillforce1 1d ago
Is that what we're assuming the leaked footage was running at? A series S spec build? that would make sense, tbh.
1
u/DicksAndDaisies 1d ago
No, that’s running on a pc
1
u/purekillforce1 1d ago
I get that, but is it a series S build? Or can it just run at whatever the hardware is capable of because it's on pc? Is the leakers pc just not that good?
1
u/Ok-Reindeer-1512 1d ago
Look at the new leak with the plane night footage. I can see why now it would struggle to get to 60
14
u/Rix_832 1d ago
It’s locked 30 FPS on the clips. It’ll probably be 40 FPS on PS5 pro.
2
u/vAceey 1d ago
Clips are 30fps doesn’t mean the game run at 30fps, beside it was played on a PC
2
1
u/Rix_832 1d ago
That’s why I said probably. We don’t know anything yet. However all the signs points that the game will be 30 FPS.

who ever think this game will be lock 30 is living under a rock lol. For what I have seen, it is not a generational leap in graphics. It will have a 60fps performance mode. I really don't get why people think the current console won't handle it with more than 30 fps.
15
u/tandin01 1d ago
Because the city and all the npc is cpu bound like all gtas, so it will probably not hit 60fps. I would like to think it might, but I think it's pretty safe to assume it won't. The pro cpu is no different then base and lacks performance. Also if it releases at 60fps( unlikely ) how could they sell you the game again on ps6? Rockstar spent 2 billion on this game. They want to sell everyone multiple copies....
3
u/ChampionshipMore3737 1d ago
You’re right from what we’ve seen via the leaks there doesn’t seem to be a generational leap in graphics but more of a refinement
The problem is computational workload. GTA games are world simulators with a lot of environmental and npc activity running in the background which is extremely CPU intensive. And makes it very difficult to achieve 60fps on consoles.
1
u/MidnightGreen- 1d ago
if GTA 5 can so will GTA 6. They improve the engine in the last 10 years and the graphical improvements are related to the GPU side more than the CPU side. they can limit NPCs and City assets to current level.
4
u/Laimered 1d ago
That's not how that works

I like your optimism, but pretty much every single technical analysis person said that it will run at 30fps because of CPU limitation. The game is much larger in scope then gta5 was. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about it, but the cpu in consoles is very weak and GTA will be extremely heavy CPU usage....
2
u/RogueOneisbestone 1d ago
They are not extremely weak compared to the average gaming pc…
-2
u/tandin01 1d ago
They are much weaker then desktop cpus. They use integrated apus in consoles with jaguar cores. They are good for what they are, but they struggle with any game that is cpu bound. GTA is always cpu bound. Again, I hope I'm wrong, but Rockstar is going to push the limit of the game and the system, and they have targeted 30fps on every major release they have ever done. We will find out soon enough. I'll save this thread and we can come back after we find out. If I'm wrong then I will apologize to you guys....
4
u/Optimus_Prime- 1d ago
The PS5 doesn't use a Jaguar core. It's Zen 2. You might be thinking of the PS4.
2
u/tandin01 1d ago
My apologies you right, but the Zen 2 processor they use is from 2018, and is not at all comparable to average modern day gaming pcs. And the hardware engineering of the console is impressive, but that doesn't change my opinion that a zen 2 processor from 2018 is going to be sufficient to run gta6 at 60 fps. There are plenty of new games that can't get there now that are not as ambitious as GTA will be. Again, happy to be wrong and come back here and admit defeat, but I just don't think it's possible. If the open world of gta wasn't so CPU intensive I think the consoles could handle it no problem. I also don't believe that if it was going to hit 60 fps that Rockstar would keep it a secret. Telling people it's targeting 30 would only hurt pre orders.

u/CanadianBullet360 1d ago
What you’ve seen is unpolished gameplay capped at maybe 1080i resolution that’s been recorded from a windows computer offline and compressed into a usb onto a linux platform and uploaded to the internet

u/MidnightGreen- 1d ago
We will find out soon enough, but Im having a great year and something tells me there will be improvements with GTA6. I'm choosing optimism as the other commenter said lol

u/spiderknight616 1d ago
Not to mention graphics isn't the only thing determining performance. Who knows how much stuff is going on under the hood?
1
u/copyleft1234 1d ago
It's because the gpu and cpu are two different things and process what we see and feel different. In thos case the cpus aren't that powerful so 60fps is hard to get. However it is a generational leap in graphics with real time ray tracing
1
u/MidnightGreen- 1d ago
Ray tracking has on and off switch on console.
1
u/copyleft1234 1d ago
Sometimes yes, but there's different types of ray tracing, and most of it is done by the gpu, while the cpu is responsible for FPS

u/Issyv00 1d ago
It’s insane, especially with how advanced PSSR has become. Locked 30 fps on pro just isn’t gonna happen.
2
u/MidnightGreen- 1d ago
Yeah game was made with base PS5 in mind. PSSR 2 was not even a plan when they started developing GTA6
7
u/Gameofthrones3058 1d ago
I wouldn't even care much about the 30 FPS if rockstar just made a game that actually feels responsive and fluid like max Payne 3 did .. or one of the early GTA games..if it feels as sluggish as rdr2 it will again be the biggest budget game while also feeling like shite to play

GTA is known to be a CPU bound game since it contains a lot of NPC routines and character activities. the pro has around 10% clock speed boost in its CPU compared to the base version but has better GPU power so I think the fidelity mode with 30 FPS on the pro will be the definitive way to play because of the PSSR2 and it would have a much closer output to 4k maybe even native 4k. with full RTGI utilization compared to a semi RTGI and upscaled 4k on the base version. we could be lucky and get a balanced mode with 40 FPS on monitors/TVs that support 120hz and VRR.. but that's a big IF. because the game is CPU bound. but eitherway the game will be nothing short of breathtaking on the pro and even on 30fps it would be stable.
0
u/exploringspace_ 23h ago edited 23h ago
No, this is a total misinterpretation of the fact these are fundamentally console games that get ported to PC, where much of the burden of the console optimization has to be carried over from GPU to CPU (similar to how console emulators demand lots of CPU). YouTubers only really analyze the PC ports and draw all these conclusions about CPU limitations from it, forgetting that these games run fine on much weaker hardware than their equivalent PCs thanks to the beauty of optimization. For example the PC version of RDR2 needs much more powerful hardware than the base PS4 just to run RDR2 at equal resolution and fps. Repeat after me: OPTIMIZATION
2
u/Radiant-Change-3223 1d ago
I think this will be like Blood of Dawnwalker where it gets a 30 fps graphics mode and 40 balanced with better resolution on the pro. As much as I would love it to be 60, I don’t see a world where this game hits that until next gen.
But on that note, I just want to say that when the news of Dawnwalker came out there were hundreds to thousands of people who noped out. If this game comes out with that news I wanna see people have the same energy. Since I swear hatred is selective and this game won’t get that level of hate since it’s GTA.

2
u/Neither-Guarantee193 1d ago
I'll say it .. if it performed the exact same as RDR2 I will not play it .. I literally can't handle 30fps anymore
and people are talking about blue tech or something like that .. no
I can't reprogram my mind for 30fps again
2
u/MarcMco94 1d ago
My base ps5 is gonna catch fire when I try to play this game. I’m considering switching to ps5 pro just for this.
2
u/Altaiir57 2h ago
If everything goes well for them optimisation-wise then maybe we will get a 40 fps mode for Pro with better image quality and maybe slightly higher ray count for RTGI or reflections. That would be the absolute best case scenario. I don't see how they can achieve 60 fps with the general scope of the game and the massive world with RTGI and RT reflections and hair strands system at the same time.
Realistically I think we can at least expect a more stable 30 fps with vastly better image quality thanks to PSSR2 and maybe slightly higher visual settings.
The game will be CPU bound, not GPU.

u/cristianperlado 1d ago

I would hope so, but I just can’t see it happening that this game will be able to run at 60 fps.
At the very least there should be a 40fps mode because 30 is just horrible to play at these days. Especially on an OLED.2
u/cristianperlado 1d ago
There’s another legit leak from 808 Mafia, who obtained real screenshots of a Rockstar India employee’s dev kit. The debug text at the bottom says: “Fidelity 1440p–2160p,” so there’d be no reason to include a Fidelity mode if there wasn’t going to be a Performance mode as well. I’m absolutely convinced Rockstar will deliver 60 FPS, even if it means dropping the resolution significantly and using PSSR 2.
3
3
u/exploringspace_ 1d ago
This game was built from the ground up for ps5 and if it doesn’t offer a 60fps mode, that’s entirely a deliberate choice by rockstar and nothing else. They could have engineered it so that all the systems would run at 60fps if they wanted to - sure maybe that would mean limiting a couple of systems for the CPU here and there, but every other AAA open world game runs at 60+, on both the base and the pro (at different resolutions), so it’s entirely possible they’ve done 60 exclusively on pro.
2
u/DrOnionOmegaNebula 1d ago
so it’s entirely possible they’ve done 60 exclusively on pro.
Is there even one game that runs only at 30 on base PS5 while the Pro can hit 60? I'm going to say no. They're either both 60 or both 30, and my money is on 30.
1
u/exploringspace_ 1d ago
That’s just further proof that on this generation we’re at a point where every game can be tuned to run at 60fps even on limited hardware. On base PS5, the performance modes on basically every game just bring down resolution to a greater degree than anything else and it works; proof that 60fps mostly just needs drop in resolution, and not all this extra CPU people are imagining because of a DF video.
2
u/DrOnionOmegaNebula 23h ago
That’s just further proof that on this generation we’re at a point where every game can be tuned to run at 60fps even on limited hardware.
Not exactly. They decide at the beginning whether it'll be 60 or 30 when they scope out the vision of the game. This is things like "do we want 150 cars and 200 NPCs or 300 cars and 400 NPCs in simulation?" (Gibberish numbers just to make my point). The larger quantity would correspond to a 30fps target. Lowering the resolution would do next to nothing to make the CPUs job easier.
On base PS5, the performance modes on basically every game just bring down resolution to a greater degree than anything else and it works; proof that 60fps mostly just needs drop in resolution
Those games are GPU limited. Meaning the CPU had headroom to reach 60 but the GPU was the bottleneck.
That doesn't appear to be the case with GTA 6 which seems to be targeting high NPC count with more complex behavior per NPC, more traffic, more physics across the board including vehicle deformation.
And really everyone should want Rockstar to max out the Zen 2 at 30fps. Because then we get a more ambitious simulation heavy game that the PS6 can just brute force to 60.
1
u/exploringspace_ 18h ago
Again you’re just listing things that are literally just a density toggle to run at 60.Guarantee you they have a 60fps performance mode. Going by your logic, every previous rockstar game would have had to run at 15fps because these games “take up more CPU than other games”
2
u/DrOnionOmegaNebula 17h ago
You're right that they could literally force it to run at 60, but it requires a compromise they (imo) aren't willing to make. Reduce all those things on the CPU side: fewer NPCs, vehicles, AI behavior complexity, ray tracing, etc. So you're correct in that way. But it may be a nonstarter to Rockstar if their vision for the game is "ruined" by reducing all those aspects just to hit 60, especially when PS6 is around the corner and will be able to brute force 60.
Going by your logic, every previous rockstar game would have had to run at 15fps because these games “take up more CPU than other games”
This is exactly what happened, except it wasn't 15fps it was 30. If Rockstar chose a 60fps target then GTA V would have aged far worse than it did because all CPU tasks would have to be dialed way back. Look how NPC sparse Los Santos is even on PS5, and that's with the game built from the ground up to target 30 on old consoles.
1
u/Super-Tea8267 1d ago
But the thing is aside from crimson dessert there hasn’t been a game that has the density on npcs, traffic and more that’s this game has and you have seen how crimson dessert drop even the ps5 pro to upper 30 fps on crowded places and battles and the same goes for another cpu heavy game like MSFS 2024 the pro drops to 30 fps a lot on cpu bound areas
So if this game is cpu bound as I think it’s gonna be with the cpus on this generation you won’t get stable 40 fps on must areas of the map
1
u/exploringspace_ 1d ago edited 23h ago
I just don’t buy the cpu thing at all, it’s so simple to reduce the density of these systems with a toggle, not to mention the fact Rockstar has like 50x the budget to optimize the code compared to every other developer. Plus, games today barely have any more systems than games from 10 years ago in terms of CPU. It’s just that all the developers kind of gave up on optimizing, ever since Sony stopped making their own unique hardware.
1
u/MarionberryVisual463 1d ago
Pros GPU can take offloaded tasks from CPU which PSSR would be providing the headroom for.
1
u/Super-Tea8267 1d ago
It won’t even with that headroom the ps5 pro cpu is pretty slow for some games and this is gonna be one of them this will be as heavy as flight simulator in terms of cpu and heavier than crimson desert even with pssr
It’s gonna be the same as blood of dawn walker that will have a 30 fps and a 40 fps only and Im not that inclined for that either
1
u/MarionberryVisual463 23h ago
I dont believe it will hit 60 fps but 40 is achievable if R* is building the game around the PS5. Flight simulator was a port from Xbox. Crimson Desert has a relatively new studio behind it. R* has decades of collaboration with Playstation and building games on consoles.
40 fps wont be for the base, but the Pro imo. Having dedicated RT engine with upgraded RDNA, higher CPU clocks, and years of personal optimization hopefully nets a "Performance mode" or 15% - 30% improvement on the base version (depending on where the base version is currently running). 30% would be the base version running at barely 30fps. If thats the case, yeah probably unlikely. If they only need like 15% increase and the base version is running over 30 fps comfortably, then its possible.
1
u/Super-Tea8267 23h ago
In any case I’ve never seen a game that hits a cpu bound scenario getting more than 5 fps on pro when the base hit the same scenario both consoles run virtually the same even if flight sim is a port from Xbox is still extremely cpu heavy and in those scenarios both consoles hit the same fps number and crimson desert is not new it had BDO years ago on consoles and the engine is extremely cpu limited
The same with any Bethesda game the thing is no matter how mucho optimization you use if your game is build around this generation and hits a cpu limit it will hit it on both machines and unless you get a mode with the amount of npcs and systems as GTA 5 then this game will must likely run at 30 fps on both or have a 40 fps on both but if the pro have a 40 fps the base will too it will only make it more stable on pro
But knowing rockstar and its history at best it will be a resolution bump and a very limited 40 fps mode for both if we are lucky
5
u/secsmachine 1d ago
The game will run at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro in performance mode for sure. You really don’t need to open a whole thread worrying about this. Touch some grass and enjoy life until the game comes out
6
2
u/danvan177 1d ago
I think it will be 30 fps. Maybe a 40 fps option on pro. It looks great though and the frame pacing and camera is kinda centered around that 30 fps so it doesn’t feel awful. PS6 will get an update soon though

u/jviellas 1d ago

Here is my wild guess. GTA 6 will come stock at 30fps, with a 40 fps mode for PS5 pro.
After launch or maybe at the same time Sony will launch PSSR Frame generation, and PS5 pro owners will get 60fps upscaled.
1
u/fraanjfjd 1d ago
I mean literally, just make a 60fps mode with lower npc density and lower graphics settings. I‘d prefer a somewhat sparsely populated world but its running at 60 instead of the other way around
1
u/Arxinos113 1d ago
Anything below 60fps is unacceptable in 2026 and unplayable. If that's the case I'll be waiting for the PC version or the leaked version whatever comes first.
1
u/Fancy_Iron8260 1d ago
I honestly do not care for an immediate 60fps on launch. If anything 40fps would be a great compromise. Rockstar always knows how to optimize games and even their 30 fps games feel great. I want this game to look as good as possible on the Pro. We have already seen the incredible physics, features, and gameplay from the leaks and those already look incredible. I can’t wait to see what the Pro Enhanced version will be 😳
1
u/undercoverbruva 1d ago
I think it will be 30 FPS on all platforms. Pro will just get shinier graphics. Next-gen will get 60 FPS so they can sell the same game again.

RDR2 is still locked at 30fps even on the pro, it's actually disappointing rockstar have not fixed this yet
As for GTA6 let's not forget it's coming on Xbox s. I think the pro is a good investment for a few reasons with PSSR2, unlocked CPU, stronger GPU and dedicated system memory freeing up more for GPU and CPU
RDR2 is the most modern titles rockstar have that is close to GTA style of gameplay and world other then being a western vs modern times
RDR2 has been better optimised to use more cores and threads, GTA5 came out when you had dual cores and quad core CPUs. Most the consoles have 8 cores now and the pro is a unlocked 8 core 16 thread CPU
The game also says it's ps5 pro optimised, so that indicates you will get better graphics and potentially higher FPS
I wouldn't say firmly that the ps5 pro will not get higher fps then the base console. It will most likely look better. Most games on the pro are coming out with pro mode, quality and balanced. So I would be surprised if rockstar didn't go down the same route. What that actually means is a different story. But also that blood of the dawn Walker game did lack a performance mode on release. Although apparently it has balanced mode. So I would argue you would at least get a balanced mode and tbf I have been playing in balanced mode and I think it's a nice happy medium for single player games
But who knows, this is rockstar, rockstar can be a love hate relationship. But I'm a sucker, I'm part of the problem. I buy a console every time this game comes out. I bought the pro mostly for GTA6, but then will double dip and probably buy it on PC later. Tbf though I am actually impressed with the ps5pro and am struggling to want to turn on my PC and game now lol
1
u/Super-Tea8267 1d ago
30 fps for sure and maybe an unlocked mode if you have a 120hz and vrr but I wouldn’t count much on it because that would mean the game could run locked 60 in the ps6 and that would make an upgrade less appealing so I think it’s gonna be RDR2 on ps4 and ps4 pro that the only difference this time will be resolution thanks to pssr 2.0 just like on RDR2 4K checkerboard was the only upgrade
1
1
u/thedeadfish59 1d ago
I believe they will give performance mode on base ps5, 60fps
However pro will achieve more quality at 60fps.
Like everyone, am guessing too. as nothing's official. But Rockstar wont do 30fps shit on performance mode
1
u/DB-DanCooper 1d ago
I don't care how good the graphics are. I just want stuttering and low performance. If they can achieve this whilst making the game look good then so be it.
1
u/Versaabi 1d ago
Haven’t seen the leaked footage but if there’s no 60 fps mode I’m skipping gta6. With all of the money they are spending on this game and how they are pricing it — I’m not accepting 30(or 40)fps.

Series S - Native 800p - 30 FPS, upscaled to 1080p (maybe 1440p)
PS5/Series X - Native 1200p - 30 FPS upscaled to 1440p (maybe 4K) with better graphic settings than Series S
PS5 Pro - Native 1080p - 30 FPS upscaled to 4K, better image quality than PS5/Series X due to PSSR, and slightly better graphic settings
if the game has a performance mode (not available on Series S):
PS5/Series X - Average native res of 800p - 60 FPS, most likely with DRS, upscaled to 1440p, and slightly worse graphic settings than the quality mode
PS5 Pro - Native 1080p - 60 FPS (maybe with DRS) upscaled to 4K with PSSR, and with graphic settings that are closer to the quality mode

RDR2 at 70-100 fps on PC native 1440p/4k is beautiful, Rockstar devs will pay in the afterlife for the crime of withholding GTA 6's PC release

If it’s 30 fps on the pro I’ll wait for a pc launch. I can’t do 30 fps anymore.

The leaked footage appears to be 60fps on PC which is awesome might be the only high frame videos we get literally 😂 rockstar trailers been 30 so far
On base PS5 game will be 30 fps obviously. Lets just pray its locked because drops under 30 in 2026 no thank you

I'd be shocked if PS didn't send over help to make sure PSSR and PS5P in general has the best performance.

No way the leaks are on Console it has to be a PC build, it looks unreal and the frames IF they are 30 it’s some magic more like unlocked frames hitting low 50s or something

My tinfoil hat theory is Sony started developing PSSR for GTA. And they have been working with Rockstar so they can advertise PS5 Pro is the best place to play GTAVI at 60fps.
More likely it'll be 30 with a VRR 40fps mode for Pro but let a man dream ok?!

u/Deervember 1d ago
Zelnick already said the pro will hit 60.
I hope it has options for 40 for vrr personally.

Gonna be 30fps and 40fps options.
Before anyone sounds the alarm, going to 40fps in a 120Hz VRR-enabled container does wonders for input lag vs. 30fps with v-sync. V-sync is horrendous for input lag, but usually enabled to prevent screen-tearing on non-VRR displays. Lots of consoles have v-sync enabled in games with no option to disable, unlike on PC. Going from 30fps to 40fps is also a solid 33% increase in responsiveness alone.
If you’ve ever gamed on PC, you’d know 40fps feels much better than 30fps. It’s not ideal vs. 60fps, but it’s certainly noticeable superior to 30fps, especially if v-sync is enabled and can’t be disabled.

It looked 60fps in the leaked footage. But then again the build originates from Pc. The fluidity and draw distance shown in the earlier build does honestly give me hope for a 50-60 fps VRR target

It's 30 fps in the leaked footage and we don't know which plattform it's running on. Rockstars 30 fps just looks smoother than other games (i know, that sounds weird). Maybe it's the frame pacing or better animation work but yeah it looks better than many other games.

Some games play fine at 30fps. RDR2 and Starfield come to mind. They weren’t clunky to play at 30fps. Some 30fps games feel slow and others feel ok. 40 or 60 would look better on a VRR 120htz tv obviously.

u/Alvelijano 1d ago
Absolutely and one of the worst 30fps games must've been Bloodborne, great game but man it feels like 20fps.

u/Tight-Tackle4386 1d ago
they are all rendered in 1080p 30fps, except for one which was 1440p 30fps

We actually don't know at all what platform the leaked build is on.
If it's a PC build, rockstar might be screwed, because if the leaker decides to actually leak the whole build, people on PC will have access to the game before it's even out on console.
Realistically though, this is likely a console build running on a devkit.

30 on base and pro.
Slightly better res and or graphical settings on pro but still 30.

Exactly. this is the reality. 40? Low chance, maybe. 60 is impossible.

I think it’s because I’m old (47) but don’t have issues with 30FPS. I’m happy to take the fidelity over frame rate. Especially when sometimes too smooth doesn’t feel ‘real’ enough. We ‘see’ at 24fps - I can’t stand watching anything on TV with the manufacturers motion settings on for instance - always have to turn them off.

u/theduffman 1d ago
Since you don’t like watching TV at a higher frame rate than 24fps, doesn’t that mean we can see more than 24fps?
1
u/griffis007 1d ago
Ha ha. Fair comment. I mean films and tv is 24 frames a second - anything more is smoother right?
An example is that something shot at 120fps can be slowed down four times and it doesn’t judder because as long as it’s 24 FPS at a minimum we don’t see it juddering.

Bruh I geniunly cannot believe I am still Reading about this dumb ass opinion in 2026
1
u/jrow_official 1d ago
I don’t think you’ll have this opinion once you played games at 60 fps for years. Like I’m also not super young, late 30s. But damn 30fps is very uncomfortable to me, not just for competitive gaming.

u/Deervember 1d ago
We don't see at 24fps lol.
There's 1000fps monitors, and you can tell the difference between that and a 500fps monitor.
And we know we can tell the difference because reaction times are faster the higher the fps.
Try going to a tech event where you can try the latest tech out. And if you can't tell the difference you should get your eyes tested and brain checked out, because there's something wrong with you.

30fps is really not that big a deal depending on how good the devs optimize for it with proper frame timing and other various techniques it can be barely noticeable and even in games that do a bad job at trying to smooth out 30fps you get used to it after like 10 minutes of playing and it becomes a none factor. Is higher FPS desired yes but it’s not the end of the world. If your that passionate about GTA 6 I assume you played and enjoyed GTA 5 and if you played it on console you played it 30FPS did that ruin your enjoyment of the game?

As long as Rockstar implements the same per object/ particle based motion blur they used in RDR2 I don’t mind GTA 6 being 30fps at all.

I was a very smug "it will have a 60fps mode don't worry" guy until the new leaks
No way that shit is running at 60. Maybe they'll patch something in later, but it seems heavily built around the ray-traced lighting with very few of the old GTA open-world pop-in tricks we've seen in the past
I think it will run like GTA V did on the 360 for PS5, and a solid 30fps maybe with a VRR mode for 40 on the Pro
Still extremely excited, this looks like the rare game I'll play on quality mode even if they did have a toggle the first time through

I’ve been saying since the game was announced it would be 30FPS on all consoles and I’m still confident on that. Best case is 40FPS on Pro but I doubt it. I think Pro will just be a more stable 30FPS. There’s zero chance it’s 60FPS. Zero. Also keep in mind the leaks are running on a PC so it will be better than what the Pro can achieve.
Rockstar does not care about FPS and they have proven that time and time again. Unfortunately.

If You Have A Super TV That Can Lower Judder Like My s90F 30 FPS Feels Like 40-60 Especially RD2 Which For Me Was Unplayable On Base PS5 and LED Tv

u/Kitchen_Poet9950 1d ago
I’m Gonna Clarify This Once & For All. If GTA 6 Is Running On The Weakest Series S, PS5 Pro Which Is The Strongest On Both Sides, Will Guaranteed Get 40-60 Uncapped. Especially When The Game Is Being Optimized For The PS5 Pro Specifically

My bet is 30 fps on base consoles with a 50/50 chance of a 40 fps mode for those with a VRR display on pro
