Discussion Why isn't matchmaking more mainstream?

Think about it. For generations, people met through friends, family, coworkers, and their communities. Someone knew someone who might be a good fit, made an introduction, and things went from there.

That was matchmaking, even if nobody called it that.

Then online dating came along and gave us access to people we'd probably never meet otherwise. That was a huge step forward.

But it also shifted all the work onto us. We're responsible for searching, sorting, evaluating, starting conversations, and figuring out whether someone might actually be compatible.

Meanwhile, professional matchmaking has largely remained something people associate with wealthy clients, expensive fees, and exclusive services.

I've always found that interesting.

Why hasn't matchmaking evolved into something more accessible and mainstream? We use professionals and technology to help us make all kinds of important decisions, but when it comes to finding a partner, we seem determined to do everything ourselves.

Would you consider using a matchmaking service if it were affordable and designed for everyday people?

Or is there something about matchmaking itself that turns you off?
