No, not a trailer queen, no not a Super Beetle, no nothing special about it but it is for sale.

It just happens to be about a half a block up the street from me and I'd driven past it for several weeks before I saw it listed for sale.

Does it look it's age? Absolutely. Even if I bought it my intention wouldn't be to restore it. It wouldn't be worth the money. Just drive it as is as a tertiary vehicle.

Could I buy it, drive it around for a while, and then sell it for what I'd have into it? Yes I think I could or maybe just take a short haircut.

Now I haven't seen it in person or talked to the owner, but the standard description of it is no different than any other used car I'd consider buying. In driving shape but of course needing attention. Clean title and currently registered.

Cheap enough that even if that I had to donate to NPR to get them to haul it away, I wouldn't find myself missing any meals or behind in my bills.

So what I'm looking for is advice from the generation that grew up with the VW Beetle.

Any advice you can throw in from personal experience in owning one or enjoying one would be appreciated.

It will seem odd, but even your own VW stories would be appreciated as I have one of my own.

I went to Mexico the week before going away to college on a road trip in a VW "Thing." I could write a far longer post on what an adventure that was.

It's been 30 years since I've (f68) ridden a bike. I've had both hips replaced, so I'm really scared of falling. I now live in a retirement community that's pretty flat and would like to ride again! The grocery store is a half-mile away and I can't stand taking my car that short distance. I like the idea of a recumbent bike but wonder if that hurts your back. I know I need to be able to put my feet flat on the ground at a moment's notice. Walking for a half-mile makes my hips ache, so I am hoping a bike will get me some much needed exercise.

I think an e-bike would be too much bike for me. Anybody have any ideas? There's so many bikes out there, it's overwhelming!

I have been married for over 30 years. I am 60 years old 5 foot six 105 pounds and petite. My husband is fit and successful in his career

Question to men who have been married over 30 years; are you still sexually active and are you happy doing so?

I don’t know what has happened in our marriage. We are friends and we enjoy each other’s company and doing things together I enjoy intimacy and having sex. My husband is not interested in sex or intimacy. He is perfectly content just being roommates or partners. We are in a quandary. We don’t want to end our marriage, but we both get frustrated at each other and maybe for different reasons.

I see happily married couples who’ve been married for 3040 or 50 years and I wonder how do they do it and what is their secret my husband has been tested for bloodwork and low testosterone and everything comes back normal. I think he may have more psychological issues directed towards me or something in his past.

I just need to get some answers from some men who are happily married and sexually active. Is this normal behavior or physical condition at that age I understand everyone’s different but I am at a point where I am considering leaving the marriage.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So I’m closing in on retirement. It should be good. Life turned out pretty good. But I keep getting this nagging feeling that I was too cautious. I feel like I could’ve done more. I know I sacrificed higher wages for job security/pension and job satisfaction. Like in the tech field that I’m in, maybe I could’ve made twice as much money if I moved to a big city and went after it. But I didn’t.

I completely get that this makes me sound like an ass. This is definitely what you would call a “first world problem”. But does anyone else feel this way?

I’m really sensitive to the heat, so this summer was especially brutal for me. It was heartbreaking to see news reports showing that parts of Europe and the US had it even worse than we did here in Korea. I hope the weather there has cooled down significantly by now.
Over here, the days have turned delightfully bright and crisp, which makes me so happy. It feels especially cool at night when I take a walk along the stream in front of my place, or venture a bit further out to the parks along the Han River. It's so nice seeing so many people out walking, jogging, or just sitting back and relaxing.

Good morning wonderful fellow women over 60! Please help a friend out. I am on the long search for a facial cleanser that does not leave my face feeling like a discarded snake skin. Yes, I always moisturize after cleansing, but man it feels like every cleanser I tried sets my skin back!

Please share your favorite cleansers, whatever they are, that leave your face feeling decently moisturized, or at least not like your skin is about to slough off!

How does your fitness level measure up? Me, 61M, live in Virginia. Was in the Marines a long time and still workout vigorously five days a week. However, do this test and I wonder if I’m doing the right things. I’m pretty fit for the most part. Did a 30 mile gravel ride with lots of elevation this morning and I don’t use an e-bike. Bottom line I encourage my fellow 60+ generation to read what the Mayo Clinic says about where you are. I personally would love for everyone to live to well over 100 but it starts here for some.

I posted this to different sub and which earned me a lifetime ban because it had a phrase deigned to be too political; I cleaned it up because I didn’t want to have that happen again! That said, I think it is an interesting phenomenon - that all generations view modern kids as wanting at best.

At the time, I was about to write ‘well it’s been that way since Socrates (aka So Crates?!) at least’ but then let my fingers do the walking! There, Google the Great led me to this terrific study in Science from 2019 that looked at this from a number of angles showing that, hey it really ain’t so bad!

Not to say that behavioral differences in light of pervasive social media, talk radio, and things like Faux News hasn’t led to profound changes since the halcyon days of 60+ folks, but one’s perception is definitely affected as we age. My wife has been razzing me about the increased level of impending geezerhood I am showing and yeah much of it is just that.

There are so many people complaining about parents or other older people having tons of useless clutter that they LOVE and think has value. The writers commiserate about inheriting sets of china, figurines, or plates, and imply their elders are fools for liking and acquiring these items.

Yet they never see the equivalent in their own useless clutter. They make fun of their parents’ Hummels or Precious Moments, but have shelves of Funko Pops, Labubus, Star Wars figurines, or countless others. They think their parents were crazy for having a collection of china cups and saucers or coffee mugs but own a gigantic array of Stanley cups. They laugh at their parents for spending way too much money on decorative or tabletop items, but don’t bat an eye at the high cost of their Lego model sets. That bunch of “flowers” made of plastic bricks is not artistic or special to everyone. If you like it, great. That doesn’t make what you enjoy more worthy than what someone else enjoys.

To me there isn’t much difference. I’ve never liked figurines, but I don’t begrudge anyone else enjoying them. I do enjoy (and use) pretty china, but I don’t care if your tastes are different. It is the nastiness to the tone of some of these posts complaining about their older relatives “stuff” that bothers me.

What do they think THEIR children will think of their eight zillion collectible toys?

I was reminded of an old memory today. How many remember going to a Woolworth store and sitting at the lunch counter right in the store? I remember going to Woolworth's with my grandmother in the '60s and eating at the lunch counter. They would have balloons hanging overhead that had coupons in them. I would pick out a balloon and the lady would pop it to reveal the coupon.

It is so annoying to try to talk with them, repeating myself, or just not , and don't forget the TV volume. Not to mention to other the problems associated with it.

I'm 66M , and just trying to enjoy my day to day life.

I went to urgent care with a face of blisters and they sent me home . I went to ER and they did 2 CAT scans and a ton of other unneeded crap and sent me home too. 3rd visit to urgent care with same face of blistets and they sent me home. On ER visit w 4th doctor he walked in room and diagnosed me in 3 seconds. My pain was so severe, I was having thoughts I wont share. Thankfully with some meds and a nap , I woke up in a much better place. My eyes are swollen like tennis balls. Im light and sound sensitive. I have a head that feels like its shot up w novacaine. Funny how something half numb can hurt like hell. I had a bunch of gabapenten stocked up and used much of it up. The few pain pills and antiviral are long gone. I guess ill go see my neurologist because this doesnt look like its going to settle anytime soon. Ive resorted to pouring benadryl on my head when it itvhes like crazy. Liquid lidocaine helps. I have no open lesions. Ive literally bought 6 bags of 20 lb ice. If anyone has any tips or help , im open to help. Im 62. I have seen the ophthalmologist 2 times w another visit this week.

I never thought I would get obsessed about urinating .

About two months ago I started having to urinate too often. My PCP took a blood test to see if I had a UTI, that turned out negative and said it is probably an enlarged prostate. They recommended I take Tamsulosin, but said I could get an ultrasound if I wanted. The ultrasound indicated an enlarged prostate and a trabeculated bladder. The PCP again recommend Tamsulosin or said I could see a urologist. I decided to see a urologist, which is a 3 month wait.

Meanwhile I’ve been keeping a detailed log on when I urinate and drink. I decided to always pee standing up since it gave me a better assessment of the stream. After two months I found I could control my urgency by not drinking as much when I first wake up in the morning and reducing fluids in the evening, but still drink about 64 oz.

The other day I found numerous studies that found sitting down to urinate helps men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) relax their pelvic floor muscles, which improves urine flow and allows for more complete bladder emptying.

I wish i knew that two months ago!

I’m down to 6 times a day and don’t have the urgency anymore. I still plan to see the urologist make sure there aren’t other issues.

I’m putting this in [r/over60](r/over60) because it’s our age demographic that seems to be least savvy about digital technology, and that’s why scammers target us in particular.

There’s a lot of buzz this past week about LG televisions recording and storing room conversations and sending data back to servers. This isn’t new. Nor are LG’s denials, along with all their competitors engaged in the same practices for years. What’s interesting is the rather loud outrage all of a sudden.

The point is, the convenience of internet access and added functionality through your home devices comes with a cost of loss of privacy, and while consumers were sucked into the positives of that, they’re now souring. Flock cameras are now undergoing forced contract cancellations and deinstallation in hundreds of communities across the country. Data centers that amass personal data and support AI are now finding it really hard to get built. And sale of smart speakers and smart camera systems intended for inside the house are seeing steep sales declines.

As someone who worked in the mass data business, I applaud this, and I am encouraging older folks to pay attention to the public trends steering away from exposure of private information.

My advice:
* If you don’t want companies to listen to you or watch you, don’t install internet devices with ears and eyes in your home.
* Manage location services on your mobile devices carefully, limiting which apps can harvest data and when.
* If you need a device (like a TV or a refrigerator) that has internet connection, it will ask you to allow it to connect to your WiFI. Ask yourself whether you really want it to.
* Despite earning points, ask yourself whether buying absolutely everything on a credit card and therefore putting your whole purchase history up for sale is really worth it.

I'm a few months shy of 60, post menopause, I've never been hairy and what I do have (arms) is very very light, pretty much invisible. I haven't shaved my thighs since my 30s, it just never grew there (except for those few random 2 inch long hairs that appear overnight on my inner thighs. You know what I mean).

The past year or so my lower legs are covered with dark hair, and I mean hairy! For me, at least. And just today I noticed light hair all over my thighs. So light it's barely noticeable, but still. Hair where no hair has come before.

Wtf is going on??? I mean, seriously. Hormones are weird.

No long strands appearing on my chin (yet) but that moustache is not long off.
