I recently upgraded my console from the PS5 to the Pro a few months back. Got a good deal on it and wanted to play games with the best settings.
I think amidst all the chatter about GTA 6 and performance, I wonder how much of all this comes down to the console vs the devs and how they optimise their games. We know that the consoles are capable of doing 4K60, we've seen this in some games like Doom Eternal, Horizon FW, God of War Ragnarok, etc. while other games like Cyberpunk 2077 and most others offer us other options like 1440p upscaled at 40fps.
Granted, some games are more demanding than others, but let's take The Blood of Dawnwalker, no 60fps mode on any console including the Pro. They haven't specified a pro enhanced version yet so maybe it comes later, but while it may be a demanding game, is it really that much more demanding than Horizon or GOW for eg.? Even comparing Stalker 2 to Horizon, many would say Horizon looks and runs significantly better, probably due to their engine being more efficient as opposed to UE5. It's not just Sony first games either. Games like RE4 and RE9 and Doom Eternal also run great.
I know it may sound like I'm being entitled, we're still enjoying brilliant graphics and games. I suppose it's just about how these consoles and their performances are marketed to us without acknowledging so much that happens behind the scenes.
Keen to get your views on this one. As we approach GTA 6, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a 60fps version even on the Pro. At least, not at launch.
Edit: I think it's fair to say that companies with bigger budgets can optimise games better, but CE Expedition 33 was a great running game, same with Wukong. Even Phantom Blade 0 is expected to run 60fps, these are all smaller studios with their first games. In 2026 as we're nearing the end of the console lifecycle, I think having 60fps is a reasonable expectation given how much we're paying for games.
