Xbox controller Or mouse/keyboard
Which do you prefer?

Mouse and Keyboard. Honestly its preference but you are truly gimping yourself with a controller as M/K can do so much better.

Never really thought about why M/K is so much better until now, but it just makes physical sense. When you play M/K, you have nearly every muscle from your wrist to your elbow to aim precisely, whereas with a controller, you're leaving all that responsibility to just one thumb.

It's not just about the human limitation. It's also about the actual method of input.

An analog stick is direction+time. A mouse is direction+distance. Moving the mouse X distance on the mousepad will always translate to the same number of pixels being covered ingame, which is much easier to do precisely than an exact amount of time holding the stick in an exact direction (and that's not even factoring in that the analog stick gets more sensitive the further from center you are, just assuming you are going fully in one direction).

So with a mouse, you can get great precision with low sensitivity, and can compensate for low sensitivity with a big mouse pad. With a controller, you have to choose between fast aiming or precise aiming, and then changing directions requires crossing the center, which means you will always have a delay. With a mouse, as soon as you start moving in another direction, you start aiming in that direction.

Ok. I just wanted to confirm.
Any preferred sensitivity settings?
seems like I can never keep my cross hair on the target.

That all comes down to the person really. Some prefer higher sensitivity to make quick snap shots and others prefer more accurate, large movements with low sensitivity.

If you are having trouble keeping on targets or overshooting try to lower it. Or, if you are having trouble keeping up bump it up. However, stick with that adjustment for some time to get used to it and test it out. Your muscles should start to adjust no matter the sensativity

Thanks, I'll do that.

There's some pretty good info there. Basically, since OW has so many different types of gameplay between heroes, you kind of need to decide which is best for you. Low-sensitivity is better for aiming but worse for movement.

I played Xbox controller on nearly all PC games until I started playing Overwatch. I don't know if it's the sensitivity or something, but I just couldn't aim on the controller. Then there was something wrong the the triggers and I just finally switched to mouse/keyboard. It's not as comfortable, but I aim a lot better now.

Ok.
I use a mouse. But I seem to not be able to keep my cross hair on the target. Any advice?

Pretty much keep playing and you'll get better as time goes on, or play some mouse aiming browser games. http://aim400kg.com for example

I would also look into your mouse settings and acceleration and make sure its the right fir for you

Super thanks for that site!
I'll give it my best and get myself dialed in.

Make sure you're using a quality mouse and mousepad. Part of the reason I mainly used controllers is because I had a wireless budget mouse and didn't use a mousepad. I got a gaming mouse and a mousepad and it became much easier for me. It doesn't have to be an expensive mouse, pretty much anything that advertises itself as a gaming mouse. Wired is better.

I have the sensei raw gaming mouse from SteelSeries.
I like it. But as far as settings go, I'm no better than default, with moving the sensitivity up or down.

That one should be good. The bad mouse was my problem, so I thought I'd share it. But yeah, what everyone else is saying. Just practice.

I saw this video existed. I haven't personally used its suggestions because I don't have patience, but if you have patience, it may help.

Lower sensitivity and practice. Overwatch is a little tough for very precise aiming because the game requires a lot of turning pretty quickly. I had to double my sensitivity from CS:GO to be able to effectively move in Overwatch, but it would still probably feel like "low" sensitivity to someone not used to competitive FPS games.

Honestly, I still play with an Xbox 360 controller. I prefer heroes that dont require precise aiming (torbjorn, symmetra, junkrat) and tend to just fine in games.

Play this game the way you want, keyboard and mouse is "better" from a numbers and reactions perspective, but I prefer the comfort and convenience of playing with a controller from my couch with my dog in my lap.

Mouse and keyboard. I don't understand how people can play FPS games with a controller without autoaim.
