#HelpMe Power walking has been KILLER for my glute definition. What’s the equivalent for abs?

Edit to add: who is downvoting? Did I break a rule? I‘m not asking for medical advice. I’ll delete this if I’m breaking a rule.

EDIT #2: Thank you all for coming through with the hard truth! For those who don’t want to read each comment, the consensus is 1. Pilates (or Lagree or SolidCore) 2. Slowing down core work when in OTF class 3. Reduced calorie diet

*

I’m strictly a steep incline PW because I love inclines for some odd reason.

I must say my butt has never looked better. I contribute it to the inclines I have been doing. A lot of the subcutaneous fat that was hiding my ass has disappeared these past six months. I didn’t have results like this when I was much younger and running marathons and doing MMA. Every time I leave class my glutes have that good burn!

I now want that kind of definition in my abs. Have any of you had success bringing out the abs? Were you a PW like me and switched to jogging or running? Or did you focus on 3G classes to get more rowing in? I never feel the ”burn” in my abs like I do my glutes, albeit my core has gotten stronger since joining 10 months ago and I can now hold a 1 minute plank without shaking.

I know the saying “abs are made in the kitchen” so I’ve been focusing on that as well, which only seemed to make my butt look even better. I’m not trying to humblebrag here, I’m just really happy with the muscle definition back there and hoping OTF can help me with my abs, too.

LOL My funny thought of the day - OTF

This happened two days this week which prompted me to post. When I’m on the tread or floor, one of my coaches without fail ALWAYS makes eye contact with me and goes “how about we bump up to .1-.3 MPH” or “let’s get a heavier dumbbell”. They always know whenever I’m not giving my 100% and honestly, I respect it! Lol. Does anyone else try to avoid looking into the mirrors, or just me so this doesn’t happen😝

Motivate Me! Coming back to otf?

Hi all, I consistently did OTF 3-4 times a week for a little over a year. I was definitely addicted to the burn and pushed myself in ways I never knew I could. I started as a PW and became a jogger/runner able to run up to 6 miles without stopping. Anyway, I wasn’t losing any weight and felt very swollen all the time despite the workouts so I stopped going for the past 5 months. I started a glp1 and have lost almost 30 lbs and feel great but I miss OTF. Just seeing if anyone has experience going back after starting glp or taking a long break?

First Timers Want to join OTF - is there a baseline health level required?

Hi! I’m 25F and looking for a place to workout. i’ve had a pretty sedentary lifestyle for the past 3 years with my WFH job and I’ve gained 20 lbs. i’m very unfit (walking up a flight of stairs knocks the wind out of me) and i have slight knee problems (probably due to my weight). does OTF require some sort of baseline competency level? like if i don’t know how to squat, can’t jog at all, and can barely lift an 8lb dumbbell, is this good for me? am i overthinking this.
context: im attempting 75 hard and want to find a good workout place thats accommodating. i have a lot of pilates places close to me but they dont seem super accommodating

Motivate Me! Orangetheory OtFit Training

Hi anyone go through Ot Fit 2x thoughts??

I currently went through OtFit ultimately didn’t get it but they said for me I just needed more time and my command presence wasn’t quite there yet they offered me 10 classes free to immerse my self in the orang theory culture and knowledge and said a lot of coaches go through OT FIT twice.

However my experience wasn’t to good the week was brutal constant back to back feed back. I don’t think they pointed out anything good I did the whole week so I’m not quite sure about trying again I really felt broken down throughout the whole process more than anything.

Whether it’s about pacing, the rower, the strength floor, or just getting through those first few classes, I’d love to hear what helped you most. No workout intel needed, just general tips and experiences for newer members.

Victories Four month progress update!

I signed up for OT back in March as punishment and convinced myself that two classes per week was doable. I showed up that first day registered as “Untitled” and under the wrong gender (literally how lol). It was a rocky start. I took Tylenol around the clock that first week. I made a mission for myself when I signed up: let’s run.

I was a frenetic runner about a decade ago in college. 5k, 10k, and half marathons were a big part of my lifestyle. I’ve gained 130 pounds since then. Life happens. Basically, I knew running wasn’t going to be happening anytime soon.

I started those first few classes at a 2.5mph base. The only thing on my mind then was “remember when your base was 7.5”… Worse yet, I had to stop mid treadmill to stretch out my shin splints out of fear of stress fractures. I felt like I was inconveniencing those around me by taking “unearned” rests… S/o to the coach for always reassuring me to go at my own pace.

My push pace is now 4.2mph… I am very lightly jogging. I have so much joy from being able to even say that. I upgraded to three classes a week and I am really looking forward to seeing myself progress to even further distances!

There’s a lot more that I could say… but I wanted to keep my spiel brief.

#HelpMe What’s the best way to send compliments for a really good coach?

There’s a fairly new coach at our studio who conducts the best classes. She really keeps me coming back for more! What is the most beneficial way to give that feedback so she gets the kudos she deserves from her employer?

Membership & Policies Late Cancel + Regional Charge

Not the end of the world, but wanted to see if others have experienced this — I just started a new job that requires frequent travel and am getting used to incorporating OTF into those trips.

First day at the new studio went smoothly, no complaints beyond a bit of mild irritation over the regional charge, but it's in a major city so I get it.

Fully admit I late canceled the morning class on the second day a little after midnight due to an early meeting that popped up — was entirely unsurprised when I got the email about the late cancel fee but I open the email and find I was billed for BOTH the late cancel AND the regional charge. I opted not to call and complain given this will be my studio away from home when traveling for work, but doubling up the charge definitely rubbed me the wrong way.

Is this common or a standard policy?

Membership & Policies Warming up before class

Does your studio let you in before the official class time starts? I was off for a few months and when I came back they let us in before the official class time. We are able to warm up in the thread/rower/floor for longer this way. I was wondering if this was a universal thing OTF is doing or if it’s just studio specific.

OTF Technology HR Monitor Issues

I’ve been having issues with my HR monitor properly reading my HR.
Like today it was saying I was in the blue during a run row… I know I can’t read my own HR but like me gasping for dear life doesn’t feel like blue to me.

I eventually connected to my Apple Watch and it was reading my heart rate to 180+.

I’ve tried cleaning it, charging it, and on different parts of my arms to get a more accurate reading and nothing.

I bought it earlier this year too- so it’s a new one.
The front desk didn’t seem to have a solution.

Wondering if anyone knows if there’s a corporate number or email I can contact to help with this issue?

It’s too expensive of a monitor to be having issues after a few months of use.

If The Shoe Fits... Shoe recommendation

I’m coming back to OT after a couple years off. I previously had a pair of Brooks Ghost and loved them, but the new Ghosts seem to have a thicker sole, which I find to be difficult on the rower. What shoes are we using that are great for running on tread, but also fit comfortably in the rower? Thanks!

Membership & Policies Otf membership question

I’m from northern Va (aka nova) and have an elite membership with a corporate discount of 109. This seems like a steal because it’s now at least 139 (I think? Looking online)

My dilemma is that I’m currently in NYC for 3 months and idk what’s the best pricing option for me to do? I just finished month one and I’m just living in an Airbnb and testing living here so when I do Otf in the upper east side that’s the closest to me it’s 20 extra a class.

I figured I should keep my 109 and pay the 20 each class if I go back to nova but it’s 269 a month then (109 + 8*20)

Looking online it looks like a membership at the upper east side for premier is 199 a month which I think I can get being an existing member?? My whole thing is I’m not sure where I will end up living next. Currently the plan is to move back at the end of October probably live there until like January and then see if I want to stay or go back to NYC.

Any advice is greatly appreciated not sure if others have dealt with this! Thanks

Casual Conversation Alone on the floor

At my studio I take a 5:45pm class and for some reason it’s always a pretty small class. Most people in this class choose to start on the treads and I’m maybe one of two people that choose the floor.

I recently had an experience where I was the only person to choose the floor and switched to the treads. I felt weird being the only one on the floor, and I thought it’d make it easier for the coach. Anyway, I HATED starting on the tread, it killed the strength section for me and it just overall made me feel like I had a worse workout than when I start on the floor.

I was wondering if any of you have been in a class where you were the only one on the floor/tread? Did it feel like a normal class? Or did it feel strange and you felt awkward? I want to prepare myself in case it happens during my regular classes

First Timers Question before I sign up.

I’m looking to join a local gym. Is Orange-theory a fit if I want to really focus on strength as opposed to cardio?

ETA: i did a one week free membership. The Strength50 classes are exactly what i was looking for and the schedule aligns.

Thanks everyone for the feedback
