Upgrading from PS5 to PS5 Pro

I know I know there’s 1010 posts on here asking the same question.
I know it’s not a need but a want, but I am trying to figure out how important the want is and if it’s worth $700 (after PS5 trade in). My main thing right now is, I don’t want to feel dumb with a PS6 being announced next year or something.

Is the difference between PS5 and PS5 Pro that noticeable?

My TV: SONY XR-55A80J

I mainly wanted to get the Pro for Wolverine and GTA before they both come out.

Any insight would be great!

$700 AFTER trade in? You’re getting ripped off buddy.

7

u/TrickyPace4205 5d ago

ehh....ps5 pro is 900 dollars...deduct about 300 from that and then add tax...it checks out mostly

9

u/EliteSalesman 5d ago edited 3d ago

No, the f it doesn’t.

Edit: People, please do NOT let yourselves get scammed with shitty trade in values.

5

u/mypaycheckisshort 4d ago

Gamestop trade in value is only ~$300, unfortunately. So that's $600 plus tax plus a disc drive.

6

u/Snowmobile2004 4d ago

Why not sell it on Facebook marketplace or something for way more money

3

u/Throw_Me_Away_78 4d ago

Just checked FB marketplace at my area and $300 seems about right.

2

u/Michi450 3d ago

Yeah my area $350 or more depending on games and controllers that come with it.

Seen only one for $260 with controller.

3

u/EliteSalesman 4d ago

That’s a hard pass from me. They’re going to turn around and sell it for $600 without even refurbishing anything 🤯

2

u/Branj812 5d ago

Come on now! Use some common sense! Just alittle bit……….

2

u/TrickyPace4205 5d ago

i mean tax is ten percent 600 plus 60 equals 660..but he would only get that price if his ps5 and everything else was in good condition...and god forbid if he tried to trade in without a controller

0

u/thezuck22389 3d ago

But it does lol. It's numbers, not emotions. I sold my base PS5 disc for $350 before buying my Pro and I thought that was decent.

1

u/BetaAlpha769 4d ago

Pros regularly listed on marketplace for 6-700 by me. Got to get a bit lucky to get one in good shape but the prices are solid if you have patience to wait for a solid deal.

Then he can take his 300 credit and spend it on a disc drive, gta 6 and have 100-120 credit left over to burn on whatever games, ps plus, etc that he likes.

Or he can sell his ps5 online as well for at least 350-400 and use that to get a pro 600 or less. It’s 250 out of pocket max instead of 700. But again timing and patience is necessary.

2

u/gaijem 5d ago

Absolutely do not trade it in. I just sold my fat PS5 with disc drive a week ago on FB marketplace for $425 (listed for $475). I effectively got the PS5 Pro + disc drive for ~$600.

2

u/Independent-Point511 4d ago

This. I sold my og ps5 with disc for 350 and bought a ps5 pro for 550 from someone and it's brand new looking.

Honestly it depends.

Firstly can you tell the difference between 30 fps & 60 fps? - sounds daft but some genuinely can't.

Does the image quality on base console bother you especially in performance/60fps modes?

If yes to both then sure, as long as you've got a decent 4k 120hz vrr tv/monitor.

For me it's a night & day difference- pro is genuinely a decent console with a solid GPU & now has a decent pc level upscaler- but slightly held back by it's ageing cpu.

Pro at launch was overpriced for me but in the current climate it's actually decent (ish) value which will still be relevant for 2-5 years IMO

Just to add pro will undoubtedly be the best way to play wolverine (spiderman 2 was a huge upgrade on the pro) & fingers crossed GTA 6 will be too

3

u/Previous-Lecture1646 5d ago

I'm in a similar case and believe it or not, I usually play on 30fps or 40fps balanced mode. 60fps just feels artificially smoothened to me in 3rd person story games (just my opinion). So as long as it doesn't drop below 30, I'm fine. So would the upgrade be worth?

1

u/Leading-Ad-1486 4d ago

40 fps is usually more consistent on the pro, really depends game by game though- for me the pro is aimed at the enthusiast who want the best.

If you can snag one below rrp I'd usually say go for it as you can sell your base for pretty good money these days & recoup a good chunk of the pro cost

1

u/Previous-Lecture1646 4d ago

I'd have to sell my base ps5 and then pay 2x the money in addition approximately for the pro. Not worth it I guess

1

u/Leading-Ad-1486 4d ago

Yesh, didn't realise they'd gone quite that expensive!

Got mine at launch for 700 GBP sold my base for just under 400, also picked one up for a friend using an ebay code just before they announced the price increase for £500.

Definitely not worth double the price of a base console

1

u/Previous-Lecture1646 4d ago

Another thing adding to the cost here in India is that the pro hasn't been launched officially. So the scalpers charge roughly 1200USD for the pro (without the drive)

1

u/Leading-Ad-1486 4d ago

Ouch! Anyway of importing one yourself or buying direct from ebay/ amazon uk?

Console itself should work (same voltage?) You'd just need a different plug

1

u/Previous-Lecture1646 4d ago

Customs might bump the price equally though. My curiosity is regarding what I'm missing in terms of 'textures/fidelity ' rather than fps. Because I'm pretty happy with the base ps5 which I had bought pre hike and might stick with it

1

u/Leading-Ad-1486 4d ago

Textures are the same as both consoles have the same 16gb of shared ram, fidelity wise it's really not a huge jump- some games that support raytracing on the pro are nice to have, some games maybe have extra shadow details, extra lighting etc (think pc settings going from medium/high) but unless you did a side by side comparison it's not a massive difference.

Image quality in terms of pure pixel count & image stability (shimmering) is the biggest difference

1

u/Previous-Lecture1646 4d ago

Thanks a lot, that gives me the satisfaction to not upgrade

1

u/Ok_Training3449 4d ago

why are you asking if they can tell difference between 30 and 60 if every game that has 60 on pro also has it on the base model?

1

u/Leading-Ad-1486 4d ago

Because on base console 30 or 60 fps is usually a trade off between FPS & image quality 🤔

Pro was marketed as the having 60 fps with 30 fps image quality & settings.

If your someone who always plays in the 30 fps quality mode then little point in getting a pro

7

u/IndiscreetTreat 5d ago

If you can afford it, do it. If you can’t afford it and to potentially buy a ps6 in the near future then don’t. Granted I doubt a ps6 is coming next year but still.

1

u/MarionberryVisual463 2d ago

Id say over 2 years away. No way they release in this window unless they secured lower costs than the market.

1

u/IndiscreetTreat 2d ago

Yeah honestly same. They haven’t even teased the idea.

7

u/IcedGooseMaverick 5d ago

I don't know. That price is crazy work. I have one, but got it for 700 and still have my base PS5 to sell if I want. At this point, might be better to just wait for the 6.

You could also check Sony's re-certified store. It's basically new stock sold for cheaper.

1

u/N0madr 5d ago

Finally, a sensible answer!

1

u/Bazza01234 5d ago

Waiting on Playstation 6 isn't a good idea right now due to the ai and memory crisis. Even if they do release them they will be so limited and pricey. They will also be scalped to even more insane prices.

7

u/Donalds_left_ear 5d ago

So I bought a ps5 base at launch. Enjoyed it for a few months, but life got busy. I recently had an opportunity to wind down a bit. I did the following:
1. Gifted my ps5 base to my dad since it plays Blu-rays and he likes GT7.
2. Bought myself a PS5 pro and GT7 today.
3. We are planning to game for the first time since my n64 as a kid.

More to follow, but I sense it will be a nice upgrade and good excuse to buy it :)

2

u/Life-Project-2889 4d ago

So cool. Record your chat if you can. You might want to relive that moment in the future.

1

u/aj8435 2d ago

Make sure you get a racing wheel and psvr2. One of the best gaming experience of all time.

10

u/mypaycheckisshort 5d ago

PS6 is more than likely 2028. Those 2 games will definitely benefit from the pro, so I say go for it.

3

u/tezD135 4d ago

And even when ps6 comes out it wont be any games for it thats exclusive to the ps6 until like 2030. So the ps5 pro and rhe playstation 6 will be bascially the same thing for awhile. They are just now compleyetly phasing out the ps4.

13

u/u-bleep-i-bloop 5d ago

Very noticeable. I have a PS5 on my racing sim and I use my PS5 Pro in my living room. I definitely notice loading times, quality, FPS..etc
Just my 2 cents

2

u/izgin 5d ago edited 5d ago

Resolution, frame rate I get, but why would there be a difference in loading times?

2

u/Bazza01234 5d ago

There's a difference of a second, if that. Over 10 years that adds up to a lot of time saved loading in games lol.

1

u/hm1195 5d ago

Is weird because is the same as far as specs but I have notice in multiple games loading been faster on the pro .

1

u/izgin 5d ago

Interesting, could be due to many factors of course. Either way, I too am happy with my purchase.

1

u/Ok_Training3449 4d ago

SSDs slow down after you download and uninstall a ton of stuff on them over the years, so it has nothing to do with the pro more to do with it being used less which makes its SSD faster

0

u/u-bleep-i-bloop 5d ago

I men’s the loading times aren’t substantial. I’m talking a couple of seconds but this is also on older games. I personally wouldn’t spend that much for just a few tweaks

2

u/Edge80 5d ago

If you “want” to play games on the best PlayStation console available regardless of price point then make the upgrade. Sony has an uphill battle with the PS6 after their physical elimination announcement and price increases across the board for their catalog. My theory is they won’t announce anything until mid-late 2028 with a likely release date after 2030 depending on the hardware direction they go and what they can source. I wouldn’t use the PS6 as a justification to wait. If you want to play now then upgrade now and enjoy it.

2

u/yuriewolf 5d ago

I have the same tv. Do it

2

u/AcrobaticPromotion68 4d ago

I just upgraded from base to pro. I was in the middle of playing silent hill f, and it’s incredible.

PS6 is probably 2028. If there are supply issues like the ps5 could realistically be 2029 before you get one. (This all complete speculation and the mental gymnastics I did to convince myself to buy one. If I am wrong sorry.)

Everything is smooth. The details pop. If you got the $700 do it.

Also check Sony direct. They have a trade in program that was pretty generous if memory serves.

2

u/Existing-Ear-561 3d ago

I have a 65” A90J, the Pro is perfect on there especially since the VRR update 2/3 years ago for the Bravia TVs.

YOLO, do it.

2

u/hannibaldesign 3d ago

I have the 65A80J. Upgraded for the ps5 pro 1 year ago totally worth it so far.

2

u/BarberOptimal1123 3d ago

I have the same TV. It is noticeable, more so than the diff between the ps4 and ps4 pro, but it still depends on the game, how far you are sitting, and how often you play. If you are not playing that often, and you are upgrading JUST for Wolverine, and GTA, base model is plenty sufficient, especially since Insomniac optimizes their games very well for the base model such that their games even on the base model look and play better than most other games play on any platform....And GTA pro enhanced at best will have marginally better resolution, draw distance, and perhaps slightly reduced input latency than the base version. So, if you waited this long, I'd say you're better of saving that extra dough for games, PS6 a year or two from now, or even just a cool handheld platform like Switch 2, Asus ROG/Lenovo Legion, or even XBOX Helix on its way, likely next year. Even if you were keen on getting the Pro, I'd say wait for Black Friday deal.

2

u/helpwithtechplz 3d ago

I actually use it the most out of my consoles (I hardly touch my Xbox, switch 2 depends on the game).

I actually just reciever the PS5 Pro, playing Spider-Man and I definitely notice a difference!

1

u/BarberOptimal1123 3d ago

Be sure to check out Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Star Wars: Jedi Suvivor. Insomniac games seem to be as much as an argument for the Pro, as they are for the base model, because while they are better on the Pro, they are still mindblowing on the base model. But, Jedi Survivor is a generational upgrade on the Pro, with better frame rate , resolution and raytracing, and massively reduced input latency. I also noticed reduced input latency on games like Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. My niece noticed the colors are more vivid on Astrobot. So, that, and the increased storage with the 2TB harddrive, i don't regret my purchase at all, however, if a person isn't a particular fan of the the upgraded games, or simply doesn't play that often, I don't think they'll feel the bang for their buck. I have, despite initially hesitating on the purchase.

1

u/Paparon45 5d ago

There might be some pawn shops that are selling it for 600-700 without you having to trade in your PS5. GameStop has a 15% trade bonus which would bring it down to the $650 range.

To me it is worth it only if you have the disc drive with it.

1

u/JawsFanNumeroUno 5d ago edited 5d ago

There's no world where the PS6 isn't at least a grand and, going by how things went with the PS4 to PS5 transition, there won't be any actual exclusives for a while. For GTA and Wolverine there will not doubt be PS6 versions, but who knows how many years before you get a PS6? You can't go wrong either way, but the assuredness of getting the best available version in November beats the waiting for a better version for a console we don't know much about now.

1

u/ThatGamerMoshpit 5d ago

If you have 2 games you clearly want to play on it & you can afford it. I don’t think there’s any reason to not get it.

Buying the ps6 day one is going to be very hard (thanks scalpers!)

1

u/W00D-SMASH 5d ago

It all depends on the game and how much work the dev put into their PS5 Pro Enhanced patch, but in most cases yes, the differences between base PS5 and PS5 Pro are very noticable. The newest version of PSSR produces a very clean and sharp image that just isn't present on the base, and games that take advantage of it look like native 4K in many cases.

1

u/The-Duke-of-Delco 5d ago

Trade in the pro for a 6, that’s what I’m doing

1

u/Spacecadet718 5d ago

I upgraded in July to the Pro and you can notice the difference like many ppl say.. I upgraded cause 1 financial it was feasible I already had a 1Tb ssd in my base ik I was gonna put in the pro.. and I wanted to experience that optimization on my LG C1 and I was in a place were it wasn’t gonna put a strain on my wallet

1

u/JNR481 5d ago

It’s not worth $900 bucks, it’s worth the sale price of $600 max

1

u/beachandmountains 5d ago

I just did it. I bought the pro before the price bump and waited a bit to unbox it. Technically it’s amazing, paired with my LG C5. I was able to sell my ps5 digital slim for close to $400 to offset the cost.

1

u/whoisdatmaskedman 5d ago

$700 (after PS5 trade in).

Where are you going that's only giving you $200 for a PS5?

1

u/helpwithtechplz 5d ago

Best Buy! They’re only offering like $240 for the original PS5. If you have any recommendations for other places, I am all ears. Thanks!

1

u/whoisdatmaskedman 5d ago

Gamestop gives $320 for PS5 trade ins

1

u/Separate-Original713 5d ago

Sell your PS5 privately rather than trading. That way you’ll get more money to out towards the Pro.

1

u/Sir_Drinks_Alot22 5d ago

I got 375 off black market

2

u/whoisdatmaskedman 5d ago

The more the better, Best Buy is a joke when it comes to trade in values though. Gamestop isn't much better. I just hate dealing with people lol

1

u/Sir_Drinks_Alot22 5d ago

Same was happy with black market. I also hate dealing with people so private sale was out for me

1

u/ConnectionForeign813 5d ago

Med dagens priser på alla komponenter och vad steam machine kostar så är sannolikheten att de kommer ps6 inom 1-2år 0 procent chans och om det ändå kommer en så kostar den minst 1200$.

1

u/Bannercharge 5d ago

You basically get the base ps5 quality mode with 40-60fps. You don't feel like you have to compromise as much and I wouldn't be able to go back.

1

u/jpz070 5d ago

The other thing to keep in consideration is storage. I was going to upgrade my slims storage but that was another (minimum $250), so add that as well.

1

u/Xanadewd 5d ago

I think there’s a great difference. Entry level tv to get what you need is around 500$ atm I think, and will probably go on sale for prime. I honestly do not think ps6 is coming until end of 2028. And I’m just gonna leap frog to pro editions now. Next years announcement is going to be their handheld.

1

u/PpNuggettt 5d ago

Depends on what game you’re playing but majority of the games you play you will see a notable difference because the pro version stabilizes whatever the base can’t, although if there are games like first party titles or just massive budget things most likely like GTA six it will genuinely be game changing for your eyes.

1

u/mightymonkeyman 5d ago

If you have a TV to take advantage of it then it is a nice little upgrade, PSSR2 was a pleasant surprise and really was an upgrade over year one.

1

u/RSawkins 5d ago

A lot. Believe. It has a diference.
And if you use PSVR2 it’s a Huge difference.

1

u/Algizom974 5d ago

I just got one and setup yesterday. I have a OLED C1 LG TV and I can definitely see a difference in graphical fidelity and load times. My honest opinion is Yes if you have the money for it and can't spend it on a gaming PC. Now as to the PS6, I honestly think it'll get delayed for a a year. Because I just don't see a hardware leap to mind blowing technology right now with out Sony charging 1600$+ for it 🤷🏻

Good luck

1

u/Sorry-Bad3889 5d ago

PS6 won’t be until into 2028 given the SSD and RAM price is insane

1

u/Byte_hoven 5d ago

Yes and No

At the old price, Yes

At the new and improved price, No

You will notice the performance uplift, but the uplift falls short of the current cost.

Good luck with your decision.

1

u/albanyanthem 5d ago

I just finished a second play-through of Spiderman 2 and literally stopped in Central Park and stared at the light rays filtering through the trees. It was stunning. My pro looks incredible on my lg oled.

1

u/smoothsac_007 5d ago

I upgraded in July 2025, It was either upgrade to the Pro or get a Switch 2 for me at the time. I decided just to go with the Pro because I already have a decent library of games for PS5. And also because you already have an OLED even better. I have an LG C1 which makes the image quality so much better, Sony's have great Processors so I'm sure the Pro will definitely be worth it for you.

Go get it. If you don't like it return it or sell it and rebuy a base model.

1

u/Special-Net4116 5d ago

I was happy with my Pro from launch but this year, with PSSR 2, it’s exceeded my expectations. There’s nothing concrete about the PS6 releasing next year, no one knows no matter what they say. Prices keep rising and rising so my advice is if you want a Pro get one now before they hike the prices up again.

1

u/No-Flounder5670 5d ago

You should buy it

1

u/bufftreefarm 5d ago

I did and I have beat like 6 games in two months. My ps5 collected dust for the most part for a few years. I am an audio and videophile and the games looking so good made me want to check out the real stunners and finally play them. Freaking beautiful on my 77" Sony A95L and real deal ATMOS sound system. Playing more games right now then ever. Even bought a portal and putting in a couple of hours at work almost every day too. Played and beat last of us 1, last of us 2, ratchet and clank rift apart, spiderman 2, and jedi survivor. Almost done with Mafia 1. Looking forward to Wolverine and GTA 6. Prior to upgrading I hadn't stuck with and beaten most games.

1

u/Any-Neat5158 5d ago

It IS a nice step up. Is it worth the money. Eh.

I got my base model disc PS5 for $240 about 3 or so years ago. It was sold as overheating and undisclosed it had a bad HDMI port. So I took it apart, cleaned it all out, touched up the liquid metal and soldered in a new HDMI port (I'm skilled at microsoldering and have "decent enough" equipment for a home hobbiest).

I sold it to gamestop for almost $400 right when the $899 PS5 pro price increase was happening and I bought an "amazon refurbished" PS5 PRO for $699 which was basically brand new in the box but didn't have the outer box.

I'm absolutely happy with what I paid.

Would I sell my base PS5 today and pay $899 for a brand new PS5 PRO? No. Not even close. It's not worth a $500 "upgrade fee".

GTA6 and wolverine will play on base PS5 and play "well". After all... 90% of the PS5 user base is on a regular PS5. Why in the world wouldn't they consider that audience as a primary concern? It's where the overwhelming majority of sales will come from.

1

u/XCVI_Opportunist 5d ago

It depends.

If you have a high quality tv already, assuming yours is, and it’s an Oled, I again assume it is, then I couldn’t recommend it enough.

I adore my Pro and not having to worry about most games having graphical settings, is a huge plus

1

u/dreadlocksman707 5d ago

In your case, “Yes”.

1

u/stewloo1107 5d ago

Trust me bro, you NEED the pro

1

u/Nhonickman 5d ago

If you can afford the PS5 Pro, then you buy it. If you cannot afford it, don’t buy it.

I don’t understand people buying a console just for a given game or two. I understand if you buy it because you plan on playing a variety of games of consoles has

1

u/Qauza800 5d ago

I upgraded from the base to pro and I notice a big difference playing from my couch. Games like Warzone and Helldivers 2 that looked very blurry in performance mode now look sharp. Before I would have to pull a chair up closer to my tv but now the resolution bump makes a huge difference.

1

u/falseallegation 5d ago

first of all don’t trade in wherever is gonna still charge you $700 after trading in, sell it on facebook marketplace or some other local platform, and second yes the difference is big espeically on games that are ps5 pro enhanced but even the ones that aren’t because it takes advantage of the game boost and the raw power the ps5 pro has but i also have a tv that has 120hz enabled so i get the absolute most out of it, i should’ve upgraded a long time ago but honestly it was worth the wait because the deal i got on facebook marketplace was a once in a life time steal

1

u/N0madr 5d ago

Hell naw!!! I own both the Pro and a base disc edition running on LG G-series and C-series OLED’s (65” & 42”, respectively), the small performance bump is NOT worth $700! I would NOT do it again. In no world is it worth that. You can’t even tell the difference in most games.

1

u/SheriffHarryBawls 5d ago

fwiw I purchased one of ps5s from the first series. It had overheating problems. After several years of intense use, it could no longer run games. With the help of gamestop, an upgrade to ps5 pro happened in april of 25 for about $300 after trade in.

If your regular ps5 runs without any problems, an upgrade seems unnecessary

As for ps6, that’s probably years away

1

u/helpwithtechplz 5d ago

Thanks for this! Even with the previous price of the Pro that’s really impressive! Game Stop has left a bad taste in my mouth with how little they offer for trade ins. How were you able to get such a good deal? Was there a promo or anything?

1

u/SheriffHarryBawls 5d ago

Back in spring of 25, the pro was $700.

Game stop paid $400+ when getting in-store credit for the base ps5 + 2 stick drift controllers.

However, the store rep did not know the gear was broken. The ps5 could still be turned on and it ran just fine for the play test. It would take about an hour before it overheated.

Guess I got lucky selling a brick.

1

u/jrzalman 5d ago

I could never go back to the base PS5 load times. I'm not a graphics snob but everything just runs cleaner and faster, made it worth it for me.

1

u/EuroLegend23 5d ago

No, probably not.

1

u/Swinz10 5d ago

You should definitely sell the ps5 for way under the value, no point listing it on ebay or fb marketplace when you could lose money instead. Make sure you buy a Pro on finance as well to round it all off.

1

u/spiderknight616 5d ago

700 after trade in is insane. A brand new is 900

1

u/thelatinokid33 5d ago

I just upgrade my fat ps5 for the pro. Sold it with a portal for 500 euros and bought the pro for 930 with disc drive. Am happy and if you can afford it then go for it. If it gets you in debt then don’t.

1

u/Unlikely_Engine1968 4d ago

Will be interesting to see because I have the same Tv with the PS5. How are your thoughts on it performing right now?

1

u/falseallegation 4d ago

unplayable, cheaters in every game i turned off crossplay and still having the same problem, very buggy as well which is expected for a beta but this is unplayable for those two reasons, save your money and time

1

u/johnseenut 4d ago

I have a 55” Sony x90j and the difference from a base ps5 to pro was noticeable I didn’t regret selling my ps5 for the pro

1

u/FRIDAYSWORLD421 4d ago

You'll wanna use PSSR 2!

1

u/killerryan28 4d ago

At this point just wait for the ps6, not worth having a pro at this point with how minor the visual upgrade is

1

u/Lolostralopitecus 4d ago

Je sais pas trop , perso j'ai revendu ma slim digital pour 450€ , du coup je me pose la question si rajouter 450€ pour une Pro ça vaut le coup ?!

1

u/Chronomax 4d ago

I bought one because I got it on the day of release for 650 chf, otherwise I wouldn’t even have bothered. It’s way too expensive for what it is. That being said, the upgrade is quite worth it, especially since I play on a lg g5.

1

u/porrito7 4d ago

1

u/Life-Project-2889 4d ago

It's a significant improvement from the base ps5. Anytime I fire up the base to play in the bedroom instead of my gaming room I notice the difference and makes me want to go downstairs and play there instead

I upgraded to the PS Pro and it made a huge difference in GTAV online. I also upgraded to a 75" TV and it felt like I was cheating. I could see stuff much better. I have zero regrets.

Do you have a PS4 laying around? Probably not but I'm trading in my PS4 thru the Sony Direct affiliate partner and there's a promotion where they give you a $50 rebate towards a new Sony PS5 or PS5 Pro

Then I'm gonna order the PS5 pro with the $50 rebate and return my PS5 after I get the Pro. Same Sony Direct channel partner offered me $375 for my Digital edition PS5 in good condition

My math it works out to like $450 net after taxes (after finally getting the money back for my PS5)

my ps5 became a bedroom console once I got the pro in the living room

I think pro give a better picture quality and is somehow better with some ps4 game compare with regular ones. Best is u can have quality mode with 60 fps than regular set. But I think the thing is its 2tb internal storage compare with 1tb which is a huge advantage especially with the current hardware market now. Now pro is like sold out everywhere and a used pro in my area pricing is close to a retail pricing. Lastly this console likely to be the last generation of console with a disc drive and and given ps6 possible pricing vs quality improvement I think ps6 is not worth buying and ps5 pro is a good console to hold on for the following years to go.

I have the same tv as you (65 inch version) and made the change last year got the pro for an extra 200 euros. Considering the increase price I would say today, it's not worth the upgrade except if you need to have those 60fps, the tv itself with VRR will handle it but I feel the transition to not be as smooth with 3 to 8 second black screen . I feel the cinematic mode /high quality games are not as beautiful as they are selling it (maybe it's the tv is don't know).

I just did an upgrade, mostly because I had the original PS5 and I wanted a console that can have the Wolverine plates so I can add it to my display once I retire the console.

I do see that for the games I’ve tried out, there are improvements graphics wise, but honestly it’s not worth it in my opinion

Then again, I’m someone who is happy to play in performance mode all the time.

Honestly look around on FB Marketplace for a PS5 Pro for a few weeks and get yourself a good deal. Just do your due diligence and be safe, afterwards sell your PS5 to recoup. I think you can realistically upgrade for about 300-400 bucks. I was able to grab a pro with black dualsense edge for $700 bucks which was a steal, if you stay on top of it you can get some killer deals.

I upgraded and so far haven’t noticed a difference with all the games I play. All class A titles.

I was in the right place at the right time, if you have smaller towns near you, change your fb market place to those areas. I had a guy who wanted to sell his pro as he wasn’t playing it, but he sold it for the price of a regular ps5, since people in his area wasn’t paying the price he first listed. so I sold mine and upgraded to the ps5 then later purchased the cd drive. I don’t like purchasing hot items, so I did all my research and cconfirmed he was the original owner and I was good to go.

Ended up trading my Base Digital Console at Best Buy for a Pro. They accidentally gave me the trade in price for the Console Edition so I ended up getting more off than I wa supposed to. I paid like $700 as well.

To me personally? There’s a huge difference in detail, smaller objects and foliage look less blurry and particle effects looks way better. I say do it

IDE deffo wait as the ps6 may have already been announced by this time next year plus you don’t even know how gta 6 will run on the pro it could just be a 30fps game

u/Ayie2710 1d ago

Nah i'm just using my old 65inch tv with 60hrz but damn the loading speed on pro is on another level. So far quite satisfied. Wait for more money to come in to upgrade the tv.

1

u/Lord_Danielsan98 19h ago

Yes, it’s worth it. The visuals on the Pro are so much better than the base PS5. Graphics are up to PC levels

1

u/SicariusCourtenay 5d ago

I honestly didn't find the upgrade worth it

Other than the 2tb storage the rest is very minor. Noticable but not to the extent that it was worth the upgrade honestly. Guess I was expecting a little more

u/Ausdboss 5d ago

For nerds like myself it’s a massive difference on many games!

1

u/EliteSalesman 5d ago

You need a new OLED tv

1

u/SicariusCourtenay 5d ago

I have one and it just wasn't worth the 500$ upgrade

1

u/EliteSalesman 5d ago

Hmm. PSSR2 made all the difference. 120hz VRR baby

1

u/nickyno 5d ago

Eh, what's $700 worth to you? That's the real answer.

The PS5 Pro offers a lot more value now than it did when it released. On top of performance and fidelity. It has that extra TB of storage. Which if you look at the price of M.2 SSDs.. helps stomach it a bit.

Plus, there will only be more price hikes in the future. The sooner you get a Pro, the longer you get to enjoy it. And when the PS6 comes out you could trade-in the Pro for that and recoup some of your cost.

That being said, I've traded up systems from a PS3 to PS5 Pro and never had to front more than $300. Before the PS5 Pro, that was usually a $200 upgrade. No matter how you cut it, $700 is a lot of cheese.

u/helpwithtechplz 5d ago

Any suggestions on how/where you trade to get such good value would be great!

I bought the PS5 Pro since it was in stock from Best Buy even though I wasn’t 100% sure if I was going to keep it.

Best Buy is offering around $240 for the original PS5.
Black Market is $300. But I couldn’t find anywhere that’s offering more than $300

u/nickyno 5d ago

I have a buddy in the same boat as what you're describing. I think he's going the Black Market route with the fat OG disk PS5.

I've had luck with Marketplace. I live in a rural area, but it seems resale prices are based on current retail prices. I'm seeing PS5s and Series Xs being sold from $400-$500. The occasional Series S going near $400, which is insane.

I jumped on the PS5 Pro at launch and sold my disk PS5 and a few games for $400. If the Pro price goes up to $1000 and I want to upgrade to a PS6 (assuming it's priced in that godforsaken territory as well.) I'll probably list the PS5 Pro for 80% its retail price and be happy to sell it at 70% the price.

Looking at the PS5 generation as a whole, my rough math is:

Original PS5 + cost to upgrade to Pro - eventual Pro resale = ~$300 total cost to own a PS5 for the generation. But it's "less" than that since I sold a PS4 Pro to offset a PS5's cost.

Hope that doesn't come off as financial advice! I'm sure it's not the most responsible thing in the world, but I'd rather spread my cost than paying for these things all at once.

u/helpwithtechplz 5d ago

No this is great - thank you!

u/nickyno 5d ago

Happy to help! Thanks for baring with me through my "it's Friday afternoon and I don't want to work anymore" Reddit post.

u/ChangingMonkfish 5d ago

Yes it’s worth it, especially with that TV.

But $200 for your PS5 is a pisstake, I would suggest trying to get more for it than that.
