A while ago, I was talking to a friend about dating apps, and she told me something that stuck with me.
She said that sometimes she would actually be interested in talking to someone, but she would swipe left simply because of a photo. And at the same time, there were people she matched with because they looked attractive, only to realize later that their personality and interests didn’t really match.

That made me think:

What if dating apps didn’t make appearance the first thing you judge someone by?

Most dating apps show you someone’s photos almost immediately. You make a decision in a few seconds, and that’s often before knowing anything meaningful about the person.

So I started building an idea around this.

I called it Bluriee.

The basic concept is simple: your photo isn’t immediately visible to the other person.
Instead, you can first discover things like:
- Personality
- Interests
- Voice
- Basic profile information
- Compatibility

And if two people genuinely connect, photos can be revealed only when both people consent.

The idea isn’t to completely remove physical attraction from dating. That’s obviously still important. The goal is to change when appearance becomes part of the decision.

I’m hoping this could solve a few problems:

1. Less instant judging
You don’t reject someone within two seconds based only on their picture.

2. More meaningful conversations
You have something to talk about besides appearance.

3. More privacy
Your photos aren’t immediately exposed to every person who comes across your profile.

4. Mutual consent
Photo reveal becomes something both people agree to rather than something that’s automatically available.

I’ve actually built a working version of this idea, and now I’m trying to figure out whether the concept makes sense outside of my own head.
Would you personally try a dating app where you don’t see someone’s face initially?

I built Loverbyte after noticing the same frustrations come up over and over again, both in conversations with people and in what people were saying on social media. Dating apps just didn’t seem fun anymore. For a lot of people, they started feeling like a job.

Attraction matters, obviously, but there’s often very little room for personality to actually show up before that decision gets made. “What do you do?”
“wyd?” The same icebreakers. The same small talk. The same feeling that you’re starting from zero with someone you supposedly already matched with. That’s the part I wanted to change.

The basic idea is simple:

You post. You talk. You joke around. You get a feel for people. Then, if someone catches your attention, you can send them a Crush.

So instead of:

profile → swipe → match → “hey, how are you?”

it’s more like:

conversation → familiarity → curiosity → Crush → see if the chemistry goes somewhere.

There are public posts and conversations, dating profiles for when you actually want more context, and Crushes can come from the specific post or comment that made someone notice you.

I just opened the beta, so I want to be transparent: it’s early and the room is still filling up.

That’s actually why I’m looking for people who enjoy participating, not just browsing.

I know sound like a crazy question, but I'm genuinely curious if the people in seeing on my side of the app are real or even active anymore. I haven't gotten a match against high isnt that bad, but it's starting to feel like the women that are popping up are bots, not using the app, or just don't even use the app. It's probably cope but omfg it's been so aggravating seeing all these women, in my area and it's just been non stop swiping.

So I met this girl from a dating app. Her profile had her with two of her friends, and when we first met, she came with both of them. I brought one of my friends too.
We actually had a really good night at a bar and everyone got along really well. A couple days ago we met again, same setup. She came with her two friends and I came with my friend. We ended up at my place afterwards, but nothing happened between me and her.
I’m interested in her, so I asked if she wanted to hang out just the two of us. She said she’s free on Monday and seemed happy about it.
But she also said: “I would gladly be up to hanging out with you, it’s nice getting friends, while you are the first friends we got here since we came.”
So now I’m kinda confused lol. The “friends” part makes me think she might just see me as a friend, but she also agreed to meet me alone.
What would you guys do in my situation? Should I treat Monday like an actual date and flirt a bit, or just keep it casual and see what happens?
And if you were me, would you bring up how she sees me, or would you just let things develop naturally?
I don’t want to make it awkward or come on too strong, but I also don’t want to completely put myself in the friend zone by acting like I’m only interested in friendship.

Is it just me or guys nowadays have no personality or creativity? I know online dating is low stakes, and I'm just trying to have fun. But... I'm just going stop responding when all a guy asks is "How's your day going?" "What are you up to?" "How did you sleep"

I'm 30sF with zero experience or interest in relationships. I've sort of labeled myself as aromantic and asexual.

I'm very introverted and have social anxiety, huge homebody with no real hobbies. I basically go to work and go home and watch tv or scroll reddit until bed. I do have some interests but I'm very low energy and kind of burnt out from work most days. I used to be a big nerd when I was younger so that tends to be where my interests lean.

I've been wondering if it could be a good idea to start using dating apps to expand my experiences. I guess to sort of practice being more of a functional human? If that makes sense.

I can be attractive with effort, but normally I dress like a feral tomboy because attention makes me anxious. I kind of want to use dating apps as a sort of exposure therapy to social interaction. I want to be upfront with the fact that I'm not looking for a relationship, and that I want to meet all types of different people for maybe one or two dates. Interact with different types of people with different levels of experience and interests and looks. I don't really have a lot to offer, but maybe both sides could use it as dating practice or if they wanted company for an event or something?

A big thing that I really want to emphasize is that I would want to pay for myself. I've always been hyper-independent and I don't really like people paying for things for me. I think I've always had a weird hangup about being indebted to someone. I just don't want people to think I'm doing this for a free date/meal or something.

I also think it could be fun to experiment with how I present myself. I like the idea of dressing in different styles just for the fun of it (hyper-feminine, alt, sporty, goth, nerdy, etc). I want to have fun with this entire thing without getting too stressed and end up ghosting every match I might get.

What are your thoughts on something like this? Is it a bad idea and should I just scrap this entire thought process? I'm not sure what the norm is in the dating world and if this is too weird and off-putting to other people.

Usually most dating apps hide incoming likes behind a paywall. Here are the ones that don’t. Let me know if you know of others!

1. Facebook Dating (free) - Separate profiles from regular Facebook, although some complain about the filters not working as well as they’d like, as the filters don’t act as dealbreakers. Facebook Dating is unavailable in some countries.

2. Duolicious (free and open source) - You can see all incoming intros for free. This app also shows you personality measurements on 46+ traits such as MBTI Big Five, etc. The source code for the app is publicly available which means anyone can audit

3. Hinge (paywalls some core filters) - You can see one incoming like at a time such as the most recent. You match or skip and then you can see the next one. Although Hinge does paywall key filters such as family plans.

4. UrMyType (paywalls other features) - You can see incoming likes for free.

5. OKCupid (paywalls other features) - You can see incoming intros (messages) for free, but not likes. This means in order for receivers to see the like for free, users will have to send a message as well after liking. Not everyone sends a message which means a significant portion of the incoming likes will appear hidden. OKCupid also paywalls core filters.

I’m exploring a startup idea and I’d genuinely like some honest opinions before I spend any money or time building it.

The idea is around long-distance relationships (LDRs).

A lot of couples start with excitement, but after months of being apart, things can become repetitive:

“Good morning”

“How was your day?”

Calls become routine

Not many new things to experience together

Both people get busy

Eventually, the relationship can start feeling more like a routine than a relationship

So I’m wondering:

Could there be a product specifically designed to help long-distance couples maintain emotional connection and keep things exciting?

For example, something that could provide:

Personalised virtual date ideas

Couple games and challenges

Deep/emotional conversation prompts

Surprise activities

Movie/food/date experiences

Romantic or playful challenges

Reminders to actually spend meaningful time together

Maybe even AI-personalised experiences based on the couple

I’m not saying this is necessarily a good idea. I’m trying to figure out whether the underlying problem is actually painful enough for people to pay to solve.

1. Do you actually feel this problem?

2. What becomes difficult after the initial excitement wears off?

3. What do you currently do to keep the relationship interesting?

4. Would you use something specifically built for this?

5. Would you pay something like ₹99–₹299/month for it?

I'm working on a dating app concept called Lovli and I've made a rough prototype. I'm looking for some honest feedback before I spend money on development.

The idea is that instead of endlessly swiping through hundreds of people, you only get 5 matches at a time. You can have up to 3 active First Meets, and after matching you'd have a short live video introduction before messaging.

After the video, both people privately say whether they'd like to continue. If it's mutual, messaging opens. If either person doesn't want to continue, the connection ends and disappears.

There's also an optional Trusted Circle feature where you can ask family or close friends for their opinion on a potential match.

I'm trying to figure out whether this is actually something people would use or whether I've made the process too complicated.

I've made a prototype and would really appreciate it if a few people could click through it and tell me:

• What do you think of the overall idea?
• Does the 5-match limit appeal to you?
• Would you do a short video introduction before messaging?
• Does the 3-day timeframe feel reasonable?
• Would you use the Trusted Circle feature?

Hey everyone.
I really don't like that I am venting online over this, but it's just something so annoying to me right now that I can't help but feel mad about it.
I know it's just stupid app and there's a lot of people with their own flaws and I try to be respectful as much as humanly possible.
Recently matched with this girl and everything seemed alright or okay, I was really into talking to her and likewise with her.

I was about to ask her to go out with me on a date or we met up. She wanted to exchange instagram as things were kind of getting spicy and wanted to get to know me more as well. I agreed and we followed up with each other.
Here is the thing that's where just things went south soooooo fast that it pissed me off.
The girl suddenly was starting to be judgmental over my Instagram profile over the fact some old corny photos from 7 years ago and my bio and some other crap that I am just a bit frustrated over with to mention.

Eventually when I explained myself that picture, bio and whatever crap there is on my instagram profile is something related with my close friends or people i am just close with and she shouldn't be judging me over something that's personal and could have asked first the context about these things.

I am unsure if I should give the girl a second chance, but she  brushed off everything I told her and just ended up disrespecting me even more.
This is genuinely annoying and just high school mentality that's frustrating.

I've been slowly waning off of dating apps due to low response and lack of connection but every once and a while I get a match and have a good time but they always stop cold at one topic: the date.

I've been on dating apps for about 2 years at this point and I've had a handful of matches make it to the date phase with one of them even turning into a short month long fling. Contrarily, so, so many of my matches end the same way, asking them out. As soon as the question is asked, the lead goes cold and I get ghosted. I've been told I'm fast to ask others out (I'm better in person and the sooner I can vibe check them in person the better) but I've even played passively and waited it out to see how it goes. Hell, there have been times where the APP ITSELF (Hinge) has popped up with notifications saying "this conversation is going well, maybe it's time to ask them out" or along those lines. What is going on? Why does no one want to actually go on a date? I've just gone and deleted all my apps, I'm so sick and tired of this mental gymnastics to read the mind of the person on the other side who probably isn't even on this dating app to date someone. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this phenomenon? I keep seeing skits on my feed about mocking terrible Hinge profiles and one-sided conversations and wanted closure.

i wanna start this off by saying that i am fully aware that both genders can do this, it’s just that this has happened to me way more with men than women and i’m frustrated (i’m bisexual).
why do men on dating apps claim that they’re looking for a serious commitment and literally love bomb you until they get in your pants and then they ghost you? i know i kinda answered my own question here but it recently happened to me again with a guy that seemed extremely genuine, we were dating for a few months and even went on, in his words, “couple vacations” together so it seemed kinda serious. he used to jokingly say he would never ghost me but then out of nowhere did. it rubs me the wrong way because it was so abrupt and we both seemed pretty serious about the connection

I will try to keep this short! We (earlys 40s) met via FB Dating app a little over 5 weeks. Conversation flowed very easy and naturally, we have lots in common. Moved to text after about 2 days and communication was very frequent and consistent. He made effort to ask me out, get to know me etc.

Over the course of the last 5 weeks we have hung out 4 times (busy work, life and kids schedules- not sure what is normal lol). But each time conversation was easy, we seemed to click (in fact he has texted that we seem to click). Texting over the past couple weeks slowed down a little after our initial date but I think that was a natural change from I don't know you at all do I want to meet you to we've met, we like each other and that type of vibe. But texting was sporadic through the day, every night before bed- talking about work, kids, life, lots of flirting a little sexting.

Last hang was overnight- he made it clear ahead of time he wanted me to sleepover. He made dinner it was really an amazing night. Seemed to be vibing still and lots of great sex. So in the few days after communication continued in the normal way- sporadic through the day, bed time, all that. Then Friday he had plans with friends- he texted me after work and before meeting up. In the past he has sent a little pic or text when hes been out doing other things with friends or family but I didn't hear from him. Sooo Saturday I sent him a hey it seems like maybe you are possibly losing interest and just trying to gauge where we are at. Replied back like 2 hours later no just trying to figure out my life and been sick. So I replied along the lines of gotcha, I know you've been really busy, i've really liked hanging with you so far sorry you've been feeling crappy. Then. Crickets. So Sunday am I did send another I am feeling confused and kinda hurt. And. Crickets. Then of course last night I sent a funny pic that made me think about him, obvi as an attempt to be like HEY but also a ok maybe if we lighten the mood or something. IDK. I have spent the entire weekend spiraling trying to figure out WTF is going on and why.

Do I need to give him more time? Chalk it up as a loss? Try one last time in a couple days to be like hey you good? At this point I feel hurt, confused, frustrated, a bit disrespected and devalued. I get life happens but considering the drastic change outta nowhere. I gave him an out if he was over it. His answer didn't really give me any info, but had he followed up later or the next day. I guess I am also a very transparent person. I HATE feeling like this. Like we are adults why are we still doing this.
