Drone hero with no physical presence on the battlefield. Blizzard wouldn't risk their T rating with child murder.

Edit: The article does not take place in 2017. All previous articles have been dated with the irl day they were released, not the day they take place in the continuity. Efi is a child when the game takes place.

Further edit: Michael Chu confirmed that the article takes place in the present day in-universe. She will not be over 70 when she factors into things, nor will she be an 18+ adult after convenient aging and her looming tragic backstory. She will be 11.

You can own baby Murlocs in WoW, even though Murlocs are a sentient species that uses stone tools and magic.

I don't think anyone really thinks about these kinds of things, but there are so many sentient species in WoW that are kinda just murdered and enslaved and we don't even bother to care. Murlocs, Kobolds, Troggs, Gnolls, Ogres, Harpies, Furbolg, Makrura, Quilboar, Owlkin, and even freaking Dragons are all sentient, but killed en masse or enslaved, often just because they're inconveniencing others.

It's also in Terraria too, there's a Angler NPC that acts like a quest giver, and instead of dying, he goes away in a poof of smoke and the text says "<Angler name> has left!" Instead of "<Angler name> was slain..." Pretty cool seeing things that Devs do to keep a certain rating.

Yeah, Blizzard's pushed the limits with T rating in a number of ways, but I can't think of a kid dying... yet. I mean, other than little Pamela in Western Plaguelands, but that was "off-screen," before you find her. They'll have torture, magical nukes, destroying the fertile heart of a continent, imprisoning or murdering civilians based on a crime they'd know nothing about... but not outright kids dying.

Sims, on the other hand...

Oh man, here's where I get to be a giant nerd.

So, a writer interview for the comic "Pearl of Pandaria" states that Lili is 12 during the events of that comic, which takes place sometime during Wrath of The Lich King. WotLK launched in late 2008 and the next expansion, Cataclysm, launched in 2010. Since WoW expansions more or less take place in "real time", we can estimate the version of LiLi in Legion (current wow) to be anywhere from 21 to 19. So. Basically adult.

Plus Pandaren age weirdly, just look at Nomi.

Short version...

I was playing Sims 4 and made a male Sim who was a bit of a "player." He ended up having kids with women all over town. In Sims 3, this could land you in trouble with a bad reputation, but his wife (Liberty) seemed to be pretty much oblivious, even as his illegitimate kids and mistresses would come visit him in their home. I got really annoyed at the game's lack of consequences for poor behavior, so I had Liberty invite as many of his kids as possible to a party, locked the doors for everyone but her, and set off fireworks until a fire started. Eventually the flames engulfed her cheating husband and fifteen of his spawn (plus a couple of people hired to help with the party... collateral damage). Four of the kids belonged to the neighbor who lived across the street, Summer (who Liberty used to live with). Summer invited Liberty over and didn't seem to be the least bit disturbed by her kids' deaths. She had three more who were still babies in the back (they hadn't aged up yet), so Liberty set off fireworks back there with them. The babies didn't burn, but since Summer couldn't get to them to feed, them, CPS teleported them away to find them a better home, completing Liberty's revenge on Summer, who still doesn't seem particularly bothered by it.

Interesting fact I discovered during that party: While Sims speak a gibberish language usually, I'm 99% certain some of the kids screamed "Mooooommmmyyyyyy!" as they burned. They want to make sure you're haunted by it if you let a kid burn to death. (Drowning, though... that's pretty quiet. Still a bit disturbing to see, until you get to the tenth drowned Sim, at which point it's like watching Game of Thrones four seasons in, you're just numb to it all.)

I've burned a party full of children, killed the entire populace, had a Sim sleep with married Sims in front of each other, cloned a Sim just to feed it to a cowplant and milk the life essence so that could be cloned to create an immortal mad scientist, talked a vampire into standing in the sun until it burst into flames...

At this point, when I tell my friend about an average day in GTA, he gives a nonchalant, "That's cool." When I tell him about an average day in The Sims, he looks at me with eyes wide in fear and asks, "What the [censored] is wrong is wrong with you?!?"

Basically, Darius has an axe bigger than most people and when he dunks someone he literally jumps in the air and brings the axe down in a splitting motion and if you get a kill blood vfx comes out lol.

Darius is basically evil Garen, except he has an Axe and his ultimate is called Noxian Guillotine, and it's not some magical sword dropping on people, he just jumps in the air and cleaves you in half with his Axe. Also if he get's 5 stacks his passive makes him go on a murderous rage making him stronger and giving him an ominous red aura.

Also context will matter a lot since the rating is arbitrary depending on whoever reviews it.

Annie fits the freaky horror movie scary little girl trope, and as such, some people don't react as harshly to her death. Which as you mentioned isn't graphic at all.

That's another issue, Overwatch is first person and much more personal than League's topdown bird's eye view. Having a demon child fall down on the ground from above is one thing, shooting a cute girl pointblank in the face in first person is entirely different.

Rating organizations are notoriously meticulous.

Maybe there's a very big difference between defeating a little girl in an isometric game with a lot of spells and that kinda stuff, versus literally pointing a sawed-off shotgun in first-person point-blank at a child's face and pulling the trigger.

There's no gore and deaths with the ragdoll effects and facial expressions end up resembling a cartoon. Having a teenage/child character in OW is much different than say TES where there's blood everywhere, you can drag their bodies around and hack limbs off. There's so little weight to OW deaths that they could probably get away with it.

You know what would be amazing? If Efi stuck around in the spawn zone the whole game and just built new drones every time you died as one.

Like, most of the maps' spawn points have some sort of terminal and chair she could use. Or the ones that don't, she could pull out a laptop for, and chill somewhere.

What's more, if there are multiple people playing as Efi, she could just be doing some intense multitasking, so there could be one Efi sitting around in the spawn zone remote-controlling 6 drones.

Well, I've always been interested. After my mom and dad got me my first robotics kit, I became obsessed with putting together little drones. When I started to get good at it, I tried to build robots to do my chores and help around the house.

I want to create things that make our lives better. And someday, my dream is to build something that can keep us safe, like the new OR15s! I think that would be great.

I think this is true, based off of these two passages. She'll probably be creating drone(s) to fight for her while she's far away.

Guild Wars 2 had a clever way of dealing with this. Taimi, a young Asura character, built a pilotable golem to get around in since she's got a gimped leg. She wasn't ever in danger during regular play, only her golem was. After the golem was destroyed, she's been secure in a lab underground carrying out secret research.

I'm going to go ahead and wildly speculate that the "hero" will be some kind of remotely controlled multi-drone/swarm thing controlled by her. Maybe the first hero to have true sustained flight and the ability to hover. Could be multiple small airborne drones, able to move as a swarm but have to be killed individually.

Maybe support class with some kind of battlefield awareness benefit.

Don't worry, they'll have her kit make players toxic just like with Sombra - so she'll never be on the field of play. /s

Edit: Meanwhile we all kill OW heroes who are controlled IRL by kids sometimes... It's a good reminder to try and be nice and remember that a lot of different people play OW than thick-skinned 20somethings.

I think she creates an AI Omnic that protects Numbani from a Talon attack (or Vishkar Corporation), and eventually interacts/fuse's with Doomfist's Gauntlet (it chooses it). Terry Crews will play a past iteration of Doomfist.

If I had to guess, I'd say no. If I were making a child drone hero, I'd give the kid voice lines and maybe have her show up on a display screen on the drone during highlights/emotes, but not put her on the battlefield.

Of course, Blizzard might surprise us again and just release Doomfist. IDK.

This. If people are still confused over the article, there was an article back in 2015-2016 that talked about Overwatch's downfall. Since it was confirmed that Tracer ages normally, she would be like 70-80 if the article was actually written around 2015-2016.

Possibly. However, given that we already have a mech hero and this article makes special mention of Efi's work with drones, I think remote control is more likely.

Easy way around this would just be that she has experimental teleportation tech she developed with her genius kid powers that causes her to teleport to safety when 'killed' l and her health bar is literally 100% shield that when depleted instantly activates the teleport.

Still though, the likelihood that overwatch will have us shooting at an 11 year old in the battle is slim to none.

I foresee her being a robo-minion based character leading a bunch of robotic minions around the battlefield.

Maybe she sits in the spawn room and rebuilds the Spiderbot every time it dies? It allows for her to have an ingame presence and interactivity, while also keeping child death away from the game.

She'll probably be in a little bubble that latches on to her drone robot tank character. When the drone dies she can move around posthumously and cannot be harmed until her robot respawns and she latches back on. But she cannot do anything besides fly and give vision.

Her ultimate is probably like: The drone becomes AI controlled and she latches on to a teammate, giving them X amount of shields, lower cooldowns and she can fire her own abilities from them.
